STORYLINE:
Thousands of Buddhists attended the lotus lantern festival in the South Korean capital on Saturday, held to mark Buddha's birthday.
The festivities began with a Buddhist service in the afternoon before colourful lanterns lit up the night sky as they were paraded through the streets Seoul.
"Today's festival is the occasion for us to light up the lanterns filled with Buddha's will to spread happiness to not only Buddhism followers but to everyone," said Sim Jae Ran, who attended the festivities.
"The festival is a joyful occasion because it is an opportunity to spread Buddha's mercy to not only Buddhism followers but also to everyone in the world."
