I can’t decide whether you are both completely mad, or extraordinarily brave. Both, I think. Stay safe.

Yes definitely a mix of both 😂😫
So so mad, brave, and inspirational, just love you guys. You said you didnt have a film crew with you, but the quality of filming says otherwise, your vlogs are so good, great filming and drone shots as well as covering all those miles. Thank you both so much for filming. Best wishes Christine x

Motorcycling trick is to pick up the throwaway gloves from garage forecourts and wear them over your gloves when its raining.
@paulcharleton3208
Жыл бұрын
That's funny cos I have severe hand eczema caused by allergic contact dermatitis and I use those forecourt gloves UNDER gardening gloves when I'm gardening or doing DIY as they have no powders and the material itself is quite inert so I don't react to them.

I admire your determination. Busy roads, bike problems and heavy rain. By the end of this trip you'll either never want to cycle again or be planning your next tour. I cycle mostly in France and find 95% of the drivers are very respectful of cyclists. My wife hates traffic even more than me so I spend ages planning routes that stick to minor, mostly empty, roads. It can add distance but I'd rather that than one of us be squashed. I'm very keen to see if you made it but I'm watching the videos in order. Thanks again for a nice video.

Thank you! Yes I can imagine France being very civil towards cyclists, there’s a lot of designated routes from what we’ve read as well!

Good thing about knees Joe if their not up to it don't push or ignore that fact, painkiller help does not help catledge damage, as you will be looking at bigger problems or more surgery down the road a bit. Unless you have big money you will lose all knee rotation and bending partly is all you will manage, until you need sticks.

Have you considered Power Grips on you pedals?? Much simpler and less expensive than traps or clips/boots and much more efficient for you pedal power because you get energy from the upstroke.

Someone recommended these but haven’t seen them in any shops on our trip so far! Makes sense to get the power out of the upstroke though

How does one communicate traveling country to country as your doing. Is the Queens English a common language across Europe. My family’s roots are UK in origin, my wife’s Portuguese. We visited the Azores and the Portugal mainland a few years ago. English was in common usage everywhere that tourist such as us were likely to visit.
@DanniandJoe
Жыл бұрын
We try our best to learn a couple of words/phrases but most people speak back to us in English! We visited the Azores some years ago and loved it!
I don't drive a car and never owned one. I cycle or walk everywhere by necessity. Either for bike touring trips to national parks during my vacations, or going to my family's place in the countryside. Regarding the cars passing close; it's not whatever app you are using for your route that is "trying to kill you", it's the people driving those cars. Sometimes there are no "better" alternatives, no bike lanes, no paths, just those awful roads designed for speed, and having people driving cars passing so close all the times just radicalized me into being against car culture in general. It made me realise how most of the world is designed to accomodate cars, and that driving one seems to disconnect some people from their humanity. I was following you for the narrowboat stuff and were a bit less interested in the van renovation part, but I was pleasantly surprised to see yout trip turn into this touring/bikepacking adventure. You seem to be doing pretty well so far! I wish you both the best. "Enjoy" :-)
@DanniandJoe
Жыл бұрын
That’s a really good point actually. We’ve never really cycled much back home in the UK but this trip has inspired us to do so. So It’ll be interesting to see how our experience compares to travelling mainland Europe - from what we’ve read the UK is pretty poor for cyclists expect major cities. For the first part of Italy there were cycle routes everywhere but as we reached Veneto they were few and far between (for the route we needed to take). It’s been an eye opener for sure & can see how it turned you anti car completely!
