the behavior that seems "flirty" to you is behavior that people unfamiliar with korean culture might misunderstand. culturally, korea views affection in a different way than some western cultures do. in korea, men are very open to physical affection which they don't view as being "flirty" or "gay" if they do it with friends unlike some western cultures often do. they are just showing familial/friendly affection that sometimes they don't realize they are showing and other times they are trying to annoy/tease each other. they all view each other as family and are as close as actual brothers can be. some members are more affectionate than others like jimin who very often shows affection because of his openly caring and playful personality and others who aren't as affectionate like suga who prefers to show affection in other ways and has a more serious personality.

Sooooo, for the future some questions that I heard need answering: You’re going to notice the members are more touchy than what a typical American friendship between guys are. It’s just in their culture physical interactions between males don’t have the same meaning as it does over here. Another thing is that in this video all these clips were from around the time of the BBMAs last year and BTS have been to America plenty of times before (I think for all the members except one, they all went to America for the first time for a variety show back in 2014) so just to keep that in mind. And Antonio you were pretty much right for the reason they are so popular. BTS make sure to engage with fans on a regular basis, from variety shows to live streams to just a simple twitter post, this constant interaction has kept ARMY hooked and always coming back for more~ PS; You guys noticed the repetition of interview questions 😂😂💜

Yoongi doesn't really bother answering questions if they are not about their music lol you can see the difference between a serious interview and a playful one by how he acts, if the interview is actually talking about their music he will probably talk a lot, if it's just random questions he tends to stay quiet and let the others answer.

They definitely interact with Army a lot! It ranges from their shows ( run Bts, bon voyage, comeback shows, etc), live-streams, documentaries, docu-series, Twitter, KZread (bangtan bombs, dance practices), mobile app games (superstar Bts, Bts world, BT21 game), LINE characters called BT21 and so much more. But tbh, them being genuine, the messages through their music and words, taking the time to share and actually caring about us is what makes us stay. The other things are bonuses and we are blessed to have them. Thanks for reacting!

BTS considers themselves as ARMY and they are our friends. They communicate with us and they troll us big time, they know everything we do as they are as fascinated with us as much as we are with them. This unique relationship between artist and fan is revolutionizing global music in many ways and is the first to make such an impact on the masses and a HUGE THANK YOU to Tim Berners-Lee who invented the 'Intergalactic Network'....... the World Wide Web!

Yea they actually have a variety show call Run!BTS that fans can watch for free on a Korean streaming service called V Live and they do missions, complete challenges, and do many other activities in which they can earn prizes or punishments. That’s why sometimes, some of the members are wearing silly outfits at the airport as a punishment. Also after every music video release, they release a dance practice video so fans can learn the dance moves from the mv. They also use V Live to talk to the fans live . They show us their personalities and a lot of artists in the US don’t do that. In the US, they only care about pushing out a project and making money. On BTS Twitter account they actually tweet personal stuff like what they are doing on vacation, not work stuff. They let BigHit deal with the work stuff. That’s why they feel like friends.

I think a big reason why they are so popular is because they are simply *kind* . Like in Korea, kpop idols are referred to as "idols" because they are supposed to be role models for the youth (good personality, humble, kind, hard-working, polite, etc). And although basically all idols in Korea are like this, Bts is different because they are unabashedly genuinely nice people. Like, if you were to imagine going to high-school with them, they wouldn't be the cool-but-unapproachable kids, but rather the kids who would be happy to lend you an eraser if you forgot yours (keep in mind this is taking into consideration their personalities off stage). And this is one of the big cultural differences between Korea (and other east-Asian countries) and the West (America, England, etc). Celebrities or idols have a different kind of impact and purpose in Asia. They aren't the people who are prolific providers of scandal and entertainment, but rather sources of comfort, laughter, and inspiration. So although their providing lots of content is a factor in their success, I think it is important to note that the content wouldn't be as enjoyable if they weren't the lovable, sunshine-radiating, good-hearted people they are.

10:15 - you hit the nail on the head. I got into Kpop in late 2011, and one of the things I noticed early on was: 1. How much more the idols are engaged in talk shows, variety shows, challenges and competitions, etc. compared to western performers, and 2. How much of the idols’ personality not only comes through, but how they are encouraged to show the quirky sides of themselves. BTS has taken it to a whole other level of course. (For those who would take issue with how I seem to have lumped BTS into Kpop-I know, I know... BTS is their own thing. I agree. I can’t dismiss it entirely, because they do have their origins in Kpop. One of the things that grabbed me from their debut was how unique they were in style and content, so they set themselves apart from the beginning. As they’ve grown they continue to set themselves apart. At the very least, they are most certainly redefining Kpop. And it’s 100% true that you will find no one else like them on either side of the ocean. And I’m really glad for that. They’re a music industry unicorn, and I love it. 💜

You know BTS has 3 rappers and they started with very hip-hop based music so they have many rap songs. You could start with Cypher 1, 2, 3, 4 which are their responses to their haters. They put 1 cypher in a album before so you could see their progress. Each rapper released their mix tapes so you could see their solos... RM : Joke, Do You... SUGA : Agust. D.... J-HOPE : Daydream... Of course there're more but you could start from them. If you want to see their early MVs, watch the ones in 1theK channel becuz they have captions. Press CC.

