    The only other video I’ve seen of the middy being done does not actually explain how to actually do it. All it had was the stylist doing the cut saying to read the diagram and if you aren’t able to read the diagram she implies you’re a bad stylist. I really appreciate a true tutorial since not everyone can understand how to do something just by looking at a 70 year old image from a text book

    This was such a good tutorial. Ample patience, along with the diagrams and some vintage books on how to choose your style from the 1940s, I was able to give myself this haircut. It took a while and I had to use a spray bottle to rewet my hair, but it's a very forgiving process and turned out in VICTORY! Thank you so much for posting this, you're an absolute doll, thank you thank you!!

    These are so wonderful Michael. My hair isnt what it used to be and discovering I could do these vintage styles on a wig has opened up so much more options that I dont think my own, ancient, hair is up to these days. Also it leaves me the choice of so many colours because I dont want to start dying my natural hair which hasnt gone gray yet despite my advanced age lol! Powder pink here I come!

    Noo i’ve been trying to cut my hair for months now and every time I brush it out and get in front of the mirror it doesn’t seem to feel like it’s gonna work out at all I rewatch videos over and over I think it’s just an art form because you check in on us and you’re like oh see how that’s working out there and I’m like nope I don’t see it at all that’s not a horseshoe!! Ha ha I have a really great respect for the art form of cutting hair now.

    I realize this is a mannequin but why does a hairdresser not know that for getting tangles out of wet hair you start combing it out at the bottom first. Anyone with wavy or curly hair knows this. Why don't hairdressers? They always break and rip my hair by putting the comb at the top and ripping it down through wet hair.

    If I went in for a muddy I’d be disappointed in this cut. This doesn’t look right, it’s supposed to have lots of blunt layers not be even at the bottom.

  • @FridaAvosetta

    @FridaAvosetta

    That’s what I was thinking, there’s no layers to it and the swoop is so drastic that it just looks off. Not a great tutorial imo

    Not true. A true unstyled middy has limited or no layers toward the back, only layering in the front. I think you’re thinking of a “modified middy”. There are different ways to cut hair to suit different styles. This is a classic for the pageboy style made popular in the 40s.

  • @muffycrosswire2757

    @Kittiekaos89 - Good point, layers would make the pincurls or rollers more difficult.

  • @Plektrud

    I am sorry but this is not correct. In the diagram there are layers shaped into u shape, each after the other.
