Buddy Rich Literally Playing the Theater!!!!!(Duel Drum Solo w/ Animal)

Ойын-сауық

This is a classic drum-off between the great Buddy Rich and Animal.
Buddy Rich's talents cause Animal's jaw to drop open, before he throws a drum at Buddy's head in a fit of rage.
This is one of the best Sesame Street sketches of all-time. Displayed are examples of "Rudiment Techniques" combined with great showmanship, passion and a love for creating sound.
Animal shows how overplaying can annoy the other musicians in the band (and the audience). The singer Rita Moreno, is not impressed with Animal's hilariously out-of-control playing during the song, "Fever." When an aggravated Rita tells Animal to chill, he decides to play in an even louder and out of control manner.
Attributes that Bands/Musicians Seek in a Drummer:
- A drummer with reliably consistant tempo
- A drummer who places more importance on the song than on drum solos
- A musician who places more importance on "feel" than on showing off technical ability
- Many professional drummers prefer to play simply and economically, even though they are fully capable of playing much more complex patterns.
- A band member who does NOT attempt to overpower the other musicians' parts with sheer volume
- An appropriately dynamic musician
- A musician who understands song structure
** Ringo Starr of "The Beatles" is a good example of an understated drummer who always played the drums so that they supported the song structure, which is how percussion should be included; everyone could catch a groove or a beat from the drummer but usually it starts with a progression or melody. As drummers, we should be able to write in unique accents and have the bassist and guitarist implement similar changes.
FEEL FREE TO POST YOUR, TOP 10 NEEDS FROM A DRUMMER AS WELL!!!! ;)

We didn’t have a ton of money growing up, but my parents managed to buy me a Ludwig Supraphonic for Christmas one year. I never thought much of the brand because I sort of assumed it wasn’t a “premium” brand. I remember seeing this episode of the Muppets and thinking, “holy s**t, I’m playing the same brand as Buddy Rich”.

Admirably - and in spite of being a famous celebrity himself - Animal was humble enough to accept defeat. That shows True character. ...But even if he Hadn't been so gracious? Hey - he's only human :)

Too bad they cut off the end. Animal was so upset, he picked up his bass drum and threw it at Buddy and it landed around his head. The final line was " Talk about a sore winner!" Classic.

Listen to The Jimi Hendrix Experience album “Axis: Bold As Love” or “Live at Monterrey” to hear Mitchell and Hendrix playing beautifully off of each other. The drum parts would be over the top in many other styles of music, but they mesh perfectly with Jimi’s improvisational guitar style and direction while soloing. Mitch Mitchell effectively combined improvisational jazz techniques with rock and blues guitar-oriented song structures but kept his personal flare and that was his signature sound

Mitch Mitchell of "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" is one of the great examples of a drummer who played more improvisational while still maintaining a flowing groove. His creative and dynamic jazz fusion style relied more on interplay between the guitar and drums than is typical of most music. This is not so much a style as a way to truly play the drums!!!!
