This is my take on the song seeing BTS as performers. In their documentaries/vids you’ll see them perform on the verge of collapse and fainting. A lot of them have chronic injuries you’d only see in people twice their age, like muscle seizures, neck, knee and back pain etc… but you would never be able to tell once they’re onstage. So when they say “Bring the pain on” they literally mean it.
On this album they mentioned they wanted to be more raw and honest with their fans so while its nice being the biggest & most in-demand group in the world, there’s also the pressure and burden that comes along with it. A lot of singers succumb to it as you see with a lot of tragic stories in history. They even said they thought about disbanding at the height of their career (late 2018) but decided to stick together for their fans.
So when they say “find me and im gonna live with ya” they’re talking about making the choice to accept that weight, the love and the hate, the shadows, the pain, the literal blood, sweat and tears it takes to prove themselves on stage every day. p.s- even the 1st line “I can’t understand what people are saying” is blatantly honest because you will see these boys having to promote and network in a foreign country with a language that is not their 1st… on youtube you can see it makes for some funny times.. but I bet it’s confusing, disconcerting and scary for the most part. You got some deep thoughts though- very open-minded too. You're doing great

@@INF1NIT3SIN no problem, if you will want, you'll have a plenty of videos to which you will able to react and record it. just try not to fall into that rabbit hole too deep, if you have some work to do. because I found them 10 months ago and... ABOUT THAT CHOREOGRAPHY... Because BTS are a group of young geniuses, they like to work with other young geniuses. Did you notice the young woman front and center at the very beginning? She is 19 year-old Sienna Lalau, and she is the person who choreographed this performance. The other dancers are part of her award-winning hip hop crew The Lab, from Los Angeles. This is the THIRD performance she choreographed for BTS. At age 18 she created the prop choreography for 'Dionysus', one their most iconic stage productions ever. She also did choreo for J-Hope's solo song 'Chicken Noodle Soup'. You are totally correct about the theme of this song. In their new album series, this song comes after they learned to integrate the shadow that was still 'doing its own thang' in Black Swan, causing problems. The band they hired for the studio recording were the UCLA Bruins marching and jazz bands, and the one in the video is the Blue Devils bugle corps.

The Shadow is the internal force that holds us back while also supporting us. It's part of the theory of Dr Carl Jung, including Persona, Shadow and Ego. That's what this album and the previous album are about: recognizing what we are made of, reconciling what we are made of, what we present to the world and who we really are. Their lyrics are usually deep, or as RM (the team leader once described them) 'socially significant'. Black Swan, which you already watched, presents this theme as well. You might consider watching the three videos Persona, Shadow and Ego, with subtitles on.

Bighit, their label, was started with a goal and a purpose. They wanted to change the game in K-Pop, and they have succeeded. Ironically, changing the game meant returning to K-Pop's roots as socially progressive protest music. In the beginning there was Seo Tai-ji and Boys. They 'invented' K-Pop, and it was edgy, controversial and political. They were even banned for a minute. Then Kpop became a commodity - packaged, reproduced, mass marketed, formulated. A group called Bigbang came along and re-infused the scene with more innovation and edginess. They are still massively popular, despite losing a member to one of the biggest scandals in Korean entertainment history. Now BTS is subverting the paradigm. They're doing such a good job of bringing controversy and social issues back that Seo Tai-ji (pronounced "sah teh jee"), the founding father of K-pop, officially passed the torch to them during his 25th anniversary show. Imagine Metallica crowning a new metal king and letting them add a new guitar solo to 'Enter Sandman'. Seo Tai-ji brought BTS on stage and let them add verses to some of his most iconic songs. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqCDspOmiK_MaNI.html If you watch this clip of BTS with Seo Tai-ji performing 'Classroom Idea', you'll get a good idea of what K-Pop really is. BTS and Kpop as a whole are so much more than boy and girl groups. People who don't know what the song is about complained because the costumes appear to be "nazi cosplay". This KZreadr added translations, and explains how it is just the opposite. It's gonna blow your mind, and I think give you a deep appreciation for BTS on a level most of their American fans don't even have.

