He didn't surrender because, cearly, you weren't doing enough damage. you should have upgraded your 26-gunned 6th rate sloop with the 18" guns and used HE. Could have saved weight by reducing your Mast Planking to Oak III. Add some Spar Torpedo launchers for good measure.

@@TheHistoryGuy In hindsight in the first battle (with the Mercedes), should you have had the Ceres board her while you dealt with the Galga? When I amass more doubloons I will buy the game, and want to get some tactical insights. Also, would firing at the rigging have worked to immobilize the Mercedes?

HE is most effectiv with plunging fire he should have used AP to take advantage of the flatter trajectory.

It looks nice enough... but there's never enough SMOKE in these games. That's one of the defining attributes of paintings and movies depicting naval battles of this era... vast clouds of smoke. I also wish there was a way to get down to deck level, perhaps even walk around. It's something I've always wished World of Warships did, too.

picatdim naval action had some of the best atmosphere. The smoke got huge and thick and if you drift far off from the main battle. The distant sound of cannons foing off was phenomenal. Plus it just looked good. Its a shame they kept restarting the game and ruining the player base

I guess it's that the smoke would make the games difficult to play.

History Guy Gaming. Lord Nelson was shot on the decks of victory by a sniper in the enemy's rigging. He died below shortly afterward. The bullet went through his chest and I think injured his lung that caused his lung to fill up with fluid. There is a video on you tube I watched about nelson but I forgot what it was since it was years ago.

This looks very interesting and keen to get a crack at playing it myself. From this mission, even on easy levels, key note is to man/defend what you've captured, be that on sea or land.

It shows you can change shot type. When up close use chainshot to take out the masts then grapeshot to take out crew.

I love Total war empire but this game caught my eye for sure. Back to shooting France! YEEET

TW Empire is a decent enough game in it's own right, but TW Napoleon is superior were combat is concerned, Especially the sea battles looked a lot better. If the devs of Ulrimate Admiral: Age of Sail could bring it up to that level i would definetly buy it.

Oh, land combat is here too. That's pretty cool, I knew they obviously have that in ultimate general, almost thought this would be nothing but sea based at first. Might actually pick this one up

It's funny though seeing a company of 90 men discharge their muskets at close range at another of 30 men, only to kill just 3-4. I was expecting something like at least double or triple that number.

@@meilinchan7314 Its kind of historical in some ways, muskets weren't the most accurate always. But I guess it's one of those simulation oddities that is on some randomizer

Thanks for the play through, this game for land combat is the pits...love seeing units with 50% casualties that have surrendered just magically reappear. Because that happens...

you can klick on one of your warships and there will be a boarding symbol

This one looks far better than Civil war. Good to see that Game labs are able to make such a deep game. I wonder what they will develop after Dreadnoughts and Age of sail.

When I get in tight like this and I'm wanting to capture the ship, I switch to grape shot and de-crew the enemy ship. Using solid shot is going to put too many holes in it to safely capture later on.

Looks like a really fun game. Love the naval stuff.

nice surprise.... i love that they " kinda" stayed with the option selection like UGCW.. this have changed my whole view of it , i wasnt super hyped . bc UA Dreadnoughts have stolen all my time i bought both games.. and chose to let this rest until further UNTIL TODAY.. im hyped again ...

Nelson had some great luck shot in t he arm forcing it to be amputated A close cannonball strike into brick destroying one eye and a bullet whilst stood on the deck of victory all his medals on and in the uniform of an admiral shot through the lung by an enemy sniper and then kissed by mr hardy

This is looking to be a good game. If you like the UGCW series this is a really pleasant upgrade from that. I wish they could implement a sandbox world map for the campaign. perhaps in the future. question, how can you make more troop ships? i bought a marine officer but cant add him to my ships. thoughts?

It looks like Napoleon Total War finally has a successor to be the greatest sailing era naval battle game ever made.

One thing about the ships at the start - they're ships from the early 1800s (you can tell by the style of painting, the rig, the decorations on bows and stern lights), but it's supposed to be 1760s/70s. I guess they just based it all off the Victory.

@@theunicornwar7065 you mean gang banged by the 7th coalition. Yes UK like to call allies as they fear Napoléon to mass draft a new grand army from nowhere and redo all except Russia part. Preventive battle at waterloo. It's in french textbook. He has no choice but to battle earlier to deny forces merging but prussians did come late to the party but because french cav army didn't come too they got flank attacked. And being 110000 vs 70000 French is quite hard as it's a 1:2 odd in offensive battle.

I thought that what happened was a double cutting of the enemy's line, by Nelson's column , and by Collingwood's Column, followed by a defeat in detail of the middle and rear of the enemy line before the Van could return

Boarding as each ship you capture gets you prize money

I think you should have changed ammo to grape shot or tried to destroy the sails, it may have been a quicker victory.

morale of the story is board any ship that has surrendered.

It was always thought to be a sharpshooter, but, apparently there is some evidence that the shot might have been a ricochet.

I have heard both stray and sharpshooter. Either way, he was taken down by a musket.

I saw another video of this where the guy lost Ceres, and I beleive it was used against him.

The one thing that i fear with this game is that the ship mechanics are straight up copied from Empire: Total war and Napoleon: Total war. and i wouldn't be surprised if CA and Sega launch a legal challenge against them for that.

I don't think you can really copy the mechnaics, in a pure technical sense since they use a different engine. And while they are similar in places, just look at the ammo typ selection, most of those are pretty obvious choices for how to do things. Imperial glory was also similar in places and didn't get sued.

Wait, there's only two campaigns? *Sad French Noises* Also, it seems like if a larger ship gets way too close to a smaller ship, their shots fly over while their targets actually hit. So I would suggest pummeling at them from further away, especially if you don't want boarding actions.

You should bring all your marines (red soldiers) to fight your enemy. To protect the city you have taken, bring a squad of sailors (blue soldiers).

I find the battles in UG are much better in giving you a feel as if it were a huge battle. And in CW you have more flavor as you spend so much time building your army if youre into order of battle customization. The graphics are 2D but i didnt really mind because the battles are so much better. TW has the dynamic campains but UG stays fun throughout wheras TW gets boring for me in the mid and late game. Id say if youre a fan of the time period get UG

I have absolutely, positively, never heard it pronounced the way you're describing. Went to the wikipedia pages for Ceres and it also says it's pronounced the way I said it. Guess it must be an accent thing or something.

How realistic is this? In the accounts I've read, the British would often try to board enemy ships. But what you see here is a bunch of sailors on deck with nothing to do in the midst of a battle!

After his amazing Civil War game, I'm afraid this looks quite disappointing and arcadeish. I was hoping he'd do a civil war like game with the Napoleonic era, but greater in scope :(

The US navy? Really? Before that of the vastly more impactful Spanish/French, etc? Has to be a marketing thing. Given the vast majority of noteworthy conflict in the later stages of the Age of Sail was ultimately a contest between the British, French, Spanish and Dutch with its grand strategic crescendo ending in 1805 I find it extremely laughable that the designers included the US. It should be like some late stage DLC bolt on not a flagship campaign.

The main creator, darth, is american or at minimum has a keen interest and strong knowledge base in american military history. Thats why he went from ultimate general gettyburg to civil war and then the native american game. Puts forward what he knows well first, then adds the extra that requires newer research.

this is a shit game, the user doesnt know what to do if u havnt played naval games before, tutorials are pretty bad aswell, and the campaign is too hard and it doesnt explain enought to the user, u have to guess your way. Even typos is common in the game
