FYI - the DMT-6x2 is aprs RX only. Get the pro for Rx & Tx. Also, the prices for the 6x2’s are the normal everyday prices. They were both $200 and $300 a few months back.

Outstanding review! Kinda surprised too about actual power output being much lower than advertised!

Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. Power discrepancies seem to be one of the primary issues with many chinese radios. Other than the power issue, it is a great radio! Hope all is well out your way!

Great review. What do you recommend for a better antenna? Will the normal analog (Nagoya, Signal Stick, Abbree, Cobra/Diamond) antennas work great, or is there a special type antenna needed?

Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. Personally I am a fan of both Diamond and Signal Stick. No special antenna is needed for DMR.

I'm new to the world of handheld radio so forgive me for the dumb question. But if i were to keep the radio in my pocket, is there any chance of pressing a button by accident or maybe even broadcasting without knowing? How does it work?

Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. It is possible to transmit when a radio is kept in a pocket. Due to the nature of a pocket it could accidentally press the Push To Talk button on the side. the buttons on the front of the radio could also be pressed and cause issues. I have all of my radios set up so they stop transmitting after 2 minutes if the push to talk button is accidentally pressed

You are not troubled by the lower than advertised power output? Maybe all handhelds are off.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. I forgot to make mention of that in the end. I am not in any way thrilled about it. 2 meters on Turbo was the only shinning part of the power test.

Those measurements were taken at the very bottom of the scale of a meter that has an accuracy spec of +/- 5% (which for an MFJ is probably more like +/- 10%). I would take these results with a HUGE grain of salt.

lol you are actually very intelligent in thinking this way! I wish I had that level of forethought as I try and forget my 2 boafengs and 1 quansheng

@@user-nw9cy4pk9k awww, don't be that way. I currently own an Icom ID-51 and 52, Yaesu FT3DR, Anytone UV878, Ailunce HD-1 and a Wouxun UV9D Plus, and I'll soon have a Kenwood TH75 but there will always be a place in my heart for my 4 $20 dirty Boo-Foos, 2 of which I got even before I was licensed, just to listen on the air, see what was happening. And they'll be perfect to give to neighbors or friends when the zombie apocalypse finally happens. And I gotta say, my Quansheng UVK5 is probably THE most fun I've had with a radio, just messing around with all the custom firmware people are making. If it bricks, who cares ? Receive from 15 to 1300MHz ? PONG on an HT ?? A spectrum analyzer on an $18 handheld ? A lot of fun to be had.

Well, you're going to be buying multiple radios anyway. You'll need one for D-Star when you realize what a pain in the ass it can be to program a DMR radio (I highly recommend getting a premium account with Repeaterbook. If you have an account, you can export repeater databases to a csv file to import into your programming software), then don't forget Yaesu System Fusion for true plug 'n' play on a hotspot. And then, as well as your super-sexy radios, you'll also need a rugged 2m, 440 radio like the Retevis RA89 for hiking or doing outdoorsey stuff with, that you know can take a few bumps and knocks. You're never going to be a one radio guy (or gal).

Your MFJ watt meter really isn't suitable for accurate measurements...you're operating it at the very bottom edge of it's scale where it's probably nowhere near the +/- 5% accuracy spec. I just measured my own sample of the 6X2 PRO on a spectrum analyzer and got almost 8-watts on 2M "TURBO" and 6.3 watts on 70 "TURBO". It's also shockingly clean.
