The Doobies are legit. I saw them all the way back in 1997 at an open air venue in Michigan and they blew my socks off, astounding. I was always a fan but live they were better than I could have believed. Just killed it.,

Thank you. I'll 2nd that. I had the good fortune to see him with NGR after "On the Boulevard" was released. Small club venue in Chicago. Between sets I got to talk to him and let him know I appreciated his bass playing as well as his vocals. He still has the voice after all these years. Amazing.

@@johnmccormick9991 That's awesome, he was my second concert ever (coincidentally, vince gill was my first) I still go to see John play pretty regularly, he plays in my area quite a bit. It's hard to believe that his stuff with NGR was in the mid 80s, it still sounds so fresh today.

I saw the Eagles in 1975 with Linda Ronstadt, Charlie Daniels Band, Seals and Crofts and the Michael Stanley Band. Saw them again in 1976 with Fleetwood Mac and Loggins and Messina, Joe Walsh was with them though he wasn't officially a member of the band. Rocky Mountain Way was phenomenal. Finally I saw them in 1979 with Jimmy Buffett. Each show highlighted just how superb they really were, I didn't mind hearing the songs like they were lifted straight off the albums. They truly were incredible.

I saw the Eagles in 2021 on their Hotel California tour. During the entire lockdown, that was the ONE concert I had my heart dead set on seeing when the concert scene reopened. They were fantastic! I'm in my 30s so I missed the classic Eagles period (the joke I tell people is that I'm the new kid in town), but I'm glad they're still playing. Making new memories and creating new fans. It's awesome.

Eagles usually sound perfect every concert. That’s a trademark to be near perfect each and every time! Unlike a lot of old bands that just don’t really have it anymore. And the Doobies had 2 great versions with and without Michael McDonald. Both are great so having Tom Johnston and Michael in the same concert is fantastic. And Patrick Fitzsimmons and rest of their band are always great! Nice combo of bands!

What an exceptional review! You are such a down to earth personable guy. I didn't expect to watch the whole thing, but it was kinda like hanging out with you - and I enjoyed it very much. 😄 I loved all of the details you went into and your descriptions of each section. I was surprised you didn't mention Tom Johnston's absence from the Doobie Brothers. I actually had to google why he wasn't there. He wrote and sang the majority of the hits back in the '70's. (I guess he has back problems.) Loved your snarky bit about Don Henley at 14:30 and a potential lawsuit. Funny, but true! LOL. Anyway... Thanks for making me smile this morning!! Oh... Love your double-neck Gibson too. I have a white one as well, but mine's an affordable knock-off! 😉 Have a great weekend!

I saw the Dooble Brothers 3 times back in the 70's during the height of their popularity I was really into their music. I always thought their biggest hit may have been "oh black water" "listen to the music" certainly bought them notoriety "take me in your arms" was also a hit. My favorite Dooble Brothers album was "Stampede" Patrick Simmons song writing always appealed to me, Neal's Fandango and I cheat the hangman are really good songs. There are 2 short guitar instrumentals on the album that stand out to me not certain who played them it may have been Jeff "Skunk" Baxter? Michael McDonald of course took them in another direction.

also it warms my heart to see deacon up there. hes pretty lowkey in terms of social media status but whenever a legend dies, having their kinn take the torch feels like the best move. Like at the concert for George Harrison, seeing all the guests give Dhani a big hug just makes me so happy, even paul mc looking at him in the middle of a tune etc just makes it all so real. the similarities in their style without trying just seems to be the perfect thing for the moment, as though no one else could emulate it even if they tried.

Regarding guitar techs and numerous guitars in play at a concert: first time I saw Cheap Trick (1976), they were the lead band for KISS and Rick Nielson had over 20 guitars on stage to start the show. Looked very impressive to a kid like me. And.... he didn't play a single one - just played his one or two main guitars. The ones on stage were never touched. I thought it was hilarious.

I saw them in Seattle a couple years ago. Same thing, friend had an extra ticket. I'm not a huge Eagles fan but they sounded note for note perfect. It was almost the exact same experience you had (same lineup, I think) but they played Hotel California in its entirity, then they played all their hits just one after another. The one word that has lived with me when thinking back to it is "quality." Just high levels of quality.

