Brushless motors and Scale RC Boats

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I take a tried and true scale model boat which already works flawlessly and give it a heart transplant. Out goes the 545 motor and in with a brushless motor the size of the 20 cent coin. I have some exacting requirements for success, so take a look and I hope you find it helful.

I watched this video earlier this year and took your experience to power a 1970 cica Swedish lifeboat these brushless motors are so incredible I used a belt drive from Amazon 2.5:1 and it all went very well crazy sailing time and super seed control. Thanks for the push I needed.

Drawing up plans for a 46'' stern wheeler, looks like you've given me the power sys. Thank you Sir.

Ironic, I bought all the stuff to make an R/C stern wheeler myself last year around Christmas and as it does life cropped up. But I am dusting off the parts and starting work on it again. good luck!

Great video, just viewed it in November 2021. I like the idea of using the LiPo battery and lighter motor to save weight... this should make it easier to trim heavier ballast if needed deeper in the hull and help get the Center of Gravity lower in the hull where it will do the most good!

Great video. I’m building a moderate size scale tug and will use a 750kv BL motor. As low as I can find that fits. I used a high kv BL in a test run. That just does not matches the torque that I nees instead of high rpm.

Nice work. You will loose lots of efficiency with a gear reduction. The trick is to choose a very low KV motor and to run a lower voltage with a large lipo battery. Perhaps a 2S? As long as you have an esc that can run well at 2s, it is always good to get a slightly larger esc than you need. Nice conversion. If efficiency is not a problem then there is no need to change anything.

@@stpatr3k If you want very low speeds with high torque you might also consider a brushed motor but some of the crawler ESC's can be setup to run very low speeds these days.

@@izzzzzz6 I saw that, the one with the reduction gear. Anyway the 320kv is on its way, Im just gonna try that first if it doesn't work, I will try the brushed one. Thanks!

How do you adjust the ESC to be able to go forward and backwards? It comes with the ESC, or you had to do something? Great job! Tank you!

I used to sell those electronize speed controllers here in Melbourne and these can be adjusted for slow speed or faster depending on the use needed. To be honest, it all depends on the motor used, I use printer motors on my model boats and they use stuff all power and I can have them just very slowly turning over and have full control. These motors you are using do not like 6v gel cell batteries and I use them for power and ballast. Each to their own I guess.

No need for drive reduction with brushless motor. With more rpm, your creating more heat with causes a decrease in performance and productivity. Heat is the enemy of performance. Also with a good remote, you can set the maximum amount of drive speed you want and also have a cruise control as well. Would work good with your driving style.

Why anyone would recommend an outrunner motor for a boat is beyond me, one bit of water on it & you're motor is toast.

Outrunners are designed for torque. You can spin a large diameter propeller without the need of a reduction drive. Innrunners are high rpm motors that will need a reduction system, and in some cases cooling.
