The Marines, Royal Marines get Arctic Warfare training. Great to see us Brits and Yanks working together. Stop the petty name calling we are allies and can learn from each other. When the shit hits the fan, this training and trust with each other will save lives US and UK. Love from England.

I dont understand this shit. I went sea kayaking on Lake Superior in March at age 15 on a school trip and had the same basic cold water training to be able to simply not hyperventilate myself to death, while trying to reach dry land, or boat. The US is stacked full of freezing water conditions that rival most anything on the planet. How are they not training on this? I've seen this time and time again. The US has the benefit of mimicking almost every environment on the planet and yet we dont train our conventional forces in those conditions, apparently.

I know this a year late but it’s like that even in training. Although you can still be shouted out for doing something stupid, ultimately the Royal Marines want to see everyone succeed. As long as you are giving something your all and not giving up, they’ll support you, help you and encourage you. If you don’t give it your all then such positive reinforcement won’t be reciprocated. Ultimately, so long as you are visibly giving 110%, even if you fail, you’re not going to be berated for it. You’d likely receive a “good effort” for trying your best. If you help yourself and clearly want to earn your beret, then they will do everything they can to help you achieve that… not just scream at you 🙂

Remember, these are all tough guys... and here I am thinking to myself "wow some of them are struggling with the cold shock" - I like to think it looks easy, but appreciate this isn't anywhere near to what I'd imagine it to be. I can deal with heat, but can shiver at the slightest breeze, so not sure I'd be able to do it quite so "panic free". Good on them all. Amazed how some did it like it was an everyday task.

@@williameaton9058 nato funding has nothing to do with british armed forces. We dont receive any of that fund but we are the 2nd largest contributor and we have never requested any nato support or received any of the nato funds.. even during the falklands war which we faught by ourselves, even though we had the right to request nato help but chose not to. Infact the only country that has called for nato support was america, which dragged britain into a war in Afghanistan and Iraq. What you see in this video is highly trained British royal marine commandos training American infantry marines in arctic warfare. We have helped train American military personnel since ww2, nothing to do with nato, the royal marines also train fbi swat teams in Quantico, navy seals in texas for cqb and bring navy seals to britain for specialised combat training. They also take snipers from several diffrent military groups for specialised sniper training. To my knowledge no British soldier receives ANY training from american military groups.

CRIPPLED BEEF Eli Charlton cool, I’m American and I love the UK. In fact my fiancé is English and we have twins due in December. First in my family to be born in Britain in over 200 years. I’ve had family that has served in the armed forces as well my grandfather was a Maine in Korea in the ate 50’s in Hong Kong he started a pub fight with Royal Marines just to wined them up. My dad was in the US navy told me stories about the Royal Navy in Egypt in 70’s. Since 1862 the US Navy has been dry but one time they were docked in Alexandria next to a Royal Navy frigate and said all he could see was the men removing just bag after bin bag of beer cans and bottles off the ship. My cousin served in iraq with the Brits in ‘03. I can agree, Well it’s like that for everybody as you said . You have your loud mouths in Britain as well met a few myself. The British people Ive met that have been in the states have always been great. But for the most part the Brits I’ve met in the UK have been great and very welcoming. You’re English I take it? 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧

The ice breaking drills I did in the RM used to be done while wearing ski's, I've been out for a few years now so my question is have they changed that requirement now? Obviously the idea of this is to simulate falling through the ice when in the field. One thing I can say is having done seven arctic winter tours (you have to do this every tour) is that if you think it's cold in the water just wait until you get out.

Warren Lawrence incorrect! The 3 arms of the U.K. Armed Forces are; RAF, Army, Her Majesty’s Naval Service. Her Majesty’s Naval Service is split into 3 separate branches: the Royal Navy (with the RN Nursing Service and the RN Reserve as sub branches), the Corps of Royal Marines (with the RM Reserve and the RM Band Service as sub branches) and the Naval Careers Service. So whilst members of the Corps of Royal Marines are a branch of Her Majesty’s Naval Service they are not members of the Royal Navy and their members are not listed in the numbers/strength of the Royal Navy. Honestly a great description of the respective units. The RM Commandos have always been more of a raid force rather than an assault force, while the US Marines have traditionally focused on assault, while creating separate units within the Corps for more specialist missions like reconnaissance, raiding, UW/FID, etc... For those who might think that raid and assault are the same things, a raid is typically done to hit a very specific, smaller objective, without the intention of actually occupying it. The benefit of a raid in a conventional sense is that it can force an enemy to spread his forces out in an attempt to defend against raids, and if he doesn't, then the raiding force can overwhelm a local garrison, destroy valuable infrastructure and supplies, and inflict damage to morale. Additionally, raiding forces can seize smaller, but strategically valuable positions or assets in support of a larger invasion. An assault, on the other hand, is attacking a strategically valuable objective with the intent of holding onto it. For instance, seizing a city, or an island, and typically when those objectives have been armed and fortified to repeal attempts to seize it. Instances of an assault would be the city of Hue or Fallujah, the invasion of Normandy, or the Pacific amphibious invasion campaigns. Obviously both units can be used for other missions as well, as we saw RM Commandos taking part in the ground invasion of the Falklands, but on the whole, their training, size, and equipment make them best suited for their respective specialties.

the US marines fougth with us in a exersise a couple of weeks ago in norway up north by the russian border. my batalion (2nd batalion) had to give the marines warm clothes since theire clothes dident sustain in the norwegian winter climate. they had clothes for figthing in mountins so they werent that wind or cold rependent. so the clothes froze and was literally torn to peaces by the weather.

Really? Because it doesn't get cold in the U.S. It was -25 F throughout most of the U.S. Midwest a few weeks ago for several days. But keep telling your stories about U.S. military personnel being unfamiliar with cold weather.

That brown patch at the edge of the ice is where the US Marines shat themselves just before they jumped in to the water. Looks like it might be a case of leave the arctic warfare to the US Army's 10th Mountain Division and keep the USMC to sandy beaches in the tropics. Am I right?

Iconoclasticnation USMC has a Mountain warfare school in the Sierra Nevadas. Of course not all Marines go through it. The USMC is big, much bigger than the RMC. Marines fly Hornets and Cobras, guard embassies, storm beaches, man naval ships, conduct recce missions, turn wrenches, drive tanks, etc. The USMC is a complete amphibious fighting force with many many diverse jobs and responsibilities. A better comparison would be USMC Force Recon and Royal Marine Commando. And lets all remember the USMC in Korea less than a decade after the south Pacific. I think their record stands for themselves. I also think US Marines and most Americans respect the British and your fighting spirit. And we recognize that you are one of our closest allies.

@@999torres Britain (home of the industrial revolution) have been fighting and winning wars for a thousand years. America is barely out of nappies. British Mi6 help set up your CIA and advise them on how to do anything from implanting government agents to wiping their arse. we have been spying in ever country for hundreds of years, and have had more influence on the world than any other country. Your speaking our language lets not forget. we have the SAS that make your marines look like toddlers, and the best trained and disciplined soldiers in the world, we also had the largest empire in the history of the world, and we are the size of one US state, all youz have is the numbers and money but lack brains and skill to use them. It was england that cracked enigma and shortend the war by 3 years. America has done fuck all! Shoot first think later killing our soldiers in friendly fire in every war since WW1.
