Brushing Out My New 1940s Middy Haircut | Carolina Pinglo

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I got a classic 1940s middy haircut ! I got a Similar haircut almost two years ago, but I didn't have as much practice using rollers and doing wet sets. Since November of 2021 I've been exclusively rolling my hair in rollers and haven't looked back. I wanted my hair to be a bit shorter and for it to have that nice gradient on the sides. I still struggle with the bang piece but its still an improvement from when I first started with vintage hair.
Let me know what you guys think!
Dress: Vintage
Hairbrush: Denman
Hairspray: L'oreal Elnett volume extra strong hold (I used to use the classic blue one that was extra strong hold but they stopped selling it! I haven't been able to find it for months!)

Love the middy cut, looks great! BTW, in the 50s etc they achieved that volume on top by backcombing and hairspray underneath, so don't feel your hair is too flat! Sttaight after removing the rollers, just try back combing at the root of each curl to make it 'sit up' and set with a little spray. It will make a huge difference. Alternatively, when I'm feeling less severe, I kinda just use a bit of dry shampoo before the set and then after taking out the rollers/pins, turn my head upside down and floor or rather muss up the hair alot, before the finger combing out part before the brush out, it really creates a lot of volume

I think that as you said, when the side is pinned back the way you did for your face shape it looks very nice and 40s that way! (I also like how you stay positive and perseverant during the process of figuring things out!) If you still want more volume in your bang area, you could try rolling those rollers towards the back of your head instead of forward and downward. However, since in the 40s they often didn't have much volume there unless they did a pompadour or various rolls, I'd say you've already achieved an authentic look. Good work! ☺️ -Christie

Thank you !! I don't like my hair pulled away from my face but with the way I did it I actually quite like it! Yess thats how I do it! I roll them towards the back of my head for those 4 front pieces. I see a lot of photos of the 1940s don't have volume at the top, but I do see some that have that wave at the front but I guess thats more of a pin up look, thats more so what I meant.

@@CarePinglo Oh, if you already roll your top rollers backward but don't get much volume, I guess it depends a lot on hair type! I have thick hair, so when I do it, I get a definite and somewhat voluminous swirl, but not the exaggerated pinup kind, unless I tease it. Or maybe the hair in your bang section is a bit too long and the weight is pulling down the volume too much? That's one of the trickiest parts of vintage hairstyling, adapting techniques for your hair type. Thanks for helping us have fun with it!

omg you look lovely ! 🤍 would you consider filming a video on how you do your wet set ? all of the tutorials online feature foam rollers and since you use pillow / soft rollers (as i am planning to do this summer) i would love to know how you make them work so nicely :(

Good idea, and it would also be great to see how it looks when it's straight and describe how it's cut before rolling. A lot of people oddly skip this step in their tutorials, but the results depend a lot on haircut shape, hair type, hair length, and how many or how few layers! -Christie

Very nice! Elle Net is my favourite hairspray! For some strange reason it reminds me of the hairspray I used at my grandma’s in Scotland in the 90s.

I actually really liked your bangs before you pinned it, but of course whatever you prefer is great too! I highly recommend trying hair combs to pin back the sides as well. The shape they give is so perfectly 40s!

both ways look great on you! definitely play around with both looks and see what you prefer over time. i sometimes even pin my hair to make faux bangs with a sort of s-wave (if that even makes sense? lol) because my hair is usually flatter on top and i like the volume.
