I got my Brittany as a puppy at the age of 64. She is now 7 1/2 yrs old and I’m 71. I named her Emily, she’s the girl I never had. My son introduces her as his sister. Best thing ever happen to me, she keeps me going!

I've shot over English setters, English pointers, Golden and Chesapeake retrievers and Brittanys. All have their great attributes but all-around, I think Brittanys are the best. My first experience was with a group of friends in the field during pheasant season. We had hired a handler and his Brittanys. We all took a break at mid-day. I sat down with my back against a tree. One of the dogs looked at me for a few seconds then walked over and calmly curled up in my lap for a snooze. The owner said, "He's never done anything like that before." Have heard similar things many times over the years when I interact with animals of almost any sort. Chemistry I guess. I'm old now and wouldn't want to share my life with one because of their high exercise requirements to be happy.

Wow, thank you so much for bringing my two boys back!!!! Maestro, orange and white previous show dog then dumped at a vet. And then there's my Devin. Liver and white small boy. he was allergic to the post weaning wormer and it stinted his growth BUT he could talk a blue streak! Moma, beer, I want out, I love you...and on. I have their ashes on my mantel. I absolutely love the spaniel breeds, every single one! Cheers to the Brittany, you are so loved in this household!

I raised, trained, and hunted Brittanies for about 11 years. Sort of a English Setter lite. I went back to setters. Just more dog with the same temperament. Cover more ground and find more birds. I am older and slower now so I have switched to a Springer ;) Excellent dogs. I make mine keep my checkbook ;) But none of these are pets!!! They are bred to run for 8 hours straight!!!! Can't imagine trying to keep a Brittany hemmed up in an apartment ;)

Best Hunting dog and companion my grandfather ever had and it grew up in an apartment, with no training....

My family had a female Brittany named Happy when I was a teen/young adult. One of the best dogs I've ever met.

I am on my 4th Brittany. I wouldn’t consider any other breed. I believe your analysis was pretty spot on.

Yes I LOVE Brits. I have had 7 and one now. Great family pet, highly loyal, affectionate and superb upland bird hunter. Pointer breed. They love to swim, play with toys, retrieve - great companionship..

My favorite...grew up with them. I live in a housing area where dogs are leashed outside. So I won't have one.

Recently adopted a 2 or 3 year old brianny. Trained as a gun dog, shot by her first owner in the shoulder. Amazing charities gave her a new start here. Any tips? She walks with a limp 2 or 3 year old.

Suzanne Beaudry They like to explore. I found out that Daisy use sight and sound, not scent, to find me. So I always make sure to stay within sight of her. I also work with her to stay the leader when out walking her. I will walk a distance and she will run to catch up and as soon as she zooms past me I will change direction. When she sees I am walking in a different direction she will be speedy and catch up again. Then I change direction again. I don’t usually call her because I want her to pay attention as to where I am. As I said she doesn’t follow by scent and I don’t want to have to call her or use a whistle. As she is nearing 3 I find that she will run to catch up and stop within a foot or two of me and walk along with me. But she is an explorer and if there are birds to flush she becomes deaf as her instinct takes over.

You have to train them to stay with you,but french Brittany is closer range, than american.We have both and see the difference.

Mine explore, many times for hours, but they always come back home. I do not keep mine penned up. They are free to roam, and they do a great job of protecting my chickens.

If you start walking with them off leash when they are just puppies, they generally will want to stay with you. My Brittany always stays with me in the woods.

Our Brittany learned to climb a 5 ft. Hurricane fence. If they are not well exercised or bored, they will find a way to get the stimulation they crave.
