As a Premier League and MLS fan, there’s no denying the talent gap, but it’s a very young league and it’s improving rapidly. Also similar to how college football is often times more exciting than NFL, the MLS is fun to watch with bad defense cause it makes for some great goals

I prefer to look at it a little differently, although I agree with you in the main. MLS are legitimately a top ten domestic league. There are the European Big 5, then perhaps Belgium, Holland, Mexico, and perhaps Russia. The South American giants in Brazil and Argentina aren't what they once were because their best domestic players go to Europe. I don't particularly care that our domestic league lags a bit. It's *OURS* ... We don't need anyone's approval to love it. The product is undeniably entertaining.

I’ll agree with most of that but I will say, MLS isn’t much younger than the Premier League - it’s the clubs themselves that are younger, otherwise totally agree that it’s improving very much and has a lot of exciting scores when you have such poor defense 😂

@@christianmvalencia Well yeah technically the Premier League only started what, 92? But the English football league started and has been going on since 1888. So MLS is only a year younger than Prem but the first soccer league in the US began in 1921 and was on and off every two decades.

David Beckham was the first big name European player to come to the MLS. His impact was significant for the sports' growth. It drew interest from casual fans in the US, it drew interest from people in the UK, Europe, and Latin America. It also paved the way for Thierry Henry, Kaka, Pirlo, Gerrard, Lampard, Zlatan, David Villa, Robbie Keane, etc. to come over and play here.

I remember reading that on the LA times and the grand what like 250 million he made in the end. Time goes by quick like 20 years ago. The stadiums were empty.. we used to go on field trips to see the dodgers and galaxy and man the stadiums were empty. Today they're packed which is awesome. I always thought sports were cool and entertaining even then haha.

What Europeans don't understand is that about half the players in MLS are Americans or Canadians, but the other half is a mixture of players from other countries...primarily Mexico, Central America, South America & the Caribbean...who are in their prime. There are a handful of European players past their prime, but not that many. There's a considerable Latin American influence in MLS and American football.

The reason why I don't think the MLS will be as big as the fans want is because US sports investments rely on private investment instead of fanbase contributions like in Europe. The reason why investors won't want to get into MLB business is bc of the sports rules...there's no stoppage or ad breaks and the half time is just 15 minutes (not enough for major networks to broadcast the sport bc they won't get ad revenues like the NBA OR NFL)

I’m not lying one bit when I say that I’d love you to do more than the five MLS reactions I see on your channel. It’s so refreshing to see Europeans, Brit’s especially, enjoying the league rather than crapping on it. Yes, there’s a decent talent gap between the prem and MLS though I think it’s closing slowly but surely, but that doesn’t mean it’s not enjoyable. Many former prem players who have come over here within the last 1-3 years have compared the level of competition to teams anywhere from 16-20 in the prem to 1-10 in the championship, so that’s actually pretty cool considering the league is only 28 years old and to have that kinda perception by prem players playing over here now.

They're currently playing their home games at Nissan stadium home of the Tennessee Titans NFL team but they're expecting their own 30,000 seat stadium to be built soon. MLS definitely isn't on par with the big 4 leagues in Europe but it has improved dramatically since the beginning. Shortly after Beckham signed, there were big problems in Central and South America with clubs not being able to pay players. The league had a big influx from Argentina, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, and others. Since then a lot of younger talents from there have been coming here since, frankly, they make a lot more money than they do there and more European teams have been scouring MLS for talent to put on their squads. So the young guys see the chance for the huge pay days.

World football watchers generally consider MLS to be about the 9th or 10th best league in the world. Per match attendance (pre-Covid) is comparable to or greater than all but the very biggest leagues in the world. The talent level and youth development academies are improving at a rapid, even startling pace. The league has two things holding it back. First - its season is out of step with the rest of the world. For the purpose of marketability, organizers took the decision from the outset that they didn't want to compete with the NFL for an audience. There is also the difficulty of inclement weather making winter games difficult in much of North America. Second: there is the lack of a traditional system of promotion and relegation. There are indeed lower levels of the sport in the American pyramid. Therefore, the infrastructure to implement pro/rel exists. There is a huge and growing hunger for world class football (soccer) in America. Now that MLS are financially viable and have an entertaining, quality product, the money is starting to flow. MLS players still have a financial ceiling much lower than that of players in higher profile leagues, but it's rising quickly. The next step will be two-pronged... First: keep domestic players from MLS academies in the MLS, rather than losing them to Europe. Second: make the league an attractive first destination for top flight foreign players. Typically, foreign players in MLS are either big names in the sunset days of their careers, or journeymen making stops in smaller European leagues or lower divisions in powerhouse football countries. Mark my words... The day is coming soon when a Harry Kane, or a Ronaldinho, or a Rooney, will be known as an MLS player first. America has discovered the Beautiful Game. Only a fool would dismiss them simply because her clubs haven't been around since Queen Victoria was pre-menopausal.

Carlos Vela came up with Arsenal, bro. I can only assume you know him, but just don;t remember. By the way, if you want to check out another crazy MLS video, hit up "Do You Believe in zLAtan? | El Tráfico, Chapter 1". It was from Zlatan's debut with the Galaxy, against the local rivals, and it... was... CRAZY. You will also see more Vela magic in that one, as well.

MLS quality has really rose in quality the past few years and the fan support is insane. In my opinion for the league to begin challenging the European leagues quality wise they need promotion/relegation, lots of well supported and ran well teams lower in the pyramid that deserve the chance at being in MLS plus it would increase the amount of youth players transitioning to pro and give smaller cities that can't support a NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL team the opportunity to have a major league team Ready to the Portland Timbers/Sounders rivalry, best rivalry in MLS that predates the league itself

Nah definetly not promotion/relegation. That would destroy what makes the mls unique. In order for the league to advance in terms of quality they simply need the ability to pay their players more. The salary cap for each team is just under 5 million. And while each team can have up to 3 designated players that don’t count against the cap (past players like Beckham, Rooney, ibrahimovic), it’s just simply not possible to put together a world class team for 5 Milly.

@@macphee24 Stop being close minded. Of course MLS has to have Pro/Rel some time in the distant future. However, right now it's in the expansion phase still. Hopefully once expansion is over after a few years Pro/Rel will be implemented then we will definitely see the quality of play rise in MLS to the likes of other leagues across Europe and south america.

@@Astro007GE-X you're naive if you think it will happen. Owners are paying fees of well north of $300 million to enter the league. No owner is going to vote for the risk of being relegated. You would have had to start the league with it, you'll never add it later. Besides, this notion that you'll never be a good league if you don't have it is just utter nonsense.
