I’m 56 and often think back to the early 90’s and ask myself, how the heck did hiphop go from no swearing (Big Daddy Kane/Run DMC), trolling other MC’s (with humour) and social commentary (Public Enemy) to gangster rap? I personally believe, it was orchestrated, as if by design by higher powers, to create a sub genre of hiphop that in itself fed off the anger/angst/isolation that being brought up without a father fed off.
