thank you! You just saved me a big repair bill. My mower would start but only roll a foot or two and die out like it wasn't getting gas. Opened the hood and saw a tiny tear in the tube. Touched it to verify that was what I was seeing and it tore more. Really tender. Waiting for the mail to drop the tube off any minute now. While I'm at it I'll change the fuel pump and filter too. Mine is an older D130 but essentially the same. The repair shop would have charged me $135 an hour plus travel time and parts so I could have been nailed for nearly $300 for a very simple thing.

I also have an LA145 and it has been hard to start. I have since replaced the fuel pump and this vacuum hose. While I was at it, I replaced the fuel filter, and spark plugs too. Of course after doing so the mower did take about 20~30 or cranking (far, far less time starting than prior to replacing the parts) before it started. Then a week went by and I try to start it up again and the struggle is real. Several attempts of cranking (4 to 6 times of long periods of cranking) before it finally started (runs great). Yes, the choke was one during initial start. I testing the fuel flow while cranking and I see fuel is pumping. Would you do a video of cleaning the carbonator on a LA145?

WD40 is the 40th try at a Government Issued Water Displacement formula. It's very close to kerosene. I've had years of chemistry courses at the U of F, which is why I made my comment. Care to address the actual topic? Petro-based oils will degrade and dissolve petro-based rubber in a reaction that is known as like-dissolves-like we learned in the very first semester of General Chemistry I. WD40 is a petro-based oil in it's original formula, but like I said, they now make a version that is silicone oil, which one should not use on silicone rubber hoses, but should use on petro-based rubber just fine.
