Broken Toy into Epic Sci-fi Diorama

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I take a broken toy bought for £1 and turn it into an epic sci-fi diorama. I apologise for the audio issues. Since making the video I realised the spaceship is from Star Wars. If you have any questions or want further information on any of the topics covered in this video please do not hesitate to get in touch.

    This build inspired so many ideas as I watched it! I thought maybe placing one of those cheap dollar store flickering tea lights inside the cockpit might give the impression of sputtering electrical systems trying to work. Also, pieces of a broken robot scattered next to the wreck that had tried to crawl out of it. So many possibilities!

    Amazing work! I didn’t recognize the ship, but I definitely spotted the hole for the Astromech droid (R2-D2). The robots make a dome, when riding in that spot, however, I like what you added there - spaceships being either sleek or bulky, with spires or modules here and there, somewhere for the pilot(s), and definitely engines. Your painting and effects really make this piece stand out, as well as the work on the terrain. Once again nice work, and thanks for sharing your techniques.

    I know this is a bit..... ok a lot late. When working with that durable toy plastic use a small torch to heat up the area you want to bend, cut or scratch or make bullet holes and other damage in. Do this slowly you don't want to blister the plastic. Unless of course that's the look you want to try. Try using this technique on old broken scrap toys you'll be amazed at the kind of details you are able to achieve with this.

  • @creativecuts7803

    @creativecuts7803

    I am lucky enough to work in an art studio with a good air filter. Depends on what you are spraying, if you are spraying solvents then extra precaution is needed but with water based paint as long as you wear a mask, I had a makeshift spray station for years which was basically a cardboard box to catch over spray. Also the amount of spraying you do is a factor. Of its to paint the odd mini then a small simple solution is all you need but if you are doing bike tanks or helmets on a regular basis then you would need to have something more substantial. Hope that helps a little but by all means hit me up of you need any more pointers. I am no expert that's for sure but have been airbrushing for the last 20 years so have definitely picked up a couple of things here and there. 👍

    I am far from an expert in any of this but from your explanation - I imagine that the base of such a city would be where all the city infrastructure would be - sewers/pipework, passages, the very pit where no one would want to go. Where the real low lifes exist. The gutter! From a playable point of view I guess I would try to keep things accessible/playable - being able to move and remove minis without too much drama - so no external walls.
