This woman's got her priorities straight, its uplifting to see that someone can get caught up in all of hooplah of Hollywood and still keep her focus on what she truly wanted without compromising herself.

She really had higher education and acting wasn't her first choice, BUT what makes me admire her is that she holds all that privilege and still try to change an industry where she could profit from if she "followed the script" and stayed quiet. Even if feminism is a popular topic right now she would be seen as "difficult to work with" for saying these things.

What’s weird is Another Earth is in my top 10 favorite (I have a silly cinema degree) and I’ve only watched it twice, but it stays with you. She makes intense, wonderful projects.

She is so right about all this. There is a lack of films/TV series that make you think. Everything is so cliche, a formula for money not good quality media. I can't wait for her future work.

If only they knew thats what the majority of us really want to entertain ourselves with! There were over a million people that signed a petition to HBO in the early 00's to get Carnivalle back to finish. It was brilliantly written for 6 seasons. But they cancelled it after 2, just like this one. OA was again, my favorite TV series. I crave so much more of OA. What happened when they all went to the other dimension? I hope some small Indie investor picks it up! But Brit is so beautiful. I love her even more now that I hear her talk ! I had high expectations (god thats bad) but she far exceeded all of them! Shes so cool

Despite being a huge fan of The OA, I went into watching this interview series thinking surfacey things about her clothes and her hair and where she shops, expecting her to be pretentious, etc. Instead, I've been completely blown away that someone so young can have this much wisdom. I am at a point in my life where I'm starting to feel a lot of the things she's already been through, so this is both relatable and inspiring. She somehow frames and explains things in a way that takes a lot of the fear out of major life decisions. I feel a little saner and a little braver after watching this.

She needs to never stop being a creative storyteller. Every single thing she’s said in these interviews from your channel are so clear to see on The OA. From the beauty of working with other people to not compromising your integrity. Her mind is so beautiful.

I'm so thankful for powerful, smart women like her. And thankful in general for people who follow their own path and listen to their own voice! Seriously inspired.

How amazing is Brit Marling? Been a huge fan of hers ever since Another Earth.

I remembered when I was 20 years old, waiting for another earth to come out, and it was a big disappointment cause it wasnt sci fi, it was more like a boring drama, now Im 29 years old and Im the biggest fan of Brit Marling, and I think she's like the Tarantino of this century, all her posterior works are a masterpiece! it's kind of contradictory my point of view xD but i really didnt like another earth :/

I saw Sound of My Voice in 2012 but I didn't find Another Earth until The OA! To think they made that movie happen with NO money is impressive as hell.

WHO IS THIS WOMAN? She is F***ING AMAZING. I've watched 3 of these little 3-7 min. clips and am awed by her loveliness, her intelligence, and simply her good sense in FOLLOWING HER GUT, listening to her OWN voice (in one of the clips she talks about NOT TAKING ANTI DEPRESSANTS and I was so bowled over by her simple intelligence and explanation, I burst into tears), instead of bowing to all the sh*t people tell you/propagate/shove down your throat. Hallelujah! "Go, Brit!!"

Just finished the OA part II and had to see the brilliant mind behind this fantastic creation. I truly believe in the multiverse and how the series depicted it’s realism was stunning and so much fun to watch. LOVE HER WORK!!!

Just binged watched the OA & had to know who this writer is that gave me such a heart rush from this multi-layered masterpiece! Wowzers, Intelligent, Refreshing, Passionate, my new hero!

3:12 “How many moral compromises can you make before you start to chip away at the thing in you that is even worth giving?” This affected me - it’s deep and important. Something to meditate on as a society and individually.

I recently finished watching the entire OA Season series 1 and must say that creativity stands out in aspect of the Cinema Arts - creativity which includes: imagination, talent and perhaps most important when rating a movie, its believability - I'm looking forward to the next season !

