Broadway's Anastasia | Talks at Google
From the Tony Award®-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, and inspired by the beloved films, ANASTASIA is the new Broadway musical that’s “one of the most gorgeous shows in years!” (New York Observer).
We are joined by cast members Christy Altomare, John Bolton, and Zach Adkins.
This dazzling show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.
ANASTASIA features a book by celebrated playwright Terrence McNally, a lush, new score by Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics), and direction by Tony Award® winner Darko Tresnjak. As The Wall Street Journal raves, “Fantastical, intelligent, well-crafted, exhilarating and full of surprises, it deserves a coronation. ANASTASIA is the real thing.”

Can I just say how much I love seeing Christy Altomare sitting there answering questions and the second “journey to the past” begins she disappears and it’s %100 Anya? Such a captivating performer!
I'm really happy that they removed Rasputin and the bat. I mean they were funny but silly and I prefer more realism for this version. Plus the Romanov loved Rasputin so why would he try to kill her? I'm only sad that they didn't use "At the beginning...

Welll...i think that Rasputin could be there in the show (in a realistic way and no so silly), at the end of the day he was a real person in the romanov’s life.
I like how Zach and Derek's versión of Dmitry are so different. You can really see it in how they perform My Petersburg. Zach is more loving while Derek is angrier.

It feels very much like Derek's Dmitry recognizes a city that has been his home through it all, good and bad, but he has had to make his way through it. Zach's Dmitry is more loving of the city that gave him the opportunity to grow up, even if it wasn't always good.
ZACH IS SO AMAZING AS DMITRY
when you’re watching this the week the show closes and you can’t stop crying 😭

I love getting an understudy perspective! Brings more layers to life in the business.
I love that the host asked Chisty about what she thought of Gleb and Anastasia. Wish they would do that for the actors who played the phantom, Raoul & Christine, I want to know who they think Christine should’ve chosen
You know what I kept saying to myself was that if there was going to be a live action remake of Anastasia it would be just like this-because I noticed some of the live action Disney remakes tended to re-examine the stories why these stories are so beloved but they also explored the darker sides of these stories in a more gritty, realistic way like this musical does
So proud of my little cousin!!!

Oh! I would love to meet your cousin!
i love zach's dmitry very much!! he deserves all the appreciation and so much more.
This was my first Broadway show. Saw it two weeks ago. It was truly amazing! I would see it again and again.
It’s so nice to hear that Zach was late bloomer like me. I started acting in high school as well and I always felt like I started too late to ever make it. Really inspiring to hear that his story is a lot like mine.

im 18 now and just graduated high school, but i feel like it's too late to start acting/singing idk. i want to do a course in uni, but i lose confidence knowing that others have probably been acting/singing since they were little.

*yuta's smile heals me* You can still be Homecoming Queen; it'll just be a different kind of home!
I saw Zach when he was understudying and he was FANTASTIC. Truly fun and more free with the role.
It's amazing that evening singing LIVE sounds just like the broadway recording!!
Saw this cast twice last week!! Loved them all
i love all of them so much if any one of them needed a heart transplant i would be their donor but that would be a shame because their hearts are just so pure and so kind and so lovable and i hope they become immortal or something because they are just 👌🏻👌🏻
They're all so sweet together
Hahaha... my daughter is 5 years old and we have been listening to the music from the show the last few weeks, she LOVES it!
they are able to put so much emotion in their voices while singing, they are all truly incredible ❤️❤️
Wish Ramin was there!

but where is Broadways Derek Klena™
😍😍😍
Rasputin was assassinated December 30, 1916. The movie starts at a ball in December 1916. So Rasputin is alive in both the historical and movie timelines in December 1916. Rasputin's state of "life" during the siege of the Palace in February 1917 in the movie can be interpreted many ways.
Where's Derek?

It’s great! But they’re off by 1 year, it said 1917 when they died, but it was really 1918. Also! Rasputin survived getting poisoned and SHOT! so they stabbed him and threw him in a frozen lake...
@sophiejones4013

the frozen death was real I thought that was just for the movie
Awww 😫 no Derek.....
The way Christy describes Gleb’s character makes me uncomfortable, because I’ve always interpreted it like he feels more fatherly toward her. He repeatedly calls her a child/naive/innocent, and the notion that he’s in love with her just rubs me the wrong way
@BOOM_TSARAT_TSARAT

Remember these Gleb lines: “I’m here everyday”, or “You’re the little street sweeper! I almost…”? They didn’t sound quite paternalistic to me
so is like every guy who plays dmitry attractive or just me
Where da fuq is my son( Derek Klena) but Zach Adkins is pretty good but he's not my son. BUT MY DAUGHTER (Christy Altomare) IS STILL A QUEEN
