The way she switches from her natural and baby voice shows how a struggle for her to be forced to sing with the baby voice. Sometimes it's hard to reach the baby voice notes for her so she had to go back to her deeper voice...

First of all, there's no such a thing as "alto" as a vocal fach. Alto is a part or section in choral music. The lowest female voice is CONTRALTO. Second, she's not a contralto. Her voice is too bright, light and feminine to be a true contralto. She's just a MEZZO with a low tessitura and a limited vocal range + underdeveloped upper belting and head voice. I love how Britney fans throw these terms they don't understand at all just like that. PS: If you meant "they made her sing in the Soprano tessitura" you're wrong. She doesn't sing in the soprano tessitura AT ALL. Most of her songs are perfectly fine for Mezzos.

If anything they felt she was lucky to be there....this was a display for record executives and people in the industry they were trying to shop her out to for more songs. The people in that room are responsible for getting enough tracks on her first album to even be released. Since she didn’t have a name she had to perform to earn her songs.

No, Britney cannot sing and she’s proven that throughout her career. Her voice was not unique she was simply struggling trying to mimic her powerful voice she had as a kid but simple lost that ability due to maturing in age. Her label seemed to know exactly what to do. Switch up her technique to do with was allow max martin to teach her a new vocal technique that they could work with inside the studio. They are many people who sound this bad when trying to sing and if they audition for a singing competition they wouldn’t make it past tryouts. The only treasure is her confidence to keep going knowing her voice was struggling

There are so many great artists that ended up destroyed or dead inside because they’ve been sold out ! You’re right this is the real Britney but unfortunately there was nothing powerful about her vocals here. She simply vocalized her voice to make it louder but there was no resonance there. Jive wasn’t trying to hide her talents Jive was trying to hide her deteriorating vocals which is understandable when you’ve invested money in an artist who is losing their vocal ability as they matured. I’ve listened to “original doll” And unfortunately there were no hits within that body of work and any smart company is not about risk destroying the product they invested in by releasing such an album. She was blessed for a record company to give her a chance when the risk was so high which is why i assume they put her on that temporary contract.

Whatever she was doing with the baby voice was NOT EASY and it was super GOOD. Oops is one of her best vocal albums exactly because she perfectly the baby voice with the Mariah/Whitney melismas/vibratos. So yeah, originally her voice was meant to take them by front, but when she signed she switched strategies. Just saying there's nothing wrong with the approach Britney took to singing (except restraining a big voice into a small voice :/)

I admire her courage and confidence to stand on her own and put herself out there to make her dream a reality. Even before she became famous you could just see she was oozing with that X factor. She’s just always had that star quality.

She really is reminiscent of her younger self in the MM Club. A huge amount of fame for such a young girl. So sad to see her now, with the cryptic posts and 12-year conservatorship. Just makes you think what awful things happened to her whilst so young in the music industry.

There is something so beautiful and sad about this video. Many thanks for sharing. It blows my mind watching this now. Britney (clip) has no idea that she would one day reach living legend status. She is one strong girl.

This video was created in 1998 before she rocked BABY ONE MORE TIME. even so she was performing baby one more time songs in some malls of the United States. She was performing making promotion to her Album. I think so. And in this video she sung live from start to ending. It is really clear Haters you can notice she is singing live? What can you say about this?? No autotune No lip sync

She had a very distinct natural voice. Similar to Gwen Stefani in that you know it’s them. It’s too bad she didn’t focus more on vocals.

It's a shame that she wasn't allowed to own the lower register. It could have been a unique selling point, like it has been for so many other women (Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Etta James, Tboz from TLC, Mutya Buena, Lana Del Rey...)
