Watching these scenes kinda changed my opinion of Lilian. She really didn’t stick up for her longtime best friend at all. She pretty much allowed Helen to passive aggressively bully Anne. Additionally, there’s no way she wouldn’t know about Helen badgering Anne about wedding plans and belittling her constantly. Lilian was pretty clearly leading a totally different life with her fiancé and Helen for quite sometime while excluding Anne from it entirely. It’s no wonder Anne felt so awkward and insecure. I consider Megan (Melissa McCarthy’s character) to be the most caring and loyal out of that whole cluster.

I'm glad they toned down Helen just a little bit in the final cut because it's more fun to wonder if she is actually plotting against her or if Annie is overreacting.

I find the sound engineering fascinating on this movie. Very intentional to enhance the tension and discomfort to make viewers feel awkward and self-aware like Annie. As seen in the nearly unbearably loud and deliciously drawn out almond chewing scene, and in 5:28 with the hollow plastic bangles that don't quite jingle like expensive jewelry would and her defeated swat on the headrest when her best friend lets her comfort herself alone... the mic had to be pretty close above their heads to get the heavy breathing (or audio engineer tuned it up) in their post-game farewell at 3:57-4:05.... Trying to execute a graceful sayonara to your rival while you are trying not to show your physical weakness, its something so relatable and brings me back to petty playground drama over rules and who/how one wins! In the adult world, you have to grin and bear it with people you dislike breathing next to you so these details speak to me a lot. Edit: also to remind viewers how broke (from her failed bakery business) her old car is not just busted, but doesn't have AC and is why you hear the road with windows down! 6:41 stuff I never noticed until rewatching bloopers on KZread at 1am 😂

I've been friends with one over 20 years. She has really tried to be more authentic as she's maturing, but her need for projecting perfection overrides most of her life. You just take her for where she is and sometimes let her get away with her b.s. It took her over 20 minutes to tell the story of how her daughter had been fired from her job. She has a good heart and tries to be a good person, like the rest of us.
“Lillian’s childhood friend”. And the passive aggressive knife goes in.
Rose Byrne's voice and tone are so on point!
How does rose keep a straight face?! She was born for this role!
Good lord, the Jordan almonds scene had me DYING…. “chew them. You’re not chewing.” “Oh, they’re loud.” Helen would make the perfect prison torturer 💀
"this is not an apology" made me laugh HAHAHA
Love this movie because every character is played by an awesome comedian. They have such control and it brings out every emotion in the audience while we laugh
Helen is just like my old boss. Passive aggressive all through a beautifully presented smile. I used to walk away from a bosses work “meeting” feeling broken and confused. I was good at my job but she had to remind me that SHE was the boss and to keep my in my place. Drivel spewing from her smiley mouth with a concerned head tilt but at the same time saying something like “Ah yes, I know WELL DONE and that’s so great but you know, you really could have done so much better though, just focus a little more and try harder next time” 😳😳😳 Woman like this can be dangerous, manipulative and so controlling. Rose Byrne is such an incredible actress, nailed it perfectly.

I know a guy who’s exactly like Helen, even kinda looks like her too, in guy form. Talking to him is very similar to some of the conversations in this clip. It’s like no matter what, he’ll find a way to make anything you talk about seem lame or less-than in the most irritatingly passive-aggressive way.

One of my all time favorite movies! Every time I watch it, I find something new to laugh about.
Rose Byrne is so hilariously annoying that I am in tears watching this. I can't even. The Jordan almonds thing got me😂
A lot of comedic actors are either type cast into playing the funny role OR poorly directed which results in them essentially acting the same in EVERY movie (think Kevin Hart or Rebel Wilson). However, Bridesmaids does a good job of showing that Kristin Wiig and Maya Rudolph can act and were given good direction. They're not treating the movie like an SNL sketch, nor were they directed to act like caricatures. This move is comedic, but it's equally a drama and really enjoyable to watch.
This is one of my fave movies ❤ These two play off each other excellently ❤❤❤❤
Helen is the more obviously toxic woman but Annie is almost as bad. That's why it isn't too painful to watch her downfalls as she mostly brings them on herself.
The first scene of outtakes is hilarious but I'm glad they cut it -- it was too early in the film to get too much of Helen or get insight into her latent insecurities with a lot of passive-aggressive banter...better to just have a brief intro of her looking and seeming completely untouchable and chip away at her facade from there. "You have family?" for the win, however.
As a guy, to me Rose Bryne brilliantly captured the uniquely hurtful and belittling way that women are mean to each other. Kind of like, I feel hurt and insulted but am I RIGHT to feel that way? Perfect recipe for instilling the pain of self doubt.
Backhanded apologies "I'm sorry ..you're so uncomfortable in your own skin" "sorry to have made fun of your shoes Behind your back.."