I first saw the Eagles in 1976 right after Hotel California first came out. My ticket was $8.00. Next time was in college on The Long Run tour in 1980, and I was actually working stage security for the show (my seat was actually ON the side of the stage). Next time was about 20 years ago. I'm a huge fan of Steuart Smith because as you alluded to, he gives a master class in guitar during the shows!!! He is phenomenal!! I got to see the Eagles again last year, and am going again now on this current tour after the first of the year. Steely Dan is supposed to open. Funny thing is that the Doobie Brothers have a concert here in Austin 4 days before the Eagles show. I saw the Doobies twice in the 70s, once in the 80s, and then most recently in 2019. They sound phenomenal live now. Anyway, thanks for posting your review. Interesting to hear someone's take on the show seeing them for the first time.

We saw the same concert last Tuesday 4th June 2024 in Manchester England. Same show with the Doobies then the Eagles. Fully agree with your review great performances from both bands. And like you I was convinced that it was Don Felder on guitar next to Joe. I was then intrigued that he did not appear with the others on the stage at the end. Equally he is not featured on any of the publicity photos etc. Now being in England I was totally unaware of Stuert Smith. Never heard of him. It was only after a lot of research that I found that he had been with the band for many years and he was a great guitarist in his own right. I can fully appreciate that he is not part of The Eagles corporation. But great shame that he was not allowed back on for the curtain calls nor was there any mention of him throughout the concert. Anyway the mystery was finally solved for me and it was not Don on stage. Great video and review man. 🙋‍♂️👏👏🇬🇧

Back in high school, second year, I was 13 and they asked if any of us wanted to work the Eagles concert selling drinks to patrons. Of course, as a guitar player at the time struggling my way through Hotel California I jumped at the chance. Since then all I could remember of the concert was when all the band members took up a guitar for "Life in the Fast Lane" (it was 30 years ago!) but your review has brought it all back. Thank you for your amazing descriptive skills for their music and attitude on stage! Funnily enough, Sheryl Crow was the support act and she kicked butt. Never did finish learning all the parts to Hotel California, thinking of it reminds me of my first guitar that I actually owned (rather than renting from my school), a massive acoustic Ibanez where the strings were almost a centimetre (I guess half an inch? Sorry, Australian) off the fretboard. When I finally for an electric though, my fingers flew! Cheers for the review and your channel! And for bringing back those memories, it was an amazing concert and I think the first one I'd ever been to at that point...

And the electric guitar for the rhythm hook in Life's been Good is something they kept from doing it live that way long ago.

Great review. Funny, too. If you've ever seen the Eagles documentary, I think it's pretty apparent there is no love lost between Henley and Felder. He and Frey referred to him coldly as Mr. Felder. Not a chance.

Joe plays whatever, he'll play a squire if it's handy. He doesn't risk anything valuable on stage.

I honestly had no idea The Eagles were in town. You missed a great concert 2 weeks ago at 1st Ave. I was hoping you were going to do a review of Mammoth. Wolfgang just killed it.

All my friends went to Mammoth and then I had to miss Liz Phair because it was on the same day as the Eagles concert. Crazy week.

Don Henley has nothing to do with any deletion of your video for copyright. Some other record company or social media will.

All these old bands still tour because their music is so great, I saw them all back in 70s. The greatest show I have ever seen still to this day is Springsteen and the E Street band in 1978. Nobody will ever compare to that 4 hours of passion and power.

Was Tom Johnston playing with the Doobie Brothers? I know he was absent from their own dates recently.

When I was younger, I thought bands should sound just like their albums. As I got older, that changed. Some songs lend themselves to that, and some songs don't. Sometimes it's cool to hear the band venture off the beaten path and really take advantage of what only a live setting can offer.

You need to check out New Grass Revival where you’ll see where bassist John Cowan came from. He’s very famous in Bluegrass circles.

I just saw them live in Lexington and loved it. I love the songs, but I’m not the biggest Eagles fan. It was actually Vince Gill who I wanted to see live the most, and he did not disappoint. I especially loved the spot where Joe and Vince jammed out. The Eagles are famously not a jam band, but you can’t have that many guitar heroes and just play note for note.

First off this is the first time I've watched anything pass 3 mins , so there you are. I saw the Doobies with Foreigner back in the in Melbourne Australia and they were awesome but they didn't have Michael with em. And I caught the Eagles with Don Felder as well. All I can say if you fellas get the opportunity to see great music please take as others across the pond don't as much.
