Apparently, I have been planting garlic too early; around Halloween. We will definitely be waiting a bit longer next time. Many thanks to You and King Tuck.❤🎶🌹🙏⭐😍💜❤️

Our local Neighborhood Market has a bag of corn husks as customers shuck their corn. Would that make a good mulch for the garlic? Would it need to be cut first?

The longer you grow the same garlic in progressive yrs the more acclimated it becomes, just like saving seed. Same for bunching onions. It's common sense not rocket science. Yes I've been growing plants 50+ yrs . Mulch well, fertilize properly and water well in the spring and early summer.

How important would you say the mulch is? It's my first year gardening so I'm doing a lot of research right now

That’s NOT “common” sense for someone new to gardening, even for some who have experience growing veggies. Thanks for sharing.

@@Navajosunagreed. It was common sense when it was more common to grow some of your own food. Sadly that isn’t done as much anymore. This city girl needs all the good advice she can get! My garden is getting better and I’m growing more of my own food every year. I appreciate all the instruction I get from you tube videos.
Sometimes, you just blow my pea-pickin' mind. I love that you're always pushing the envelope. The other benefit of keeping that hardneck garlic in the ground - is the shorter shelf life. So rather than harvesting and letting it go bad, ergo useless, leave it - and regrow. Also - haven't done justice to Tuck. What a heart dog, garden guardian hero. I LOVE seeing him. Thanks JP.

You make a good point about shorter storage on hard necks...when I get to the point where I actually plant enough garlic to last late enough in the year to go bad I may switch to James' method. Who knew I need 100 heads to last the year?? 😆

Funny story about my garlic. Planted some last fall but nothing grew in the spring. After a bunch of heavy rain now I see garlic growing lol. At first I had no clue what it was but then I remembered I planting them last year lol
Blessings to all!
What an AWESOME idea! Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us. Give Tuck an extra hug for me.
Thank you so much for this idea! Question...the ones you left in the ground, did you cut off all the top growth at some point to allow for the new growth or is that necessary? Love your channel and love Tuck!! 🐶❤
Tuck is so cute, shinny healthy coat and great garden quality control worker😉
Good morning James and Tuck ❤. Interesting video
this is not the lazy way. it is working the smart, intelligent way! it also ensures you grow pure, healthy garlic. great garden results. thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. 🤍🕊
I did that last year for 2023 year in Sydney Australia with Egyptian Hard Neck Garlic😊 Ready to harvest November/December ❤
It's more practical to take the same amount of time and separate them before winter. They get smaller when growing that close.
We love Tuck he is an awesome puppy, and thank you for the information 🙏👌
LOVE this!! I've never seen anyone else do this - thank you for the tip!
❤ Tuck! ❤
Thank you James and Tuck ! 😀 Hugs to you both!

Good stuff! And as always ❤❤❤❤ for Tuck! 😊
Wow thank you so much James! I am going to do this from now on! Planting my garlic this weekend
Very useful! Thanks! And sending ❤❤❤❤❤❤ for Tuck!
Great to know. I’m also glad you are in my zone because it’s easier for me to relate. I unfortunately live in an area where the heat and mosquitoes are lethal during the summer. So it really messed up my gardening this past June-Aug this year. I’m going to make sure I get my garden ready for the winter and the early spring time this fall. Thanks for always giving such great advice.
I'm going to try this with some left over garlic bulbs I've still got from winter. Thanks James! Great growing tip.
Thank you fo4 sho2ing the over winter process. I live in Canada and knowing this could help my garlic to grow better.
My garlic is currently pushing up through the snow. Hoping by May to have a great harvest. Thanks for all the info ❤️
❤❤❤❤❤ for Tuck and another great video!!
Sharing your garlic planting tips was very helpful. Your soil looks rich and loamy. Thank you so much for this valuable information; it's beneficial for my farm.🎉❤
Thank you for the info! I just planted my garlic in Northeast PA. I hope the harvest is good next year.

