Some states (those with a lively agriculture community) includes DUI/DWI/OWI for riding horses or laden livestock while intoxicated; NV, CA, MI, OH, PA amongst others. And some states actually include a 'Cruelty to Animals/Livestock' rider if you get caught up in it; goes from a misdemeanor to a gross misdemeanor to a Class E felony - depending on the state.

In Baltimore, Maryland, it is illegal to take a lion to the movie theater. In Baltimore, Maryland it is illegal to “mistreat oysters.” In Baltimore, Maryland it is illegal to play professional croquet before 2 p.m. on Sunday. The law also applies to professional quoits. In Maryland, it is illegal to sell condoms from vending machines with one exception: prophylactics may be dispensed from a vending machine only “in places where alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on the premises.” In Caroline County, Maryland, it is a $100 fine or six months in jail for “forecasting or pretending to foretell the future.”

I grew up in Massachusetts, where it is illegal to punch, kick, shoot, or use any blunt instrument on a home invader... But it is legal to defend your home in Massachusetts with a blade of 'not less than two feet in length'... And yes, I always owned a few swords when I lived there... Apparently the law was made back in the days of the American Revolution and was never amended or repealed.

here are some weird laws in my home state of Ohio. Ohio: • According to Ohio law, it's against the law to kill a housefly within 160 feet of a church without a license. • Bay Village: It is illegal to walk a cow down Lake Road. • Cleveland: It's illegal to catch mice without a hunting license! • Clinton County: Any person who leans against a public building will be subject to fines. • In Chillicothe, Ohio it is illegal to throw rice at weddings. • Columbus: It is illegal for stores to sell corn flakes on Sunday. • Fairview Park: It's against the law to honk your horn "excessively". A grandmother was fined for honking her horn twice at her neighbor. • It is legal to throw a snake at someone but it is illegal to shake a snake at someone. • Items left on a tree lawn become city property. • Marion: You cannot eat a doughnut and walk backwards on a city street. • McDonald: Your goose may not paraded down Main Street. • No one may be arrested on Sunday or on the Fourth of July. • You may not run out of gas.

I came here to say this. Not only is that a horribly unnatural life of being kept in a cage and forced into the ring to "fight", they would pull the bears teeth and claws to make it safer for the people. In my state they passed a bill making it illegal to conduct bear wrestling for profit. The bill also banned surgically altering a bear or training it to wrestle people making it a class B felony.

The Mississippi law doesn't ban ingredient listing (which is actually federal required to be listed by the FDA). The law bans towns from forcing restaurants to display calorie counts for all their individual items. Why? Because everyone can easily just Google what food they're ordering if they want to know the calorie count, and forcing a business to provide information that is already openly available to everyone is, objectively, massive government overreach and borderline entrapment. Besides, most restaurants post calorie counts anyway, because it's just good business.

I've never seen one of the Bigfoot people, but I've had rocks thrown at me, and had wood knocking noises -- banging a branch against a tree -- just go on and on forever, to drive me away. There is something, definitely, whatever it is, and many people just can't leave it alone. They feel they won't ever be taken seriously until someone brings in a body, and some go on crusades to prove whatever. And someone is likely to get shot by mistake. So it's illegal in Washington to hunt a Bigfoot, and in Oregon, too. Bring a drone, not a gun, and if you spot one, give chase with a camera, not a hunt. I would love to see extended drone footage.

My dad was born and raised in the state of Oregon. When he was a kid a guy with a trained bear came to town and my dad actually did get to wrestle it. The bear was told by the trainer that my dad was just a cub and he needed to go easy on him. It is by far one of my favorite stories from my dad's childhood. Lots of wild things happened in the 1950s and 1960s.

I once read the city regulations for my home town of Long Beach CA. Their was a rule that at the beach the knees had to covered - no other body part was mentioned! Tere was a rule that every business had to have a water trough in front of it, while at the same limiting where horses could be risen or driven. You needed a kennel license to keep a lion in your backyard. Do not know what was needed if Leo was a house cat or kept in a side or front yard. Also, you needed to have your hippopotamus on a leash if you walk it down the street. When I was 5 the circus came to town and they set up the tents in an empty field a few hundred feet from my house. I looked out the window and was in awe that a man was leading an elephant and a hippo down my street. The elephant was not a leash the hippo was!