This is a fantastic explanation. Very educated. But the pronunciation of Seo Taiji is not necessarily that. As a linguistic major who understands how to read APA, the phonetic alphabet, the Korean alphabet is different but with the same concept. It's difficult for me to explain with simple letters. If you and everyone knew APA, it would be easy to show you and explain LOL. But sah and teh are not exactly correct pronunciations.

  • @JoobieLoobieSoobie

    @JoobieLoobieSoobie

Luscious Angel yes, you are correct. In reality there are no equivalents because English vowels and Korean vowels are sort of halfway between each other. The sound made by 어 isn’t “ah” or “oh” but in between them. This is also true with the consonants. For example the sound for letter ㄱ is sort of “in between” English k and g. That’s the best way I can describe it. But instead of writing another two paragraphs, I just offered an easy option. A brief side note about why Tai-ji is spelled in English with ‘ai’ and not “correctly” with ‘ae’. The Korean government changed the romanization rules in 2000. If a birth certificate/passport/etc displays a romanized spelling from the old system, it doesn't change. That’s why the name ‘태지’ isn’t spelled ‘Tae-ji’ and why ‘정국’ is spelled Jungkook instead of the “correct” ‘Jeong-kook’ in English. Taiji and Jungkook used to be the correct way to romanize their names. To prevent confusion with identity, romanized names are not allowed to be changed. People can still use the old system for names, but once they pick a Roman spelling, they have to keep it. So we will still see Young instead of Yeong sometimes, and Lee or Li instead even though the name is just I.

So this song is the lead single off their new album Map of the Soul 7 its already sold over 5 million physical albums over 4 million were pre ordered before we heard anything. This song and the album is about the struggle they went through to get to where they are now and how they have resolved the negatives and want to carry on pushing through and BTS have struggled to get where they are. I recommend you watch BTS from Nobodies to Legends either 1 or 2 will give you some idea of where they come from. Their stage outifts are expensive as Jimin tore his pants from dancing so hard in this Mv and apparently they cost around $5800 at that price they should hold together better lol. The guys themselves are very humble and dress just like you or me in real life except maybe better brand names. Some of them spend a bit more on clothes some less its all about dressing in their own style and they all have a different style. They unlike most K-pop artists write or have a hand in producing almost all their songs. Their company encouraged them from the start to tell their own stories about things that impact them and to begin with people didnt like it but the K- ARMY (their Korean fans) supported them and promoted them through social media etc so we in the west I-ARMY were able to find them and enjoy their music. The demographic of fans is amazing 25% are male 75% female. Of the 75% of that number the biggest group are the 40 to 49 yr olds and i fall into the smallest group the 50+ age group. Their message and deep lyrics are what attract most BTS fans as even when a song seems to be a love song it normally is about a deeper meaning . They promote self love and self acceptance and also try to help people with issues such as mental health and the pressure from school and studying etc.

I'm sorry, but this is driving me crazy. The Blue Devils is a Drum and Bugle Corp, not a marching band. Yes, they are headquartered in Concord, California, and yes, they march, but there is a huge difference between a marching band and a D&B Corps. A band using all sorts of instruments and is affiliated with a school/college. A D&B Corps uses only drums, brass instruments, and color guard components. And they are entertainers who actually tour. They have a "season" where the travel around and perform and compete. It's more like the NFL or NBA of marching than just a "band." Their members are sort of affiliated with UCLA in that many of them went to school there, but the Corps itself is a separate entity.

