I'm so excited for this album! I think it will be very surprising for a new reactor to dive into when he's only watched the upbeat pop singles so far... I'm always interested to see people's journey as they get past the surface and start taking steps down the rabbit hole.

Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance are the 3 songs they did in english to cheer people up during covid. Their back catalogue is so diverse with rap and vocals and many different genres, you can really go down the rabbit hole. Songs I would suggest to show their diversity are Mic Drop, DNA, Idol, Fire, Dope, Run, Dionysus, Airplane pt 2, Born Singer, Fake Love, Save Me, Blood Sweat & Tears, On Kinetic Manifesto, Not Today. Just to name a few. There are also the rap line songs like the Cypher series, Outro series, Ugh, Baepsae. There are also the vocal line songs like House of Cards, Dimple. There are so many more, but I don't want to overwhelm you with long lists. Definitely watch some of their lives also, maybe start with: Proof Live, Festa 2021, MMA 2018, MMA 2019 Taylor Marie and XCeleste have produced excellent videos giving you more information on the group themselves and the 7 members individually.

Two songs that BTS wrote for Army and can be used as therapy are Magic Shop live and Zero O'Clock live. They are two of my favorites. Be sure to turn on captions.

It’s lovely you’re appreciating BTS so much just from their music videos. This will sound like a fan’s boast but BTS are one of those rare acts that are even better live. To this point you’ve only seen one instance - although I see another one upcoming in my feed so you might have realised this for yourself too. Before BTS, I was used to, and quite accepting of artists lip syncing. It became the norm, especially during choreography heavy routines. But since BTS can do live singing & dancing to an incredibly high standard it’s set a new benchmark for me.

Hi! Thank you for your little personal philosophy summary at the head of this reaction: it sounds as if you will fit in here very well - so, welcome. I do want to say something more, though. This, along with the other two pandemic songs in English, is one of my least favourite of their songs. In fact when they were released, I felt physically sick. BUT they were made fr one reason only - to offer fun for people all round the world who were going through hell, and for that reason they are simple and deliberately happy songs, no deeper meanings, no subtext etc, none of the philosophical or lyrical depth that BTS have always excelled at. They were consciously simple gifts to cheer people up. I have come to love them too, not just because f their gift, but also because they are made with the same incredible thought and production values that BTS bring to everything. But I find their Korean songs much more substantive. BTS are very Korean people - and I love that. They are also unusual Korean people, in their willingness to challenge authorities and push boundaries - hard in a Confucian culture, but something they have always done even when they started out as teenagers (who are expected to shut up and do as they are told!). They are also always consistently remaking themselves and yet manage to present a consistent message. Enjoy the ride!

You got physically ill over this song? Wow. Yes, BTS goes very deep any many songs are about loving yourself. Do you know how many people were cheered by these three songs and became ARMY because of them? I am one, I was sick with covid and when I saw these three I delved into the rest. I feel very, very sorry for you.

@@Maraaha55 I had the same experience as you. I know most people won't understand, but I've always had incredibly intense reactions to music so I get it. It does make life hard being this sensitive! But I was so involved in BTS' music, it was so deeply important to me in my healing, I'd been so active in helping them reach success, and to suddenly have song after song released which I could barely stand to listen to, and had nothing for me to enjoy, it really hurt. I'm glad those songs brought so many other people joy, and I've now come to accept their place in the story of BTS' career. I can see how it was a necessary choice for them at the time.... but I have to say.... in that 2022 Festa when Namjoon suddenly burst into tears and talked about how he felt they'd lost their way and lost their identity, and how they just couldn't go on like that... I was flooded with so much relief, I'd been waiting to hear that. It felt extremely honest, and extremely brave, and like we were back in reality again. I think it's obvious to any long-time fan that BTS have had a very strong message and musical ethos throughout their career, so seeing that be turned on its head was confusing. When just months prior they'd confirmed yet again "we will never make an album in English" and "it's so important to us to write our own authentic stories and make music with meaning"... and then Big Hit took on shareholders... and then they suddenly released multiple all-English tracks with empty lyrics written by American songwriters? It was so clear a compromise had been made, and one which went directly against their stated wishes. Looking back now, and having read some more recent interviews, I can see it all in context of the position they were in at the time - they knew they were on the precipice of truly enormous popularity, but they just couldn't break through, they were being actively blocked by the US industry. They also knew this opportunity was unprecedented for a Korean act (or an Asian act in general) and might never come again, so they were under massive amounts of pressure to make it as far as possible so that other artists might be able to follow behind them. After that Festa, and seeing how they've returned to form since then, and released some of their most personal and experimental work, I'm so reassured. Now I have that sense of security that this was a temporary strategic thing and they'll always return back to meaningful music, I won't even be worried if they feel the need to release a few more bland tracks I dislike here and there, because I trust we'll always be coming back to authenticity at the end of the day.
