This was unquestionably the best episode of this short-lived 60's TV series, largely because it centralized on the best aspect of the show -- Bruce Lee. Had the makers of the TV series expanded Lee's martial arts - as they did in this episode - the show would have lasted much longer and it would have become a major hit. Sad case of how racism and discrimination is not only damaging to minorities but to its perpetrators and the mainstream majority as well.
@AllRequired

In fact, it was the crowning moment of awesome for the entire series. Imagine, Kato having been so neatly and beautifully ambushed at the start despite everything, making it crystal clear (1) he knew there was going to be a fight, and (2) he was willing to let his boss have the rest of the bunch if he let him at the guy who put him in the trash earlier. Now it's Kato's turn to take out the trash.

@@franceswitham8214 I don't think that it was under appreciation as much as it was fear that the American mainstream wouldn't accept an Asian TV star. Kato (bruce lee) was a big reason why....me and my brother watched this at the time (well...the car also...lol) . Its amazing how there were complaints by some parents about the violence( kicking and hitting) this show had every week. If they only knew what we have today...lol. Even though me and my brother hated to see this show cancelled after one year...it was good... in the long run...because it was going to be a showing to the viewing public at how good of the kung fu skills that Bruce Lee really had. When his first movie was released here in America, not everyone knew who he was....but a lot of us did because of the Green Hornet series. Everyone eventually would soon know the name and his skills as a martial artist.

So bruce hada very loyal following due to his role as KATO and lee chung in longstreet then we got big boss aka Fists of Fury over seas fist of fury aka Chinese connection over seas way of the dragon aka Return of the Dragon over seas and the best of the lot in my opinion Enter the dragon the greatest martial arts movie ever made oh of course game of death revisited is the best version of the movie because of Bruce being so particular with his art most of the footage was discarded and the result movie flopped hope that this information is useful may it be well with you WALK ON 🇮🇪🇮🇪🙏💯👌👏

I LOVE Bruce Lee … the way that he was standing, then when Low Sing hit the floor, Kato did his final pose at that same time, lol. 😂 Did any of you notice that when Kato’s hat got knocked off while Low Sing was standing up dying, his mask almost came off too, but because Bruce is sooo FAST, he was able to keep it on his face while waiting for Low Sing to ‘ finally ‘ hit the floor. I have a feeling that the cut that Kato got on his forehead was actually real. ..

Starting in January 1966 (when Batman was rushed to TV by ABC because all their previous fall shows were all completely tanking) audiences got used to Batman's "campy" portrayal of heroes fighting crime. When The Green Hornet premiered it was pure drama and audiences were expecting something along the line of Batman and it wasn't appreciated as much and sadly it lasted only one season. It's only in reruns that it has had a huge renaissance.

Wasn't a case of how good anyone was, but creating a show that would appeal to the largest audience which, in America (and virtually all other English speaking countries), was predominantly White. In retrospect we can appreciate Bruce Lee's talent, but for a Chinese actor to even get a co-starring role in a mainstream television show in America in the 60's was an incredible achievement in itself. Kung Fu, the show from a few years later, was specifically written with a Chinese actor for the lead... And even though it was designed to show off Oriental martial arts and philosophical ideals, the studio just couldn't bring themselves to hire a Chinese man for the role, choosing instead to go with David Carradine who in my opinion was terrible.

@@scottpedroley5851 i think your forgetting one large detail when bruce went to Hong Kong and signed up for the two picture deal with Raymond chows golden harvest aftwr he made big boss aka Fists of Fury over seas 🇮🇪 he came back to the States to make longstreet the way of intercepting fist then went back ti Hong Kong and returned to do so more episodes of longstreet Wensdays child etc..

I have a feeling that the cut that Kato got on his forehead was actually real. ..
My favorite show. Couldn't believe it when it got cancelled. I came from watching Lost in Space, so I wasn't exposed to Bat Man which played opposite, so much. The Green Hornet was just so great.

I really miss the Green Hornet. Had a bit of a laugh of the guy standing in for Mako in the fight scene. Mako went from a buzz cut to full length hair and back to a buzz cut within seconds----amazing.

That was Bruce Lee's senior student ( and a renowned martial artist himself) Dan Inosanto standing in for Mako in the fight scene. This was their first fight scene together. The second time they fought onscreen was in "Game Of Death" when they had their famous nunchaku battle.

Duh..it's a good thing Nruce didn't lose his mask in the fight. Otherwise, it would have given away his and the Green Hornet's true identities. Whew!
First time I noticed Kato's hat getting knocked off! Still won the fight.
The stand in for Mako was Dan Inosanto. It was incredible the first time it aired on TV. Nothing had ever been seen like this.
Evidently I was 8 years old when I watched this Bruce Lee fight scene. It's the only episode I remember.
Bruce is legend there will be another like him.
❤ this is one of the best scenes in the Green Hornet series😊
Kato one of the great martial arts scenes of this show with Mako.
Pretty good job of intercutting Mako with Dan Inosanto,Bruce Lee's regular sparring partner. But if you watch close,at about 3:22 you can see where it's Dan instead of Mako.
For anyone who doesn't know, Mako’s fight double was none other than Dan Inosanto.
The Kato Show indeed lol!
Best fight of Bruce Lee.

It should been in 🎬 movies in the 1960s too much violence with guns ; fighting; Bruce Lee legendary martial arts fighter etc ; but seen better movies fights than his movies 🎬 production;; like Bruce lee had to win ;; Dorian tan vs Jim kelly they had a great draw fight ; Bruce Lee vs Roberto Duran boxing gloves no kicks
Green Hornet says "He backs down like a woman" and Bruce Lee gives an affirmative nod. Try getting away with that today. Ha Ha.

The strange and puzzling thing about this series is that how can a great actor and fighter of the first class in the sport of taekwondo like Bruce Lee can accept to play a role that is not major in this series, it is a great injustice in the presence of this professional in combat and in other fields
The most effective counterattack against the Mantis Fist is the Din Mok. But one must get very close to your opponent in order to use it.
Of course you would think its mako fighting the legendary Bruce Lee but if you look closely its none other than Bruce's student and best friend the great DAN INASANTO hope i spelt Dan's second name correctly so for all you real bruce lee fans theres the truth check it out real closely. And even though it was designed to show off Oriental martial arts and philosophical ideals, the studio just couldn't bring themselves to hire a Chinese man for the role, choosing instead to go with David Carradine who in my opinion was terrible.

similar ending to big boss man where the bad guy just is frozen after Lee kicks is ass...Lee is so fast that the guy is dead before the guy realizes it
As far back as the late 1960s I remember reading an old Karate book by Bruce Tegner where he said you can kill somebody for REAL by hitting them in the solar plexus striking UPWARDS .............At 3:34 in this footage you can see BRUCE hitting Mako that way like MACHINE GUN fire. Danny Inosanto as a stunt double there ! :)
I kinda wondered if Dan did the Wild Wild West episode (Katana -Jujitsu) when Robert Conrad did his first martial art scene. Can't remem the name of that episode. May not have been Dan though!
If they would have given the role of Cain to Bruce Lee in the TV show Kung Fu
Bruce Lee's "One Inch Punch" (3:34).
It's just not the same without the WATHAAAAAAAAH's
Losing Bruce Lees talent will always be Holliwoods biggest loss. Back then people were still openly racist.
