Buckling - Lesson 3

This video lesson describes buckling as a structural instability in which a structure experiences rapid sideways deformation, such as the crushing of a soda can. The structure loses stiffness and load bearing capacity to an extent. If it regains some of this capacity, the phenomenon is called local buckling. First of all thank you for your wonderful lecture. I have few doubts in buckling analysis, I did eigen buckling analysis of semi-elliptical dome under uniform external pressure. But, the buckling mode shapes are unrealistic. Because, the deformation occur in opposite to the load direction. Can u clarify it? Thank you
