3:13 Hats off to David Lowe. Too many new managers come in determined to "show them how it's done" and only ruin what had in fact worked well. It sounds like he had the sense and humility to look, listen and learn. Wish that happened more often.

I have three Brooks saddles and they are gorgeous. They are around the 10 year mark now and I've only tightened the one that has around 30.000 km on it once. They do look better with each passing year as the leather gets a shiny patina. Like any other product made of leather It is important to keep them dry and wax them once a year or so. It was a pleasure to see how the saddles are made and hopefully they can stay in business for centuries to come.

I used to ride a B67 for quite some time. Yesterday, I have returned to Brooks by purchasing the legendary B17 for my trekking bike. It was almost perfect out of the box, hard to imagine, what it will be like when properly broken in. These things are a work of art...

Casey Bitts Yes, Berthoud is definitely making nice stuff. A bit pricier. They run at about the 200/220€ mark. But whichever way you look at it, the rider is bound to wear out long before the saddle. Of course the saddle is the "throne" of the bike ; the more gorgeous it is, the more the bike stands out. By the way, be sure to oil (neatsfoot) regularly. It's best done by removing the saddle and starting very generously with the underside - let it soak up the stuff. Always remove surplus before adding the next coat. Let dry a minimum of 24 hours. Buff rigorously the last coat. Oiled leather will go on forever. The tragedy with the modern leather is that the animals suffer from pollution just like us. Their hides were far superior before cars and planes ; they grazed on pure organics. But the Brooks are still pretty nifty.

I just bought my third Brooks B17. I love that saddle. The first one is over ten years old. It's the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden. Mine is way more slack than that in the film. No need to tighten the saddle so early. Unless you want to. I tightent mine first time 1-2 years ago. The front medal piece almost came off the bolt. So I tensioned it a bit. Slack is good with the B17.

Every time I lock my bike I take out the saddle, seatpost and all, that I then stick through two straps I had sewn to the side of my rucksack. Have a cork on hand to stick into the seat tube. Of course you need a quick release clamp for the post, and don't forget to mark it for the height. If they want my saddle they'll have to take it from me. Plus: a bike without a saddle isn't very appealing to a thief I suppose...

At one time, I had five Brooks saddles on my stable of rides. Two B-67's (of whichI still have one) and one B-17 Flyer, and two B-17 Standards. I also had a large box of "others', some quite expensive, that were all failures. A Brooks is the only way to get a true custom fitting saddle. Every other is just an exercise in repetition of that goal, and are merely compromises.

Started doing wheelies in 1975 on Raleigh sports bikes. The unsprung brooks b72 was perfect for this as you could tell exactly what the bicycle was doing underneath you. I was 14 years old in 75. Today I'm 60, I have a 72 paramount, a 71 Raleigh international, a 74 Raleigh professional, and 2 sturmey archer Raleigh sports bikes. Needless to say they all sport brooks saddles. When I die I want Campagnolo record parts and brooks saddles keeping me company in my coffin. 😃

I have been riding Brooks saddles for over 40 years. Lovely comfy ride as long as they don’t break! I have had the tension pin and the frames break a few times and just today, my B17 Special (Copper) suffered a double calamity, both the tension pin and the front steel nose both fractured. I have posted off an on line form to Brooks to request a repair. But would I ride on anything else? Answer, no.. My recently purchased EBike (much upgraded from standard by my dealer) had to include a new B17 Special saddle in preference to that supplied. Despite experienced past faults, for me Brooks saddles are still first choice.

My B17 has been wonderful and super comfortable but I'm hoping the new Flyer will be even more comfortable for those long days in the saddle. I get so many people ask "is that thing comfortable" when they look at my B17 LOL. I guess since it's not smothered in 6 lbs. of gel and lycra how can it be right? They just don't get it - until they ride one. This was a fun watch.

Very disappointing. I think I may repair the saddle using the larger size copper rivets, if I can find them. BTW, the name should be 'BROOXIT', since BROOKS was sold to Sella Italia in 2002.

I was given one with a cracked leather top. Is there a way I can get it repaired? I want to keep it even though it might mean I have to buy a style bike that goes with it

The metal components of our saddles can be replaced or repaired, but nothing can be done for a damaged leather top.

Aluminum smal rivets are weak point, though. If you're thinking about a Brooks go for the models with large copper rivets. I'd even suggest the company to go for brass rivets, they don't rust or oxidize.

Brass rivets do, however, work harden & shear off. They also weaken when used to join to steel when exposed to moisture, the zinc content basically dissolves out due to galvanic action. Aluminium actually beats brass for such applications. They actually offer solid nickel rivets as a spare part, damned expensive as rivets go, but then nickel is damned expensive compared to the materials used for most rivets too.

Informative video, but nothing about fitting or how they feel while riding the bike.