That was interesting. I will be trying this tip now. Let's see how it turns out later. 😊
I'm south of you in zone 7a just outside of DC. I'm trying your new method this year. Looks so easy. Thanks! (Hi Tuck, cutie pie.)
Great idea! I have some garlic on their third year in ground because I planted them amongst other stuff and forgot about them😂! Love seeing Tuck help in the garden! He's doing a great job! ❤❤❤
I am going to try this next year. I just planted my garlic from Baker Creek today. I can't wait. I didn't plant any last year and we definitely missed not having any. Love watching you and Tuck. I always learn something new.
Awesome info! My four year old loves your videos, especially when you harvest zucchino rampicante!
Thank you for making this video. I tried growing garlic but I didn't get any the next year...I think I waited too long to pull it. Love seeing Tuck too. He's so cute. ❤️❤️❤️
Incredible. I love this method and will be trying this myself. I just ordered bulbils as well and am going to give those a shot both indoor and outdoor over the next couple of years. I am going to have a ton of fun little experiments going on!
You are so awesome, I have learned so much from you lately!!! 😊❤!!!
Hearts for Tuck! ❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks for the tip!
❤ I love you Tuck. So glad to see you are getting a break from your collar. I'm sure it feels good. My dog (Happy) has to take breaks from her collar as well. ❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing. I am excited to try to grow Garlic Onions, and some Peppers (all varieties).
WOW thank you so much for this video. I went on an unexpected vacation just before my summer garlic was ready. When I came home, the tops of most of them had come off and I couldn't find them in my overgrown garden. I was hoping this is what would happen this spring. I'm so relieved. I'm going to go out this week (after 10F temps) and move mine around like you did, but mine are already pretty big despite the ground barely being thawed.
I’m in zone 9, so waiting a bit to plant my garlic from botanical interests. Just got my sow with the flow hoodie today. So soft and cozy ❤️❤️❤️ Plus ❤️❤️❤️for Tuck
I did this on accident this year by forgetting some bulbs :). I replanted the large cloves. The small cloves that were too little to plant tasted great in chopped up in soup (greens and all!).
You and Epic Gardening uploaded on same topic on same time wow👍 I love your video's
James, you are a genius!! I’m getting ready to plant garlic in zone 7a….I’m going to do as you say!!! Give sweet Tuck a hug for me! I’ve always wanted a Yorkie…..right now I have a Chihuahua and she’s 14 and having seizures. Her days are numbered but I adore her! Give lovin’s to Tuck for me! I can’t wait to plant garlic!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!
Cheers for the tips, I always get my varieties mixed up once I harvest so I never remember which varieties I liked the most, I think I'll follow your lead with a single bed dedicated to garlic and leave one bulb in each section, it'll also help to see which varieties do best in my zone over a few years
I did the same method last year leaving the littlest bulbs in the ground for the year harvesting 2 years later as huge bulbs. This year I’m trying to do the same thing with ginger in the greenhouse. 😊
That's a great tip! I'm definitely going to be doing that in the future.
Thanks James, just planted mine yesterday always from store bought locally grown sold by the pound for $3.99 at shoprite. Works well for me, nj zone 7❤Hi Tucky😊
Great!! Thank you for sharing this. Just in time as I harvest my garlic. Lovw your channel. Hi Tuck!!
❤'s For Tuck and James❤ I grow 8 different varieties, including Music, and this is the 3rd year I've left a few bulbs of each in the ground to grow on. It works and is a good backup plan. Thanks for sharing.
I ordered some hard neck garlic from Keenes, I'll be planting it next week.
Great video! We are about to plant garlic for the first time, on our homestead.
I actually did this with all of my garlic this year because we had some pretty bad drought and none were very big! Good to know they'll be ok and I can just transplant them!
❤4 tuck. I've been trying to grow garlic for 2 years unsuccessfully. Also trying elephant garlic this year. Fingers crossed
Awesome video! Watching this now in March, but I feel like I followed your guidelines already last November when we planted our first ever garlic. Covering it with leaves, using fertilized soil and all that.. I really hope that we get something out of it. We've had -23 degrees Celcius (-10F) this winter and I hope that hasn't hurt the cloves. Normally we don't have that cold, but of course the weather hit extremes when we started our garden 😂😋 Also I love that you have subtitles, sometimes you speak extremely fast and it is hard to follow 😋 Don't change how you talk, no worries there, but I love that you have subtitles so even I can follow along 😋 ❤
Love the new hoodie!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰😍for Tucky the young king!
I've got a half-box that I left int he ground for 3 years, and it's thick with bulbs. Harvest a few, leave the rest, and it just keeps going.
Amazing work ❤❤
As a bit of an experiment, last fall I bought 3 garlic bulbs at my local grocery store. I broke two of them up into individual cloves, and planted them. Covered the bed with a layer of compost and a layer of wood chips, and just eft them to their own. Four months and a couple good snowstorms later, I've got about 40 garlic plants coming up. Maybe I'll pick up some good seed garlic this year, but for now I'm just tickled to be getting some decent results for my efforts. And yes, I live in a northern area, so the softneck garlic from the store was perfect at this stage.
Love Tuck!!! ❤❤❤
I have some garlic sprouting in my kitchen... time to plant it eh.
Nice video, thanks for sharing ❤️❤❤❤❤
So, I had to do this with my garlic. I thought I'd gotten all my garlic out of the ground but I had so many sprouting. I transplanted about 75 and then had 18 music and 30 purple glazer that I'd purchased to start this season.
Tuck must be so healthy eating all that organic vegetables from your garden. I planted garlic but don’t know how long I’m supposed to wait before harvest? When should I harvest? Thank you for all your videos, I watched all of them 😊
James can you please explain what month of the season you are talking about in your videos for people in other parts of the world. if you say late November early December, I've then got to go and find out which part of which season it is in jersey to work out when that time of the year it will be in Australia, thanks mate, I really appreciate and love your videos, I'm always telling my friends and family what you and Tuck are up to ❤
I ordered some organic garlic softneck that just came. Haven't put it in the ground yet because I've been tied up canning. Glad to know I have more time before I plant them! I'm in zone 6 I believe. Not the deep South. Lower VA. I've never planted garlic before so I hope it works out! Hey Tuck!! Love ya! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I dug up wild garlic that was mild and so delicious, planted some and Every year I have Awesome garlic...free!!!

