Bride Of Re-Animator - ''Blasphemy?'' scene (1990)
I love this part of the movie, very much ! :)
Cheers. // www.imdb.com/title/tt0099180/
Dialogue:
- What have you done in here?
- We created a life.
- You made her?
- Yes.
- Dead pieces of this.
With my hands I created
what no man's mind or woman's
womb could ever hope to achieve.
- This is blasphemy!
- Blasphemy?
Before what, God?
A God repulsed by the miserable
humanity he created in his own image?
I will not be shackled
by the failures of your God.
The only blasphemy
is to wallow in insignificance.
I have taken refuse
of your God's failures
and I have triumphed.
There!
There is my creation!

@@Aadhitiya its just the trans experience fr
Came to see one of the best examples of acting ever made in movie out of nostalgia. Got the amazing acting and absurd amount of "trans" comments spammed everywhere. What the heck? I saw the movie a long time ago and I did not see it nor I see it now. Are some trans activists so self-centered, that they see their agenda literally in everything? Or maybe it is some joke I did not get idk.
Its not even trans its literally a horror movie serously why do people make everything about trans people im honestly getting sick of it i dont hate trans people im just getting sick of them making everything about trans and stuff

folks bring up trans experience with this film because the themes in it are relevant to trans experience. it's that simple!

yeah you're right. he's not trans. that doesn't mean trans people can't identify with his words and his ideas, which encapsulate quite a bit of the trans experience. also the films (the first two at least) are already so queer-coded that it's not even that far of a leap

I was just thinking about the same thing. It is almost like those people personalities only revolve around "being trans" and so they see it everywhere, even unable to just enjoy this piece of amazing acting without making it about trans for some reason.

@@LadyMngwa from the way you write, i assume you’re not trans, so let me explain why trans people in particular resonate with this film. firstly, lets review the hayes code: this was a period in hollywood where queer people were not allowed to be depicted in a positive light because it was considered, “sexual deviancy,” and therefore discouraged. this led to many villains in particular being “queer-coded,” which means that they were given largely queer traits without being considered “positive representation.” even after the hayes code ended, this habit of queer coding continued, and is even present in today’s media. herbert and dan are already queer coded in a specifically mlm way in the movie, and its not a very far stretch for trans people to resonate specifically with herbert west. now, lets look at reanimator. one of the most famous deleted scenes is a scene that depicts herbert west taking his own reagent, and while it’s not considered to be a good thing, many trans men have found similarity in the scene to taking a testosterone shot. herbert west is also a small, visually weak man, yet he’s still dangerous and just as if not more dangerous than dan. herbert kills (and subsequently reanimates) more people than dan, despite being the “weaker” of the two. trans men often find solidarity with this when they are considered “weaker” than cis men even though they can do the exact same things. lastly, herbert west’s monologue in bride of reanimator: “blasphemy? before what god? a god repulsed by the miserable humanity he created in his own image? i will not be shackled by the failures of your god. the only blasphemy is to wallow in in insignificance. i have taken the refuse of your god’s failures and i have triumphed.” oh boy; where to start? many trans people have experience with being told that their transition is “against god” and, by extension, “blasphemy.” here is a man who doesnt shrink from being told that what he’s doing is blasphemy; instead, he proclaims that he takes “the refuse of your god’s failures” (often how trans people view their pre transition bodies) “and i have triumphed” (transitioning). similarly, many trans people view the line, “i will not be shackled by the failures of your god,” as similar to their own feelings when transitioning; they won’t be shackled by the body they have. all of this in mind, it should be easy to see how trans people can resonate with this film in particular. you may not have seen it or understood it before because you were not meant to be always looking for scraps of yourself in movies, but that’s perfectly fine! ❤️
