    If its not responding to air fuel screw can mean to rich or lean. Which is weird since idle is 20 which isnt to much iff you have intake and exhaust mods. It is very sensitive so go in 1/8th turn increments.

    Hi mate, ive got a 96 xv250. ive rejetted, installed new intake manifold, new slash cut radius curve exhaust (ebay), pod filters... had it tuned for gutted stock exhaust mod. went fine ( little lag with throttle 1/2 to 3/4 open, with a little lag on top end speed) (but went to 110+ so easily) now that ive put the new exhaust on, its lagging with the throttle open past 1/4. ive tried playing round with the idle and air fuel screw mixture but cant get the power back. What should i do?

    Pilot not the prob as it will start idle and do 1/4 throttle. Did you drop tje needle? May need to, to richen the 1/4 to 3/4 section then as the final step leave the needle dropped and go up again on the main to 115 or the likes. Each bike/pipe combo different youll have to tune yours to your combo. Good luck

    Hey man, I'm just waiting on some new jets presently for my open pipes, my question is, if I change the stock jetting to a 115 main and 20 pilot do I need to adjust the needle too or is this more optional? My needle doesn't have notches in it too so it was suggest to me to use washers to shim it Also, I tried what you suggested in another question I asked you about changing the stock gearing to a 17 tooth front sprocket, took my bike for a quick hour ride to see how it feels (but it's winter and snowy here in Toronto) but haven't tried highway yet, the gearing feels nicer, not dramatically different but enough that I'm not shifting into second gear after 10 feet in a right turn, hopefully the weather warms up soon and I'll finally be able to get back out on the road. As always, thank you for this video series, you rock!

  • @iRidetas

    @iRidetas

    Mate tbo I would lift the needle with x2 shims as you spend most of your time in the middle from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle and it will prob run lean in that range if you dont! Cheers. 17t is nice change. City commute or very hilly terrain I'd prob stick to that!!

    @@iRidetas Awesome, good to know, I figured since the main is pulling in more fuel from the 115 it would make sense to have more space for it to flow through. Yeah I'm gonna give it a good ride for a month and see how it performs, I didn't really have any issues with the performance before hand but if I can drop the rpms down 800-1000 for highway rides that's plenty fine for the road trips I'm planning on doing this summer. Cheers man! Thanks again!

    So I put in 2 washers and changed the main jet to a 115, I was given the wrong pilot though...so 2 questions... 1. When putting the needle back together in the diaphragm, do I have to tighten the plastic flat head screw into the little spring all the way? When I do the needle doesn’t have any play, just wondering if that’s how it’s supposed to be cause I can’t remember from the last time I adjusted it. 2. Is it really necessary to change the pilot to a 20 or can I get by on the 17.5? I’m hoping I can find the right pilot but just wondering if I’m stuck for awhile will it cause any issues or best to change to a 20 pilot? As always, thanks so much!!

  • @iRidetas

    @iRidetas

    3 жыл бұрын

    1 - Yes correct tighten so no play. It's the float that goes up and down taking the needle with it. 2 - if it runs it should be ok, might want to play with the air fuel screw to compromise a bit. Pilot for first 1/4 throttle, start up etc. But it it's back firing or stuttering etc. May want to do it. I rode it around with open pipes and stock jetting and it went quite well but each bike different.

    @@iRidetas Yeah prior to the rejet with the new drag pipes (pretty much the same as the ones you put on in your later video but the ends line up on mine) I was having slight backfiring in the mid range 60km on deceleration when the engine was warm with baffles in but not constant, just the odd time with a quick acceleration and then release. Without the baffles though it was backfiring even just from revving the engine. I haven't tried running it with the main jet at 115 yet cause I figure If I have to open it up again for the pilot then don't want to drain the bowl again, figured I'd see what my options are first.

    Having an issue with backfiring out of the carb and when I give it any kind of throttle it will die out. I don’t have an intake boot on the top of the carb. Getting it Thursday. Was told by a shop to drop the key on the main jet down a notch (like you did), make sure the pilot jet is cleaned, and threat the idle air screw all the way in and then back it out 2.5 turns. What do you think I should do?

  • @iRidetas

    Back firing through the carb on throttle is usually to lean on the pilot. Which would be caused by no filter if I read that correctly you are running one! I wouldnt run the bike with it that lean.