I’ve subscribed :) Btw, here’s one of my fave live performances from them if you wanted to check out a live show. Their music vids are cool but they shine when live too! This is their song Dionysus from the 2020 Golden Disk Awards: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n52YtdOYXZjPfKQ.html

13:34 that’s a really good question and one that BTS focuses on a lot, asks themselves a lot, and has written about a lot. I honestly can’t answer off the top of my head, but if you actually end up wanting to learn more about them and go down that path of a fan (which you don’t have to) you will probably see how they feel about it. Also for what you said at 16:38 there is a behind the scene video of them shooting this that will probably answer your question ;)

The reason this song has such a great meaning is because they HAVE been through it. They were treated like trash their whole careers and they know what that “pain” they keep mentioning is like. But they’ve overcome that. And it’s because they’ve overcome all the mistreatment and hate that they can now stand tall and say, “Bring it on. Bring the pain. It has no power over me anymore.” They now use it as fuel and as motivation to prove their haters wrong and to set an example for all their fans. They’ve shown that you can truly become stronger from hardships and suffering. Which is what they want to share with the world. This song is one of victory over a war they’ve already won. There’s no stopping them now.

I'm a huge marching band nerd so this song made me so happy. Basically the instruments in this song were recorded by the UCLA marching band which is so awesome to let college students work on such a big track that could possibly win them awards. Also the band in the video is the Blue Devils Drum Corp. Drum Corps are professional marching bands that you can join at 16 and compete all around the country until the championship which is held in my home state of Indiana. I did a program for 2 years in middle school where I got to perform the opening for the competition so to now see these worlds mix and bringing awareness to Drum Corps is so amazing.

Their music, especially this Era of Map of The Soul is based off Carl Jung’s Theory of the Map of The Soul. Our constant struggle between our Ego, Shadow, and Persona (I also think Id is included but I haven’t gotten that far into my psychology yet). You mention that (with any artist) there will be a time they struggle to “live in both worlds” that one will have to face a status quo about who they should be. I know you’ve reacted to their crash course, I’m kinda just going bid by vid lol, RM the leader who speaks English the most fluently, had a stage name with the initials RM, and during his time with BTS he changed his stage name to represent “Real Me” and said that he is a person who will ask this question “who am I?” And his life goal is to find this answer. To do this he strives for individuation which by Jungian analysis is in simple bringing together all your experiences on all levels to recognize yourself. To truly know yourself. Sorry for the long paragraph haha Some of this stuff doesn’t get covered in explanation videos. I just think it’s cool how three years ago in psych 101 I could’ve cared less about this subject that was covered so briefly by the teacher but after watching and listening and learning with BTS I have a newfound appreciation for this. Because we , ARMY and BTS are learning together, from each other. Like you said we feed off each other and it’s a great feeling to meet like minded individuals aRMY be that symbiotic relationship yooooo xD

(my thoughts) the shadow they are talking about is more their own struggles, fears maybe deficits they see in themselves (others probably already told you that the album is inspired by Jung's psychology and so the Shadow is symbol for these things), they are not blaming anyone but saying they can't run away from these things (it's them after all) so they'll go and explore these "bad" things and come out more mature/understanding

Unlike some other kpop groups, BTS definitely has more freedom to creativity, producing, writing, composing than most kpop groups do. I’m not saying other groups don’t do the same but their freedom to do those aren’t the same compared to BTS. Most of the members have participated in producing, writing or composing, notably the rappers (rap line) of BTS. While they do have in house producers at their label, much of their writing and producing gets put into the music!

I’m 44 and have never stanned a group before but the music, the message, the guys themselves just completely drew me in. Have fun with it and be truthful with how you feel. If you don’t like something, we don’t get mad if there’s a reason. Others have reacted and decided before hand they won’t like it and it was very obvious during their video. It’s aggravating because it’s closed minded and one thing you will learn about the guys is that they are an inclusive bunch of guys so close mindedness goes against what they stand for. Good luck and looking forward to watching your next reaction.

