That song is so much darker than it seems. Basically the first scene he is talking about how his shadow is hunting him but when it switches up to that red scene with people taking pics its basically his shadow telling him you aint ever gonna escape me.

Their lyrics are what makes bTS different from everyone else. They talk about the things no one wants to talk about bc its too difficult. Such a shame you didnt read the captions. There is a button on tbe video that play subtitles. They are so much more than just performers.

At the beginning he was talking about the shadow that comes with the light of fame, the bigger the light the bigger the shadow. After the switch up it was the shadow itself talking to him telling him “you are me and I am you” or to just accept that he’s there would be easier for him. He’s a genius.

How everyone is waiting for them to screw up, how they have stalkers and no privacy. How its lonely at the top. He wants to be the best but its not what hee expected.

ya i think it’s perfectly fine to not read the lyrics/understand the meaning and to just enjoy the song, but i wish they read the lyrics bc they thought they knew the meaning from the english lines which is usually the same but in this case it means pretty much the exact opposite. but it’s fine that they didn’t they don’t have to, good video anyway

the beginning of melody they used their old one from ( INTRO: ORUL82 ) because they mentioned before " back in time " after thy gain fame , the red door is art pieces from ( Anish Kapoor ) , and shadows is a referance from ( map of soul book ) ... etc , so he opening the new era with a music video full of social criticism, covering topics such as invasion of privacy and extremely deep lyrics.

Guys this song is allot more introspective than what you’ve perceived by Suga’s journey to the top. Suga meets his shadow one he gets there and comes to an understanding with his shadow that they are one as he grapples with the fear that comes with this fame and success. The final flow switch at the end is from his shadow’s perspective that’s why it’s so chaotic.

this song really fits with what yoongi said in burn the stage youtube red series: “i wanted to succeed and make music, but strangely i never wanted to be famous.” also on their 2018 anniversary he said he was going through troubles and even cried while taking a shower because he was afraid of their fame in a way because at any moment because of any mistake they are at risk of having everything fall apart. the song propels his mentality towards fame and its responsibility that is a shadow that threatens to devour him and causes him to lose himself. the mv also showcases things they go through like people breaking into their hotels or following them to their hotels and touching them and shoving their phones in their faces without care.

Thanks for reacting to Interlude_Shadow though there's actually more depth on its meaning. SUGA isn't telling anyone he's the best but rather talking about the anxiety of being at the top. That at the end of the day they get lonely, they feel alone and that he's scared of the fame but at the same time telling himself - It's what he wanted. SHADOW is the behind the scene, behind the spotlight. This is rather an emotional rap tbh. SUGA produced this song too! He's so consistent! Kudos to our Genius MinPD! 💜

I always enjoy your reactions. I had a pretty similar first reaction, it was genuinely fun and cool to watch this video. Although reading the lyrics it was a lot sadder and deeper later, it still was a really fun and dope video.

Yea the more famous bus becomes, the more lights on them. But the more light means the bigger the shadows, which symbolize the dark side of being famous. Yoongi doesn't want to fail but he also doesn't want to keep rising. At the beginning, when he says he wants to be king and all that, that's what he wanted at the beginning and growing up but now that he has those things, it's "lonely up here" at the top and "he's afraid."

I feel like ”Suga” is talking to the real himself ”Min Yoongi” and the strugle and balance between shining like Suga from BTS, or the rapper August D. and also the true himself, Min Yoongi. It’s like he want’s all that but still its not who he is...I don’t know, but this song has another message and its soooo much deeper than a ”ego” like ”I want this and that...” So people listen/read the lyrics one more time and you are going to feel different about this powerful and honest art message song💜🔥

To me, simply put, his persona is the one on the stage and his shadow is the one in the crowd. No one is paying attention to his shadow, the real one behind the scenes even though he's right there among them yelling how much he wants to be himself. Everyone has their attention on Suga, his Persona. Notice they're all also watching him through the lens of their cameras. They only see what they want to see, and the more they pay attention to Suga, the more Yoongi fades away or gets lost into the shadows. RM's intro Persona also said the same thing when he spoke about his name being R, the attention on RM is so much that Namjoon does not think people would care to know him. So, he accepts RM as his identity even though he knows Kim Namjoon wants to be heard as well.

this is why bts are worldwide legends! their uniqueness and versatility, really nobody does it like them

The shadow represents his truma and insecurities within himself. Yoongi as a person was rapping in the beginning talking about his dreams and what he wanted and how fame isnt what he expected but his persona SUGA came in at the end and starting rapping on the beat change. His persona SUGA wants all of that and more, he loves fame and money. He wasn't accepting that part of himself the part (SUGA) that is ambitious and wants more, he thought that part of him was a monster. This video is about accepting all the parts of yourself, shadow (truma), persona (suga) and self (yoongi) .

It's basically an internal battle between him and his *Shadow* . All the thing he wanted to be originally, he doesn't even want to be anymore. *In the beginning you wanna be all of this stuff, you wanna be rich, you wanna be at the top, and you want it to be all yours. You have this big dream about being the rock star or the rap star and you wonder how far you'll go but when you finally get there you notice that this Shadow follows you everywhere you go. Getting bigger and bigger, so much, that you become afraid to fly higher and then start to realize how lonely it is. People say that there's a splendor to being in the bright lights but your growing Shadow swallows and consumes you and become a monster. You keep going higher making you lose balance and focus within yourself and as you rise higher, you start to hate it and when you get high enough, your Shadow grows in that star light and you start to tend to hate the spot light and don't want to drop but you also don't want to go higher, you just want to be you. You and your shadow will always be one body, although, you'll clash sometimes but you can never break it off, wherever you are, it's you. You are it, and now you know.*

Suga means ' shooting guard ' he took the first syllables of the two word and made his stage name