Fun fact, a good number of these were made in far flung past, but are just too much a legal headache to get them removed so they’re often just ignored or have other laws that have precedent over them. My favorite example is in Maine, where state law allows (and to a point encourages) you be armed with a shotgun when you go to church, so that you may be prepared in the event of an attack from Native Americans.

@MoreAdamCouser Yep.. And the Bear was DRUNK! I wrestled it at the Coastal Carolina fair in the 1980s. I'm a big boy. I played offensive line in college(football). I was the 4th and last person to wrestle the bear. If you beat the bear, you won $50,000.00... I finished 3rd in the unlimited weight class in wrestling in High School and thought I had a Chance. The bear was drunk and I was WRONG! Between each "match" the handler would give the bear 2 or 3 Miller Beers, that he would chug in seconds and throw the bottle down. By the time I got in the cage, Mr. Bear had polished off a 12 pack and was getting more and more aggressive with each bottle. He was a MEAN drunk. My friends tell the story to everyone we meet. Well, except for Delaware, the rest of the world regularly sells pet hair to spinners who spin it into yarn. Unfortunately, most knitters don't realize how stinky those knitted pet hair items can become when wet with sweat or rain. In my little western ranching town in the 60s, we raced our horses on Main St all the time. The Police Chief had a stopwatch and was the judge. Frog legs are delicious. We hunted them like crazy as kids and brought home dozens of pounds each time.

That thing about 1872 licensing act is just a law against public drunkenness. Yes it applies to pubs, but any law against public drunkenness will typically apply to anywhere except a home unless there are specific and exact prohibitions. More importantly it also means that if it didn't apply there would be an odd situation where its legal to get drunk inside the pub and then if you walk outside you are breaking the law. That would cause a lot of problems especially when the pubs closed.

This law is almost certainly not true. 1) There is literally no record of such a law having been on the books, no statute mentioned in any article claiming it exists, no trail to follow. 2) There are no records of court cases relating to such a law or even the topic of Donkeys and Bathtubs, which means yet again no trail to follow. 3) The story behind the alleged law's existence never happened. As the story goes there was a flood near Kingman Arizona in 1924 that swept a Donkey who had been sleeping in the tub down river and the town expended a lot of resources to try and rescue it so a law was passed in order to prevent such an event from happening again. However the only floods in Arizona in 1924 were in southern half of the state. There are similar stories claiming such a law exists in Georgia and Oklahoma also claiming that in 1924 a Donkey was sleeping in a tub in those states only to be swept away as well.

Okay so I'm going to rain on the parade and debunk a couple of these. Bear in mind these are just the ones I know are not actually laws. In Connecticut there is no law relating to pickles bouncing when dropped and whether or not they are legally pickles. The law people cite for its existence (the Connecticut Uniform Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Act) never mentions Pickles or Bouncing and was in fact a law under which a pair of people selling rotten pickles in 1948 were charged with violating when they were arrested. The bouncing pickles test was something that was used to test whether or not the pickles had rotted. While ordering a pizza for someone else does violate the law in Louisiana, the law itself never specifies anything about ordering Pizzas. Ordering someone else a Pizza they do not want just happens to fall under the blanket of Louisiana Statute 1468.8 as trying to force someone to receive goods or services they did not want is illegal and can result in a fine of $500.

Obviously, these laws are not enforced, since I can't think of any stores with a hitching post, and most prople do not smile in public.

I do not remember the states, but in one, you cannot tie an aligator to a parking meter, and in another, a woman cannot wear a corset while riding a horse. I'd like to know what generated the laws. Diane, using Joe's tablet

My favorite one of all is this one I saw couple years ago. I can’t remember what town it was for, but it is illegal for a woman to drive a car on Sunday unless her husband is walking in front of the car waving a giant white flag.

Frog legs are delicious, so long as they are not farm raised. Farm raised frog legs taste like chicken because that's what they are fed. Wild Frog legs (we're not talking tiny ones the large frogs) are delicious. so is alligator tail meat, same thing applies, a lot of the farmed meat taste of chicken because that's what they feed them. still good though.

In Buffalo, NY there was a law, still in the books, that made oral sex illegal ! Now how they would enforce that one is a mystery to me! Lol this was years ago..haven't checked if that law still exists....