Hey there! I have 2 quick questions, but first I wanted to share that I love your videos! I've been watching them for over a year now. I love they way you convey the information you are providing to your viewers. You deliver it in a way that is straight forward and avoids confusion for the viewer. Some channels that do similar content seem to leave holes in the information they are providing, which leaves the viewers with more questions. So thank you for being thorough! Also, Tuck is so adorable, and I love that he makes appearances in all of your videos! Such a cutie! My first question is, when planting cloves in the fall for a harvest the following late spring or early summer, is it necessary to water them throughout the winter at all (and if so, how often),, or do you not water them? If you have shared this info, somehow I missed it, and I'm sure that if I want to have it succeed, I need to do this the right way. My second question is, can the fall planting of cloves be achieved in a raised bed or will that cause them to get and stay too cold during the winter, and kill them? Thank you!
Thanks for this very informative video! It clarified so much for me. So often I heard I should plant in September or October. i agree that November or December is better here. Zone 5b.
Excellent video! Thanks!
I like this idea, though I don't know if I have enough room to leave them in there . I grow mine over winter in Indiana. Last year I also chose to lay plastic mesh over my mulch, so the squirrels and birds wouldn't keep pulling them up.
This is a great idea! The only downfall I see is that I like to choose the biggest cloves for planting. It really does make a difference for next year's crop health and size. In my experience, you can't always determine the size or health of the bulbs from the tops
Very informative video, i want to plant some garlic doon!
I do have the value from your video. Thanks friend❤
I planted soft neck garlic last fall and it doesn’t have a lot of green growth. I planted it in September. Was that too early? I’m in zone 7a. Should I dig it up or leave it until June? You have the best channel for vegetable gardeners. Thank you
I love planting garlic.
Lovely ❤❤
