It’s probably to late now joe but if you buy a foam gun and use gunable foam you can control the flow much easier and you don’t use half as much foam. Just turn the back screw of when not in use clean out with foam cleaner rarely as that’s what makes em clog good luck

For future you may consider getting the gun for the foam, a lot more control over the speed and amount that comes out. Also you can buy foam cleaner, which is almost magical the way it dissolves the foam, whether wet or dry, it also removes the black staining.

  • @eleanordeboat4191

Probably too late now but you can get a product called evo-stik polyurethane wood glue, which is a liquid but expands to fill a joint like foam. It comes in a tube suitable for a caulking gun or in a bottle. It expands much less than foamfix so is much more controllable.

Ah yes I know the stuff. Only thing I’d say is the cost of it vs spray foam for the size of some of the gaps I’d have to fill it would be considerable but considerably less messy for sure!

Got to ask, are you sealing the rope and floors now? If not I am wondering how you will keep the rope clean and stop it getting wet, when clean the floors, especially in the bathroom. Never seen rope used. Is that a boat thing? A tradie doing my timber house floors, used silicon, which was ridiculous as it falls through when the boards expand. I enjoy watching your reno.

  • @DanniandJoe

So we’re using rope more as an aesthetic gap filler (it’s used in the boat world to build old ships as it swells when it gets wet and seals). Now the floor has shrunk to its smallest (hopefully) in the summer the gaps shouldn’t get much bigger at all and then the foam will hold it anyway. It’s hessian rope so quite hardy and hoovers really well, we use the cleaning pads/mop so doesn’t get soaking wet except for rain if the doors are open for a bit but seems to work so far.

Not sure but that bird thing on your chimney, may cause a heck of a down draft, going by its very shape. If you get rid of that and use a normal cowling it may then draw properly. Just love the look and feel or real floor boards, adds a nice bit of character and something to keep us busy 😂 it should be grand for a few years now without much bother. The bird cowl rotates in the wind and should help but it bloody doesn’t 😂😂

There may not be a manual for a lot of things in this world but there is always common sense which obviously you are sadly lacking, why wouldn't you just use a silicon type of sealer or No More Gaps extrude it into the gap and you have 24 hours basically to put the rope back in.

There’s cost & time to factor in to common sense, don’t forget. Some of these gaps are quite large & would use multiple tubes of sealant each.

@@DanniandJoe If you buy the cartridge type you could do several boards full length.
