Harvard Law Review quoted one of the lyrics of Baepsae in their publication. It has a deeper societal meaning than the vibes of the song gives off. The live is a must too!🙂

6:22 Baepsae is the name of a type of bird that’s called ‘crow-tit,’ or a ‘parrotbill.’ So essentially, there's an idiom in Korean that refers to the ‘baepsae’ attempting to walk like a stork but then breaking its legs as it’s legs are shorter than that of a stork. It represents that the baepsae, while attempting to be like the stork, only ruins itself while trying to imitate something/someone better. Simpler words: it’s an idiom used for someone "trying hard" to achieve something or be better than someone else.

Response to your simpler words: more along the lines of trying to be someone that you aren't, or you should know your place/not try to rise above your station(status) in life(said from the POV of the so-called "storks"). It's the idea of the unequality that is built in making the attempt to be equal ridiculous/impossible Edit... But there's plenty of room for interpretation, depending on your POV

When I heard this song I was feeling like a boss. When I watched it live, I died from the hip thrusts... but after watching 'Baepsae explained by a Korean by DKDK TV,' I just broke down and cried because I can relate. The pressure in my country to succeed is so suffocating and everyone blames you for failing when the world didn't even give you an opportunity to try. When you don't make it they keep saying try harder, try harder put more effort. I did try harder. I lost over 20kg just because of studying. I became literally addicted to books and I even got the highest in maths and ICT in my whole country in the national exam, but unless you have connections to people in power, you just rot in your house with your straight *As

as much as i love this song and respect its message ~ to this day I still believe the whole song revolves around Jhope's hips .. and Suga agrees with me so IT IS TRUE Jhope's beabsae compilation is EVERYTHING

Rather than being about their experiences in the rap industry, this song is about their generation and how the youth in South Korea are being taken advantage of and pushed into jobs and internships that pay in “experience” rather than a livable wage. It also criticizes the school system and environment as well as irresponsible and abusive teachers. The student suicide rate in South Korea is very high. Edit: there’s a Korean proverb that says, “A crow-tit (baepsae) will break its legs trying to walk like a stork.” A crow-tit is a type of small, fluffy bird. Basically, the proverb is saying, “Stop trying, you’ll never be as successful as those above you.” If you’ve seen the movie Parasite, that metaphor could be applied. The main, poorer family are “baepsaes”-they try to be something they’re not, to elevate their social standing to be like the “storks”, the rich family. BTS is essentially saying that back when they wrote the song, people were telling them to stop trying because they would never get anywhere and never measure up to any of the Big 3 entertainment company groups. It also applies to students in South Korea who try to elevate their social and financial standing but cannot afford the means to do so, similarly illustrated in the Korean show School 2017, which also criticizes the school system in Korea-children from rich families can afford to take after-school study classes whilst poorer students have to work part-time jobs or can’t afford those cram classes.

hey! so just a quick explanation: as the army says, baepsae is literally the phrase "okay boomer" as a song. the bird baepsae, has short legs, while storks have long legs. suga's part refers to a saying in korea that a baepsae will split it's legs if it tries to keep up with a stork. the song is about how millenials as a generation are facing more difficulties than the privileged boomers (since there was an economic boom in korea when the boomers were young), and hence shouldn't be compared with the older generations by the media, employers and the older people, because the millenials are trying their best. :]

This is one of my favorites, but watching the live version is even better!

there's many interpretations to this song. it could be about those born with a golden spoon compared to one without or about the older generation constantly looking down on the new generation. You should check out doolsetbangtan's lyrics, they come with explanation for some korean words which we might miss out as I-armys once translated.

The dance practice is so funny, you have to watch it. Suga lost a rock, paper, scissors game so does something hilarious on top of their usual fun. This is the song I use to get me going in the morning. It just makes me smile. Live performance is 🔥 too. As always, your reactions are a pleasure to watch, great start to my day here in the 🇬🇧

Looks like you get to check out another level to the lyrics! Explanation videos will talk about how the lyrics are not so much talking to haters, but more so a commentary on the pressures that have been put on the youth of today.

Crow-tits (baepsae) are birds with short legs, while storks have very long legs. Suga is addressing privilege, he's saying I was born a crow-tit(with short legs) and you were born a stork. My legs are shorter, how am I supposed to keep up? The storks don't have to work hard to reach their goals thanks to their long legs, but then they tell the crow-tits that they just need to try harder. This also references a Korean proverb "If a crow tit walks like a stork, it will break its legs." Because of this crow-tit is also a reference to someone who is a try-hard; someone who tries to walk like a stork even though they don't have the legs for it.

Bapsae is JHope's jam... He goes HAM!!! The boys go HARD on the live performance vocals & choreography for Bapsae... Causing nosebleeds still in 2021!! 😏💜

Baepsae will always be special to me. I remember my friend showing the live performance to me and I didn't know their names or faces yet. I've listened to only Mic Drop till then and loved that song. So I came back home and listened to Baepsae and watched the dance practice. I immediately was hooked onto the song due to the beat and the message and the dance practice was a cherry on top.
