Even since this game was played in 2018, the growth and improvement of the league has been incredible. Defense is still held back by the salary cap which I actually like, there’s a limit to how much money teens can spend, but even that has improved a bit… The defense not the salary cap. Lionel Messi is Lionel Messi, but even Wayne Rooney said that Lionel Messi won’t be entering the same league that Zlatan Ibrahimović entered.

Honestly, I like the salary cap. Even if it leads to poorer defenders that makes scoring more likely. Which, not enough scoring is usually one of the main American complaints to why they dislike Soccer. I would much rather watch a 4-3 game than 1-0.

@@loganleroy8622 absolutely. Th e salary cap is what makes this league the best one in the world IMO. It could be a bit higher though. I feel like $5.21M is too low now that the league seems stable enough. $20M-$30M seems more reasonable plus the DP’s.

@@gracielynn9623 finding ways to score through great strategy and tactics is the draw for most people in football. That's what makes high scoring clubs exciting. Not the fact that anyone can get past every defence with ease. The Premier League is very high scoring at the moment but that is because of quality coaching and a successful attacking formula that has been introduced through trial by fire.

@@baraenbojassen6611 great. Now explain that to Americans who watch baseball games that regularly finish 7-5, football games that regularly finish 38-35, and hockey games that score triple the average of a soccer game. Not to mention NBA games that finish with both teams scoring over 100 points.

It’s cool that you guys can recognize some of the players in the league! I don’t follow it closely but I know the MLS has a bit of a reputation as a “retirement league” but if it brings more attention to the league I think it’s a good thing. The league has grown tremendously in only the last few years. I’m old enough to remember its inception with only ten teams (with Zlatan’s LA Galaxy being one of them) but now they’re pushing 30! There’s also strong lower leagues being built as well. How awesome would it be to have a full pyramid with promotion/relegation in America! Thanks for giving our version of the beautiful game a watch, boys!

  • @gracielynn9623

It’s so funny you mention promotion/relegation. Divisions 2-4 made up by the USL Championship, USL league one, and USL League two is having an owners vote on instituting pro/rel internally on August 9-11 at the league meetings in Colorado. It’s expected to pass. I’d say that the retirement league status has moreorless become a relic of th e past for MLS. The average age of MLS player is under 26.5 now and in 2022 exports of players under 30 outnumbered imports of players over 30. Imports of players under 30 were also even with imports of players over 30.

@@DNReacts we do have a pyramid, it’s just not currently open. You have to buy your position in each level, the higher up on the pyramid the more it costs. As noted above though divisions 2-4 are currently looking to add pro/rel internally, likely but not definitively meaning that you pay a 3rd or 4th level fee and can go up/down in the pyramid like normal, just not going higher than the second division or lower than the fourth.

Maybe you guys sometime should do a reaction video on the announcers for the games. Soccer has some really colorful ones, and baseball. There was a guy his name was Harry Caray He is the reason for the seventh inning stretch. He used to get everybody up to stretch and sing take me out to the ball game. His famous Catchphrase was holy cow. Another great one was Mickey Redman for the Red Wings. If something was good and they’d ask him he would say It was all that and a bag of chips lol

I am sure you dont have a reason to watch MLS on the regular. but the one thing the MLS does well is absolute beautiful goals. There is a large talent discrepancy with many players there. It allows for the extremely talented players to really create banger goals because they can try/do things a bit more crazier then they would normally try in an Premier game.

I understand why purists dislike the structure of MLS. A) Without promotion and relegation, the consequences of a bad season are confined only to that season. For the record, I would love to see a variation of promotion and relegation in the US pyramid. There's more than enough interest in the game and more than enough clubs to support a respectable five tier system with 20 clubs per tier. I would, however, restructure the way in which clubs are promoted and relegated. The traditional European model lends itself too easily to competitive imbalance - IE; the EPL always goes to one of four clubs, Bayern always wins the Bundesliga, Real Madrid or Barcelona always win la Liga, Celtic or Rangers always win the SPFL, etc. Purists also decry the salary cap, which leads to glaring differences in quality between attacking players and defenders. On that note, I absolutely agree. The counterpoints are: a) that will improve as the cap increases with added revenue from the Apple TV deal, which is ahead of revenue projections; b) salary caps (and spending *minimums* ) foster competitive balance from top to bottom. No one team can simply rely upon bottomless pits of cash in order to build a super club, while others struggle to pay the electric bill. For pure entertainment value, MLS is amongst the best in the world. From week to week, anyone can beat anyone. Because of the season structure, most clubs remain in theoretical contention for the MLS Cup until quite late in the season. In the last 16-18 years, multiple MLS Cup winners are rare - I believe 14 different clubs have won in that span, with only one repeat champion. In other words, everyone has got a chance. I have supported a specific European club all my life - complete with a broad selection of kit and club swag, as well as a prominent tattoo. But, as devoted as I am, I have to confess that the predictability of European leagues is often a bit boring. Maybe we upstart Yanks have a few things to share with the European Old Guard.

@@rlfree40 it serves usually only one of three purposes. It announces the time of the substitution and the players being substituted, it can be used to announce it for player has been disciplined, like a yellow or red card, and at what time that happened Mostly for stat keepers, and because the clock never stops in a soccer game unlike in other sports, any stopages just have to have their time added on at the end. The referee will write the amount of added time in the 45th minute before halftime and in the 90th minute before the end of the game on the whiteboard and they play that number of additional minutes to make up for any stoppages that occurred during the half.
