I've said it before: There's so much heavy talent in this video that it's a wonder the stage didn't collapse. And the song is as gorgeous and moving now as it was like 50 yrs ago.
Great artists don't step on each other - they become one. Winwood and Clapton played on the original version of the song when they were both with Blind Faith. The little smiles they give each other tell the story.
Winwoods voice is so unique and just amazing.
Fil, having worked in the music industry ,I find your analysis always direct and informative without being overly technical. I really appreciate what you do.I would recommend this to any would be musician to understand some fundamentals of their craft.
I think too many ppl forget how talented a guitar player Winwood is. He was considered somewhat of a prodigy in his youth.
I'm old enough to remember buying the Blind Faith LP in 1969. Now 53 years on there's still something about Clapton and Winwood together that gives me uncontrollable goose-bumps. It's a match made in heaven to my ears.
One of my all time favourites is this version of this beautiful song
There’s a great acoustic version of Winwood singing this near a fireplace.
Steve Winwood, one of the geniuses of my generation, well, yah, ignoring Higher Love. Never hear his name mentioned with greats from the 60s and 70s but he sure as shit belongs. This is a killer song. These players make it even better. This performance had more feeling than the Blind Faith original. A beautiful performance. Thanks for sharing.
My favorite song from Blind Faith only album. Remember it from childhood. Play drums on it every band I was ever in. Steve Winwood is underrated as the guitarist only because he so excellent on vocals and keyboards. The section where Eric was staring at Steve’s left hand so he could match what he was playing in a supportive way brought tears to my eyes.. thanks Phil another great choice
DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS
When you said Clapton only plays fast when the track needs it, I was reminded his moniker "Slowhand" is for a reason. Sweet analysis, btw. You're right, it never sounds muddy. It breathes all the way through.
...I've talked with Derek Trucks ....one of the most humble , engaging ....jst the nicest guy you'll ever meet ....he's definitely here for the long haul.....ps nice job Wings "
Nice to hear you talking about the music and this time no dazzling guitar wizardry. So important to have a good song before you can play great solo's.
I’ve watched this video so many times, and it never gets old! ❤️ Love, Love, Love all of these musicians!
Just found you and I am absolutely LOVING your reviews! Love that you cover all genres of music's greatest guitarists! 👍👍👍
A favorite performance!! Thanks for reviewing.
I love this elegant song! It's wonderful to hear a big gang of talent sound like a band that's been together for years. This has been a favorite video for awhile, it's so interesting to hear the breakdown of what makes it SO wonderful.
God, what a powerful song. Beautifully played. Thanks Fil! You're the greatest thing on YT
Just found this after asking you to add Steve to your video collection. This is one of the best! Thank you Fil!