You said that you are a rapper, and Outro: Tear is my favorite song from the rap line (a song on a BTS album performed by just the rappers), and The Truth Untold is my favorite song from the vocal line (a song on a BTS album performed by just the vocalists). Paradise is an amazing song with all 7! It would be awesome if you guys could react to those three in a video at one point! Kendrick Lamars producer went to BTS's concert in LA and said that Outro: Tear was his favorite song of the set, and the lyrics to the three songs are all reaction worthy. Please give it a thought!

Its catch 22 BTS didnt do many variety shows in Korea as they were treated poorly, HOWEVER they posted alot of behind the scene's and their own shows like BTS Run & V live etc which were all very funny. But to get known overseas they had to promote via intervews & shows like radio disney & ellen etc. So their personality is the same as it would be if in korea but they have a free'er platform to show themselves on. But you are right western artists fail to connect with their fanbase, their fanbase can be loyal but only to a degree kpop fanbases are very different and completely loyal.....

That’s true. The interview at Grammy museum is what I love the most of all their interviews in America. It’s a very insightful interview where you able know deeper into their music, writing songs, production and more. I love it when an interviewer would ask them about their music and their thoughts about serious topics, their capabilities as artists.

of course it is edited like this, but also there is no need for them to act seriously as celebrities...they are just they are, and they don't consider themselves as celebrities. This video is full of inside jokes only army can understand. This touchy moments are only between true friends know each other a long time. They have no problem to praise someones (men) beauty, body proportion, behavior even if it is between man. They live together 24/7 from 2010, they are like brothers, family members, they really love each other, if you hug your best friend or brother it is not consider as a gay in Korea. If it look like flirting, they often teasing each other that way, but withour prejudice. This is just another cultural aspect, just be open minded.

Keep in mind that all these compilation videos are edited weirdly to showcase something that wasn’t as important or even noteworthy in the actual interview. Yeah, like everyone else explain, it’s a different culture and they are definitely more comfortable with “bromance” than the typical western culture but some of those parts (as you pointed out at the beginning of the video) are simply edited and cut weirdly. I honestly don’t suggest watching any of those compilation videos aside from the intro one you did at first. Majority aren’t worth it. If you want to see funny content, watch Run. That series is for the most part, hilarious and you can actually see what bangtan is like through your own view and not someone else’s. Just be careful about reacting to it. Like I said previously, Naver is pretty possessive and if they find you, might come for you.

BTS music videos are very deep and complex. To get all of what is going on here, you can watch Persona explained by a channel called DKDK Tv. They often do explanation videos for BTS to help get the context of what is going on. This song, this album and the next two albums following are inspired my the book Map of the Soul by Carl Jung. Let's just say a whole lot of psychology is involved.

Just a heads up that ur gonna get a lot of comments about how BTS aren't kpop; they are! They have said themselves that they are kpop and are proud of it. People who tell you they aren't are trying to distance BTS from the stereotypes that western people have towards asian musicians in general; that they are manufactured, plastic, company slaves, etc.... and while BTS Do have more creative freedom than the majority of kpop groups, trying to separate them from the rest to try and make liking them more palatable for westerners has really gross, mildly racist undertones. It is with good intentions, but its wrong. BTS is kpop! And thats okay lol!

You do know even in Korea Kpop isn't treated seriously? It's a joke, seen as fake and manufactured. BTS is practically the only group causing people to give kpop a second look.

@@sophiebybophie kpop is seen in korea the same way the western general public viewed our boybands like one direction,, its a pop group marketed towards primarily young adult women. Its gonna have the same stigmas that come along with that, no matter what culture its in. They're still kpop though, and other kpop groups still deserve respect as artists even if you dont follow or like them ! ~

bts said themselves that they dont want to label themselves and that they dont care what we call them bc bts is just bts. some will call them kpop while others wont but there are korean music critics and koreans who dont consider bts to be kpop. some act like the ppl who dont wanna call bts kpop is the equivalent of us saying bts arent korean when that is definitely not the case. armys have always been proud of the fact that bts are korean artists achieving great things but what armys dont like is seeing bts' huge accomplishments being labeled as kpop accomplishments instead of bts' own. bts success =/= kpop success.

It's okay not to call BTS KPOP because for one Kpop is not a genre of music. It is an Industry with certain practices that non of those apply to BTS. The only reason why people call them Kpop is because they started from there but you can just call them South Korean Boy Band. KPOP like I said has certain practices that don't fit BTS at all and that Kpop tag is boxing them in that small category/it's limiting. They are beyond Kpop whether you like it or not so we like to drop that tag and just call them Worldwide Superstar BTS.