BTS have been through hell and back together. I suggest watching BTS:From Nobodies to Legends 2019 version. They were treated horribly by the K-pop industry and by other K-pop fans (who treated ARMYs, the BTS fandom horribly too), just because they were poor and from a small, unknown label. Now, BTS is seen more as its own genre rather than K-pop, because while they do K-pop, they have a unique sound and have experimented with so many genres and styles that simply cannot be categorized into just K-pop. Plus, BTS' lyricism and storyline took a path pretty much unknown in K-pop. When they sing about bringing the pain on, they're saying they don't care about what they have to face anymore. It's been 7 years of struggling and they can take it now. They accept all the troubles that arise because they've got people who love them, and a job they love. They're calling pain to find them so they can bleed, and rise up further, as they've always done.

Finally, a good use for drones. Their agency, producers, camera guys, etc. blow my mind every time. The sound engineers, background vocals, instruments (including marching band) were by UCLA Music Dept and it's director. I may have some of that mixed up, but there is a commentary, more like a short documentary, about the their working with BTS. The choreographer is 19 years old (middle position, opening scene). How do they find all this talent? Why aren't I 17 and agile?

"ON," according to the group, is a reflection of the group's 2013 single, "N.O, they used marching band and some talented amazing dancers from LA LAB'S. Jimin, Jungkook, and Jin talk about living with both their past selves and their current selves. While they might still have reservations about the future, likely due to the fact that anything can change overnight, they still are determined to fight for their success and put everything on the line. "Having woken from sleep and opened my eyes, I wonder where "here" is / Perhaps Seoul, or New York or Paris / Having gotten up, my body sways." While BTS are now in their 20s and no longer necessarily feeling the weight of academic pressure or that of the adults in charge on their shoulders, they describe a foe that, in many ways, is much more threatening: themselves. In these first lines of "ON," the group acknowledges being wrapped up in the glamour of waking up "in Seoul, or New York or Paris," and that with every leap they take to rise higher in recognition, the demons follow ("When I lift one foot, the shadow grows one step larger"). Fans might recall a poem Suga wrote in a 2018 episode of the band's reality series, Run BTS!, that reads: "It is true that the more light that burns upon us, the more shadows appear."

I heard a really good impression on this "find me and Im going to bleed with you".... If you want to be with me find me and Im going to bleed with you (fight together with you) or if you don't like me "find me and I'm going to bleed with you" If you don't like me find me and will bleed together, "because you know I'm a fighter." IF you listen to their entire album "7" you will see that each of them has learned to live with both the BS and with having their outward appearance that they have to hold up before everyone. Also be aware that both Suga and RM are producing the sound and also writing the lyrics along with others. Man I want to finish and then you say something and I have to answer they were in LA river dam.

13:15 their 2 recent albums (map of the soul: persona & 7) cover that topic thoroughly. the song Persona is about the image that they are trying to uphold and how to know who you are within that. Shadow is about the darkness that they feel they have to hide behind the image, but not letting it overcome you (this also relates to the Black Swan music video). Ego and ON are about embracing both sides ("I throw myself into both worlds"), and being themselves as well as maintaining their image, but also making their image match who they really are.

I already have been dancing (hip hop, ballet, modern) for about 10 years before I found BTS and it's really fun to learn their choreos, especially in this time of isolation :)

Actually BTS is one of the Kpop or even any boy band to produce their songs and write lyrics. The music and lyrics them self resemble BTS in some way so they are not only up beat songs but also many hardcore hiphop, R&B, ballad... The more you get in to them, the more variety you get.

Thank you for being polite as most people aren't. It's okay if there are things you don't like. Don't be afraid to voice it out. It's fine as long as it's just an opinion. Thank you for checking out BTS 💜💜💜💜

Usually when I watch their videos for the first time I watch the first time without subtitles and the second time I only read the subs

Baby Army on the way. It's obvious you have stumbled into BTS and it's so fun to watch. There are many talented and hardworking groups but BTS stands out for many, many reasons. Have fun exploring. P.S., don't feel bad about your preconceived boyband notions. That's what makes you and many others shocked when you find out more about them.