Brit, you're an amazing and inspirational talent. Two talents missing in our world today. Keep following your "gut" instinct and sharing it with the world at large. Many of us are listening.🌻

This clip is the best for me that I've seen on this channel. I relate to what she's saying so completely. I've always felt like I was 'wrong' for feeling the way that I do or just scared.

Just some time ago I felt like watching "Another Earth" again, and I did for few times. The reason of my personal attraction to the movie is the unspeakable energy behind it, and this energy also is expressed in the style of this movie. The expansive questions and possibilities that are shown there are well-understandable. And here we go. I relate in so many ways to Brit. And I totally understand those absolutely unpleasant experiences where the person feels it's impossible to fit in, tries, feels terrible and wants to do what feels right from the inside. This is what I did too. It feels very unstable, it looks unique and that's why there's nothing to rely on. But living while trying to fit in a narrow box is not life at all. I'm going to share one of my poems in the second comment. I'm sure sensitive and smart people like Brit can relate.

I love the OA. I always assumed it was based on the movie "Sound of My Voice," which essentially has the same exact premise and stars Brit Marling in a very similar role.

Great interview. I love Brit Marling. i've seen all her movies. love her ideas and the way she thinks. Smart talented awake person. She is so not a sheep. One can learn alot from her. Thanks for this interview. She is exactly how I thought she would be. Grounded and smart and following her authentic path.

What amazing points she makes. I am not nearly as eloquent as she is but I have always had the mindset that we need more creativity and storytellers. Many people sit back and complain there aren’t enough parts for certain people in movies but this can also relate to the real world where we need to create a place for ourselves in it. It is so hard to do when you are not creative or as intelligent but change doesn’t come unless we make change.

I could easily pirate these shows, but Netflix will keep collecting my subscription fee because I appreciate how it goes towards funding these projects and the talent behind them.

She has one of the best vocabularies of any actress in Hollywood. She deserves an Oscar for her work.

This is such an important and realistic message. Brit is so eloquent and honest and the integrity she has for her creative projects is inspiring.

It's official. I'm so in love with Brit Marling. Her beauty, of course. But her soul, her honesty, her intelligence, her hope, her potential to change the direction of tv/film/etc i.e. storytelling, her gentleness, her is it innocence, and on and on. Binged OA for sure. Have you seen her commencement speech at Georgetown? Her seeming dismissal of fame and riches and remaining true to herself. Wow! We desperately need more like her.

Absolutely true. As a producer and director it's been my experience that you have to be in control of the production from start to finish and collaborate with the best people you can find. For every script that makes it into production there are 10000 sitting collecting dust in a pile having been discarded by someone who's vision is not your own. If you have an artistic vision be prepared to pay in pain, sweat, tears, time, embarrassment and yes, cash. Don't try to do it alone though. Find people that are reliable, talented and have great integrity. You may think that you will disappear in the sea of sameness, but it's not true. Talent and integrity are a rare combination and shine like a diamond in LA, NY, London or anywhere. Don't lose hope.

I did like what I just saw-EXCEPT for the part where you cut her off while she was talking, dude. I know you didn't mean it. You just got excited by what she was saying. But I was really interested in hearing her talk about turning her focus more towards storytelling, and what that was like. Just something to keep in mind for us viewers, who love to learn from genius guests like Brit, and want to hear them out. Otherwise, you're doin great.

Brit rebelled against the traditional Hollywood typecasting of women. She dared to reject those crappy small roles of what I would call the magician's assistant: looking pretty and helping the main (male) star of the show. She chose to create stories with complex female characters in narratives that were cerebral and meaningful to her. In response, she became something of a pariah, and studios never considered her for more mainstream films. I can just imagine some Harvey Weinstein type leering at her headshots, scratching his head and wondering why this 'pretty girl' had the audacity to reject the part of murdered cheerleader #3. So Brit will most likely never be in a superhero movie or a rom-com. Instead, she will continue to carve her own path, and weave beautiful profound stories that make us think and move us. Maybe the OA is actually Original Artist.
