Scotty won American Idol in 2011 on Season 10 and he was 16 years old then. He is now married to the same lady in this video and has known her since kindergarten. They now have a 1 year old son, named Merrick Avery. He is in my top 5 favorites ever. This song was made into a lifetime movie and “Five More Minutes” earned McCreery a BMI Award for writing One of BMI's Top 50 Country Songs of the Year and it was named One of the Top Ten Songs We Wish We'd Written by the professional membership of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). He's got 6 studio albums now and just keeps getting better and better. He has a ton of great songs and a lot of hit songs as well. You definitely should check out more of his music. Favorite songs 1. I am a 63 year old grandma who stumbled across one of your reaction videos a year or so ago and you are adorable. I admit I don't watch them all but wanted to leave a suggestion for you. At least 2 times a week I watch "The Tenors - Forever Young (Studio Session)" and it brings me to tears every time. Something about it just seems to fill my soul. Their voices are incredible and move me just like many Pentatonix songs do. Check them out!

Scotty writes most of his own songs and he wrote this one after losing his grandfather. You should watch the video for This Is It which has footage from his wedding. He is so authentic and a humble young man. I’m glad to support his art.

Five more minutes? I’m 45. My father died of cancer when I was 18, during my last year of high school (January 1998). I pronounced him for my family. He was a 20 year Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. I miss him every day. His dad, my grandpa, was a 20 year U.S. Navy Veteran. He died Feb 2001 from cancer. I was in Infantry School for the U.S. Army. At least for my grandpa I got to wear my Uniform for his funeral. My grandma tells me that she lost her composure at the funeral home before they loaded his casket into the hearse. I don’t remember doing it, but grandma and the rest of my family said I walked up to the casket and gave grandpa one final salute. Five more minutes with those two great men….wouldn’t be enough time. I’d keep asking for more.

No military story, but my best friend, my father died sept 2001 when i was 16....i miss him every day....now i fear death, im 39, not for death itself, but to avoid putting my two young sons 10 & 8 through what i went through....it seams i got over my fathers death just in time to worry about repeating the pattern

First heard this when my daughter was in high school marching band. As the years went by and she went on to college marching band, the line “….next time I get in here, I’ll have to buy a ticket….”, always got me. Now that my dad’s passed, it has a WHOLE other meaning. ❤️😢. Music is GREAT like that! ❤️

My grandfather, John, passed away June of 2019 of Kidney Failure....he wasnt always the best man, for most of his life, but he was a good grandfather...but i will always remember our last words to him that we will be ok, we will be alright...and then he said 'Hi, Mama' really soft, like he was a little boy again and then he passed away, after we reassured him we would be ok without him

You should hear him sing Your Man by Josh Turner. It was his audition song for American Idol. When I heard him sing it the first time, I was pretty sure he was gonna win the whole thing. He’s got an amazing voice. As my mother said to me before she passed, “We did the best we could, with what we knew. We just have to keep trying.” That was good advice. At almost 70, I just keep trying to do the best I can. Please don’t ever apologize for sharing your feelings with us. They are honest and sincere. That’s a gift you give us as viewers. We appreciate you. ❤

I wish happy memories for everyone affected by this song. True love never fades. I have lost many over the years: my partner, mom, dad, brother, nephew, and friends. Tell people you love them now, because sadly, in a blink of the eye, it may be too late. My partner unexpectedly passed 26 years ago. Five more minutes of knowing that love would be amazing, even if I knew that it would only be to say goodbye. My funeral director friend allowed me and our dog to have five minutes alone with him at the funeral home. We believed animals understood death, and the dog needed to grieve as well. The dogs reaction was amazingly gentle. Years later, the dog passed. I buried his and Bob's ashes together with a new tree - now a large shade tree. My favorite pic of him is displayed in my home with the dog's (Murphy) collar & tags adorning the frame. Another frame holds the two of them under a tree on the same property as the new tree - prophetic or perfect. Perfect to me. Now, in my 60s, I will surely see more loss before my time expires. I share my soul with others and leave nothing unsaid as I know we don't get another chance. Blessings to everyone.

I lost my Dad to a hit and run drunk driver when he was on his morning walk. I was 41 and that was 35 years ago and I think about him everyday. Losing a parent is so difficult. Losing my husband was devastating. The years pass and there are still no answers as to "WHY?"

Anime and country are similar in people like to make wide assumptions about what goes on in them and decide to hate on them without ever partaking. There are so many beautiful stories and messages that are shared that people miss out on because of assumptions. Glad you got to experience this song! Anyways, still recommend Shes my kind of rain by Tim McGraw or I should be sleeping by Emerson Drive.

2 years ago I lost my Brother, Mother and Father with in 18 months of each other. It was hard and miss them.

I’ve never heard this before. Scotty is from my hometown (Garner). Our one claim to fame lol You should see a video of him when he was on American Idol. I think he was still in high school. His first music video was filmed in our high school. He sounded like this when he was 16!

Always love the country songs about grandfathers. Mine passed away suddenly a few months before I graduated high school. He had been in and out of the hospital for health problems multiple times, so we figured it wasn’t going to be too long regardless. But him and my grandma were downsizing their house so it was easier to maintain, and my siblings and I were helping them move stuff in. One night we were done with the loads for the day, said a causal goodbye since we were going to see them again tomorrow, then he had a heart attack driving back to his house and had a head on collision with another car. Never saw him again after that day since he was cremated. Had really wished I had given him an “I love you” before we left that night

Sorry I posted the comment before I got to you asking for a story, so I'll go with my favorite memory that I have with my grandpa. It's a pretty simple one all it is, is my brother and I sitting in his lap while watching a child's film about John Deere tractors Grandpa was a farmer as is my dad and both my brother and I wanted to be farmers with them when we got older. I knew he had a lot of pride in the fact that his grandson's wanted to be farmers just like him.

I found Taylor Swift thru country music. I love the storytelling in country. This is a great song.
