Bruce Lee Interview | Biggest Bruce Lee Collectors, Charles Damiano and Hector Martinez!

In this Bruce Lee Interview, two of the biggest Bruce Lee Collectors in the world, Charles Damiano and his good friend Hector Martinez have fun discussing the Bruce Lee phenomenon and the exciting world for Bruce Lee collecting!
I had the pleasure of visiting Hector Martinez's Bruce Lee Gallery in his apartment and it was amazing! Hundreds of rare Bruce Lee items displayed beautifully and as you will see, Hector takes great pride in his collection! And you will get a chance to have a glimpse of it in this exciting Bruce Lee interview.
We cover everything from collecting in the early 70's, where we found our items, how and why we got into Bruce Lee collecting, why was Bruce Lee so inspiring to people around the world, what made him so great, what would Bruce Lee be doing now if he were still alive and much much more!
Hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed filming it, hanging with my Bruce Lee brother Hector Martinez and reliving the joy and excitement we shared as kids growing up during the Bruce Lee craze!

Love your energy and enthusiasm it's infectious. I'm 57 years old so know exactly how you felt during the golden age of Bruce Lee. I remember as a teenager not being quite old enough in the UK to see Way of the Dragon and trying to look like an adult with my older brother and getting kicked out of the cinema. I was devastated.

martin Glad you could relate to our experiences! Only those that grew up during our time can understand and remember the magic of Bruce on the big screen! I too could have been thrown out of the theater because I was about 13 years old but in New York City it didn’t matter how old you were just as long as your admission was paid for! Thank you for your comment! 🙏

Hector and Charles, I am so glad I got to know guys like you on youtube who found inspired by Bruce Lee and collect Bruce Lee from posters to figurines. I am 52 now but back in the youger day, I have all Bruce Lee posters on the wall in my room and like you found a hero and idol in Bruce Lee. And now that I am 52 I am still collecting Bruce lee posters inaddtion recently Bruce Lee figurine but not sure if it is appropriate for my age to still collecting toys like this. I thought and Kind of embarrass to share it with my friends at work for I know they are not into Bruce and would judge me for being child like and not grow up. Well until I met you Hector and Charles who have been what I am going through and deeply collectting Bruce Lee stuff even now and proud of it, I begin to feel better and realize that I am not alone. So in a way you guys inspire me to belive in myself and that I am normal and its ok to be collecting Bruce and relive our childhood by collecting Bruce Lee stuff. Another word you guys give me confidence to continue doing what I love to do and that I thank you both very much.

Hello friend, I don’t know your real name but I’m so happy to have read your comment. Collectors are a rare breed, misunderstood at times and subjects of criticism. The good news is that collecting has proven to be therapy for both young and old. Like you, I too once thought that I had a problem by doing what I’m doing but to be honest with you I don’t recall being so happy and so pleasantly excited since I became part of this hobby. This “thing” we do has become a global phenomenon and like Elvis, Marylin Monroe, and The Beatles, Bruce Lee has his admirers and that’s where you and the rest of us come in. We are more than collectors, we are “preservationists” of an amazing legacy and a wonderful era. So enjoy what you do, never have any regrets and like Charles Damiano always says: “Have fun collecting!” God bless. 🙏

Hi Charlie,Hector let me start by saying my apologies for not watching your videos in any sequence. Shout out to Hector very inspiring episode here on how you started your collection and why. Me hermano! Very funny shit when you were on the bus and felt safe holding on to the magazine while the guy got his ass kicked. I saw that store on canal street when I travel down from the Bronx to see kungfu movies. Regrettably I never walked in because I never had enough spending money other than to see a double feature. I lived on east Tremont ave. And 176st. All my Bruce Lee movies were seen at the Art theater on Tremont ave. And Jerome ave. I saw Enter the Dragon at the Paradise theater on Gun hill rd.and main st. In 73. My mom sent me to the grocery store and bought some food for the house and there it was on a giant billboard pointing to the theater. It was 11:30am I took here change paid 1.50 to see it. Oh my god! I saw it 3times. Got home around 5.30pm and got yelled at. Lucky I didn't get my ass kicked,Puerto Rican mom's are deadly lol. Anyway again thks for sharing your wonderful stories. Love to meet you guys some day and cook some arroz and Pernil at my home and just chat.keep it up and thks again for the wonderful stories.✊

