Hi I have visited 3 dentists because I have a sensitive tooth or its the gums that are sensitive. I have invested in a sonic electric toothbrush because dentists say I have gum recession around that tooth. I floss also but I have had this sensitivity for 6 years. When I tap on the tooth it feels sensitive. I have had my fillings replaced as one dentist thought his may resolve the issue but it hasn't. What can I do to eliminate the feeling. Should I have a root canal?

Hi Zeenat. Sorry to hear about your issues. I would say that yes, a root canal is one option that will definitely fix your problem. Doing a root canal removes the nerve which will stop all sensitivity and discomfort. Of course I wouldn’t do a root canal if it’s just a little sensitive, only if it becomes painful or infected. Using a desensitizing toothpaste may also help. There are other possible treatment options, but a root canal is certainly one of the most common and effective ones. Good luck with your problematic tooth and I hope you find a good solution.
