Absolutely. I was getting back into wrestling as a kid around that time after kinda losing interest sometime in 93. It's a shame the head office didn't learn their lessons. Instead, once they began lining up Michaels for the top spot in '96, they similarly neutered him by lumbering his image with Jose Lothario.

It’s 100% the company’s fault. This is how he should’ve been booked. “A monster face” So The Royal Rumble he beats Bret clean in the ring with his Jackknife. Shawn Michaels he should’ve went over clean and without the ref with a twisted ankle shenanigans. I remember this era well. I didn’t consider Shawn at that time to be a legitimate threat to diesel, because diesel was his bodyguard. I suspect to that’s why the company paired Shawn with Sid. So Already in the first quarter of 1995 diesel flukes a win over Shawn and has a draw with Bret. Diesel is 7ft and looked a legitimate baddass. From There the company couldn’t even give Diesel a clean win over Waylon Mercy or the British Bulldog. I still think Diesel should’ve lost to Hart at Survivor Series, but can you imagine how much that win Solidifies Hart if he lost clean back in January? Hart would’ve been more of an underdog and had more crowd support. Likewise with Shawn at good friends better enemies. We would’ve seen Diesel as the monster who Shawn couldn’t beat as a face last year. Diesel was booked as a champ who fluked his way through 1995 I challenge anyone to tell me another wrestler that could’ve kept the crowd if he was booked this poorly.

1995 had some highlights, but by and large it was really a sad time for WWF. I don't know if I agree with Bruce, that 'exposing' that Diesel was named Kevin Nash was such a hit. But they watered down the character to their own detriment.

Nash had no one to work with. So it wasn't entirely his fault. The only person who could challenge him was Sid and they had the one match and it didn't do business. Look at the roster in 1995, who could he have worked with (far as top heels)? The only other person he might have been able to draw with was Undertaker and they didn't want to turn him heel.

Not even Hulk Hogan would have drew in that time period between 1993 and 1996, no one drew pretty much from mid 1992 until Scott Hall jumped to WCW and they began The New World Order storyline. In Diesel’s defence though Vince McMahon stripped Diesel of everything he was that got him over and tried to push him as the new Hulk Hogan after they failed doing the same with Lex Luger. Vince was so desperate for a new Hulk Hogan that everyone (Bret, Shawn, Luger and Diesel) was pushed as that type of top babyface until Steve Austin broke the mould and the type of character people wanted to see that would draw was pushed and Austin broke all kinds of drawing records, problem has always been Vince pushes who HE wants and what HE wants regardless of what the FANS or VIEWERS want.

All true. Vince refused to realize that Hogan and 80's wrestling revenue was a one off. But greed kept him pushing the old formula. He should have took the pay cut. Ran smaller venues. And just be happy he was making money. I would have enjoyed more compelling storylines and matches, then him constantly trying to make another Hulk Hogan.

I will say this: Kevin was still young and still learning at the time. He gained experience, confidence and mic skills by the time he got to WCW. I think he did well after that and I did enjoy a bit of it. However... There is no bigger mark for Kevin Nash than Kevin Nash. I have seen many, many shoot interviews with him. They are often entertaining, but his adulation for himself and the little boys club known as the clique is annoying. Too cool for school and had no regard for how their backstabbing actions affected many workers' livelihoods.

Backlund would have been a perfect transitional champ if people hadn't learned that Diesel was champ on the same show that they found out Bob beat Bret. They were trying to push TNG and the whole out with the old/in with the new. That's great, but do it in front of more than 7000 people. Heck they could have done it on Raw if they wanted it done that quickly. An hour and a half of crazy Backlund promos and putting whipper snappers in the chicken wing backstage, before Diesel vanquishes him in 15 seconds. Think of the visual that would have had, with TV going off the air showing Backlund crawling to the back and Diesel holding the strap.

Dude when they put the belt on him, the wrestling business was already at its lowest point of all time where all wrestling companies were struggling. I mean, Diesel’s first Wrestlemania as champion was held in the freaking Hartford Civic Center and he was on the roster with guys like Mantar, “make a difference” Fatu, Duke the Dumpster during those times. 1995 was probably the worst year the WWF/E has ever had in its history, Certainly in the 40+ years Vince has owned it.

Bret gets the World belt back from Backlund at Rumble? Scrapped the Jarrett stuff, and had Razor drop the IC belt to Owen Hart at Royal Rumble? Razor later competes in and wins the Rumble? WrestleMania main event: Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon... Razor wins in a highly contested battle? Razor feuds with Owen? Sid returns as a heel to feud with Bret? Bulldog? Shawn? Diesel? Razor? 1995 had so much potential and they just blew it all on Diesel and Shawn.

Nash had been around barely over a year and none of it as a face. Maybe if he stayed heel he could have had a run similar to Yokozuna who also won the title pretty fast but no, they tried to make him the face of the company literally the day Nash tuned face.