Charles Damiano ...i grew up in North Bergen NJ..minutes from the tunnel so going to chinatown for a dinner was always a must and still is! Im 41 now and still remember that photo of Lee and Norris from my childhoold hung up on canal street. Im surprised they never thought to put a statue of Bruce Lee in chinatown....yet we have a Jackie Gleason statue at port authority manhattan that no one cares about..go figure.

Hi, Mr. Damiano. :))) Thank you very much for your welcome. Amongst many deleted scenes, that is the version with the "Saw in the Head" scene. I hope somebody will come forward with that version before it is too late (maybe before the 50th anniversary of when "The Big Boss" first premiered). In regards to me being a collector: I love Bruce Lee with all my heart. However, I am most definitely not in the same league as you guys and other major collectors I have met. Regarding my treasured Bruce Lee items, on my channel, I have just finished making a Bruce Lee film. My most treasured items is what I promote to them in the film. Other than that, thank you for your response, and thank you for the video. I really enjoyed listening to you guys and looking at your collection in the background. :))) I really tip my hat off to you guys. As Bruce Lee says: "May it be well with you." :)))

Thank you for the kind words! Yes hopefully the Mandarin 1971 cut of the Big Boss gets released soon on Blue Ray so we can see the film in it entirety. Anyone who collects Bruce Lee items is proud of there collection and proud to be a Bruce Lee Collector regardless of how big or small your collection-since Bruce has touched each of us in a special way! Have fun collecting! Will check out some of your collection on your channel.

Thank you. :))) Before Blu-Ray, I was thinking if someone comes forward, or it happens to be found by someone before 2021, it should be released in the theatres nationwide (maybe even worldwide) for a few weeks. Just keep the audio (not redo it like most re-releases) just keep everything the way it is. :))) That version is the most iron-clad when it comes to copyright protection. Whoever owns it is asking for a ridiculous amount of money. That's why people who attempt to release it is always failing. They are always getting a "cease and desist". I hope whoever owns it, they would consider a trade from a collector that has something valuable enough that would be worth trading "The Big Boss" for. Anyways, thank you for your response. I love your channel. :)))

I'm not even sure a full copy of the big boss exists. Like you i really hope it does. I did read there was a version that was to be put out called The big boss The version you have never seen but alas it was cancelled due to copyright. I have spoken to Bey Logan about the uncut version. Like us, He too doesn't know for definate if a copy exists.

Hi Charles, I am a Bruce Lee fan, but find there is one thing that frustrates me about what has been left behind for us to see. What I mean is that there is not one piece of footage that shows Bruce actually having a REAL fight with anybody! The closest is the demo he gave with contact gear at a tournament but to me that wasn't all out no holds barred combat. All we have is anecdotes from people that knew him. Does anybody have any footage out there that the public hasn't seen?

  • @CharlesDamianoBLC

I hear you Martin and thanks for commenting! Not much left footage out there 45 years after his death. Especially real fight footage which I don't believe anyone has. The only real fight I heard of that Bruce had was with Wong Jack Man, which some have witnessed but none have recorded. The footage of him playing a martial arts teacher from the TV show Blondie is yet to be found, which would be footage on Bruce Lee that not many people have seen. Hope someone discovers that footage soon! Thanks again and glad you enjoyed the video!

Going to certain theaters and the noisy, but wonderful crowds enjoying every minute of Bruce lee. Some of those stores I remember, but of course I had to mail order from them. Look forward to more memories and more of both of your collection, Charles, John N is going to give you my phone # to contact me .
