71 year old BTS Army here. This song is based on a quote from the late great choreographer Martha Graham. "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." It is about an artist eventually losing their passion and/or the difficult forced retirement of a career dancer. Thank you for your reaction!! 💜

You didn't watch the end had you played it out you would have seen that the Shadow is defeated and fall down to nothing. The song is about their real fear of losing their passion for their art eg Song writing, composing, producing, rapping, Singing, Dancing even just going up on stage. This was their real fear at one point due to being exhausted physically and mentally. However they overcame it as they were able to take a couple of weeks off. The 'Shadow' is part of Jungian Psychology along with 'Persona and Ego' Shadow being the part of the mind where we hid are darkest and thoughts, feelings fears from other that plague us. The 'Shadow' (their fears) were conquered thankfully and they continued to go from strength to strength.

Yes: I too was going to point out that with Every BTS MV you MUST watch to the end, because there is always something more. In addition I do sometimes wonder whether those reactors who fail to watch through to the end are entirely sincere in their practices of reacting to BTS. Jury is out here with this gentleman, who seems OK, but I truly encourage him to watch the whole complete offering from BTS, because BTS always fill every moment with meaning...

Hmmmm. The shadow isn’t defeated, it’s accepted as an inevitable part of their humanity. Jung writes about the reconciliation between Persona and Shadow through the Ego. It’s an important distinction and something they’ve been returning to ever since B,S &T. Without the shadow there is no creativity, only the mask.

With "Black Swan," BTS divulge their most harrowing shadow yet, one that any person who lives for making art faces: losing the passion for creating. "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." Martha Graham. This quote is at the root of the sentiments inlaid in "Black Swan." Much like a dancer feels purposeless when they can no longer express themselves through dance, BTS contends that the day that music no longer fills them with the same passionate fire as before, or even if there came a day when they stopped creating music - what they feel is their life's purpose - it would feel like death. RM sings, "If this can no longer resonate / No longer make my heart vibrate / Then this may be how I die my first death." Once again, BTS affirm that despite their countless record-breaking accolades, the wealth they've amassed, and their ever-increasing fame, they are artists. What means most to them is the art - music, visuals, dances - that they create. 💜

so glad you are enjoying the journey. They touch so many peoples lives in so many ways in addition to their music. They honestly are 7 of the most humble, generous, kind individuals behind all this amazing talent.

You are so right about their music videos being mini movies. I can see you’ve reacted to On Kinetic Manifesto film. BTS have a ton of great videos with my all time faves, PURELY FROM A FILM MAKING POINT OF VIEW, being Daechwita, Haegeum and Love Wins All - the first 2 are solo Suga (he goes by August D as a soloist) and the last is actually another Korean artist IU - but BTS V acts in the MV so I’m including it in my list. There’s no loss to you, IU is a beautiful singer.

"My heart no longer accelerates when I hear the music play, It's trying to stop, it's like time has stopped, oh This would be my first death, which I was always afraid of.” Nesse trecho a seguir: "Deeper Yes, I think I'm going deeper I keep losing focus No, let me go Let my own feet guide me I will dive into myself In my deepest interior”...aqui o BTS nos mostra que é necessário ficar vulnerável, estar disposto a mergulhar para acessar e trabalhar em seu autoconhecimento.

If you like this, and are interested in a song that looks starkly at the ways we lie to ourselves before snapping out of it, maybe check out the video for Fake Love. It's considered a BTS ultimate classic and is an iconic song with choreo that newer groups study for the sake of passionate performance.

I am enjoying your reactions but please pause at the end as just when you think the video is over, it's not. Many BTS songs have deep meanings & sadly, you missed the end of this one. Some of their videos also connect to each other, so please always pause at the end, & always have subtitles turned on. Thank you.
