The King is still in London is a British song dating from the Second World War, written by Benjamin Baruch Ambrose. It celebrates King George VI’s decision to stay in London during the Blitz, remaining alongside the people to suffer the consequences of fierce German bombing.

At the height of the Blitz Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother) was advised by the Government about evaluating her daughters to the Dominion of Canada (Where the Dutch Royals spent time) and herself out of the city She replied "The children won't go without me. I won't leave the King. And the King will never leave." Adolf Hitler called her "The most dangerous woman in Europe"

@@MonarchistMusic That George VI stayed in London during the Blitz reinvigorated people's faith in the British Monarchy, and with King Charles III, it seems that the monarchy isn't going anywhere.
He was 'not only still in London', He stood firm by His people, when London was bombarded by German V1 and V2 missiles and Buckingham Palace was heavily damaged during the raids.
King George VI for me is one of the best kings that the United Kingdom has ever had, he lived through everything, the First World War, The abdication of his brother, the Second World War. And he always stood firm before everything... Too bad he died very young, he could have done more for the country God save The King!

George VI was a good man, and he could have done so much more for his country had he not died so early...

She became not only Britain's most-beloved monarch (take that, Queen Victoria), not only Britain's longest-reigning monarch, but the world's longest-reigning female monarch, longest-reigning adult monarch, and the second-longest-reigning monarch in history (Louis XIV reigned for 72 years, she ruled for only 70). She had some of the heaviest burdens to bear (Britain joined the EU and left the EU during her reign). Now, her son, who is unloved by the people, has the burden to bear in order to regain what his mother had lost. Nobody loved Charles III. The good news is, he's very old, and his reign will be short. Everybody loves Prince William. He has no popularity problems. So when he becomes King William V, he will be the greatest King Britain has ever had since George VI.

Aye, it’s a brilliant little gem from the war
How much I love this song! I remember playing and singing it so many times when I was in the capital of United Kingdom. One moment was especially memorable - when I went to see the Buckingham Palace. But despite the fact that the sentries were dressed in red, Union Jack was waving and it was during the reign of Elisabeth II, I found the song fitting perfectly for the moment. Now whenever I listen, I remember these great days Do you know more songs like this? Songs which gives this nice tune of England and London :)

He can barely be called a king he is a disgrace to our glorious country and parliamentary monarchy. (^Forgetting the fact parliament nor the monarch have a legitimate say in the running of the country which isn't all that much of a bad thing.)

The government demanded she live in Buckingham palace instead of her home with Philip, which she really couldn’t say no to. Nowadays the British let the King live where he wants, he just has his offices in the palace. I think that’s better to be fair, who on earth would want to live in that grey rectangle surrounded by gates that caters mostly to tourists.

I don't see that this is a particularly "royalist" tune, other than in the general context at that time, people were usually royalist. This song was a direct response to Nazi propaganda during the Blitz: you poor Brits have to suffer the bombs while your king is living it up somewhere out in the country. The king certainly appeared in London from time to time, but whether he spent all his time there, who knows?

Do you have any idea of the geography of the London area? Windsor is just up the Thames and was bombed. Probably in error or by German bombers dropping their payload before returning to France. And anyway, it was important that Hitler did not score a major propaganda victory by killing members of the Royal Family
