Brewtools Brewing System Valve Setups with 0-4 Valves | Hops & Gnarly Home Brewery

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I’ll show you Brewtools valve setups using 0 valves all the way up to 4 valves and I’ll explain what you might get out of each additional valve.
One of the coolest things about the Brewtools Pro Series Brewing Systems is how modular they are. Whether you have the Brewtools B40 or the Brewtools B80 or even the Brewtools B150, you can configure it exactly how you want it with as many valves as you need.
But when you’re just getting started, all these options can be a bit overwhelming. So in this video I’ll break it all down and show you different setups using 0 valves all the way up to 4 valves and I’ll explain what you might get out of each additional valve.
I got this system at a discount, hence the paid promotion message at the beginning of the video. I have 0 obligation to say anything nice about it.

    What an excellent tutorial! Great explanation of the valve setups. I just love how you have progressed (rather quickly I might add) throughout the brewing systems. The B40Pro is by far my favorite. I can't wait to see what you've brewed with it.

    Excellent video. Unless I'm missing something here I see benefit in a two valve setup that doesn't involve the counter-flow chiller. One valve is for connecting a sparge water source and the second gives you the option of pumping to a fermenter instead or recirculating wort without having to disconnect the sparge source. This is the configuration I plan start with as I am using an immersion chiller because I simply prefer them over counter-flow and plate chillers.

    I have watched so many of your videos although I never really realized that our B40's are set up differently... I used the setup from the original video through Brew Tools (they have it so you are basically always circulating through the chiller) but added a 3rd valve on the lower left port to dump waste during cleaning, and use the second valve on the upper left side to send wort to the fermenter after the chiller. I see the benefit of closing off the chiller, so I might give this a try.

    Great video Dan, very informative, I had no idea you could use the system with 0 valvles and i've done 74 brewdays on my B40 :-) Personally i have 3 valves, but in essence it's a 2 valve system as the one pump side isn't used as a 3w valve at all as i hand sparge with a watering can [don't laugh it works great] obviously i have 2 3w valves on the left side of the unit and to pump to the FV or drain the system I simply have to take one pipe end off, it's simple but works well. Tbh i have had a play about with 3 valves on the left side but found it confusing and struggled to get the wort around the system where i wanted it so went back to simplicity and 2 valves. Each to their own, as you say the system is unbelievably modular with sooooo many add ons to allow a brewer to craft a setup that best suits his/her own brewery conditions, I've seen hard piped 5-6 valves systems on some brewers setups, bit overkill imo as its easy to get confused with multiple valves, looking forward to the next vid...

    @@HopsANDgnarly Being honest, my first brewday on the B40 was 'almost' a disaster, and i spent 3 weeks getting to know the system, but didn't know how to pause the timer on the mash rest [which holds the system to whatever mash temp you have set] temp plummeted as it would with no heat, asked a question on the Brewtools FB page and within 5 mins got an answer that saved the day, and the beer turned out decent, took me another 2 brewdays before i was fully confident and after that the brewdays just got easier and smoother, and still are thankfully...

    You could go for a whirlpool with two valves if you circulate through the chiller instead of the bypass. This will also allow you to drain to the fermenter from the bottom port if adding a third valve. A lot of options with this system.

    Great video! I have a b80pro with the 4 valve setup kit on order and should receive in late Dec! Been watching your series and it's a huge help! One question, I can't seem to find out which connections I need to hook up a normal US 3/4" hose bib to the counterflow chiller. Can you share what you are using? Looks like maybe the TC34mm to 12mm hose fittings are what u are using?

  • @HopsANDgnarly

    @HopsANDgnarly

    Glad you like them! For the hose you’ll need the brewtools garden connector and then on Amazon look for the Gardena hose connectors. You’ll need the female piece but I just got the full kit and use it on all my sprayers. If there’s an o-ring on the connector it will likely work but the Gardena brand definitely fits

    @@HopsANDgnarly I appreciate this. I expect a little (a lot) trial and error, I ordered some fittings that should connect the hose to the 12mm hose that connects to the chiller. Looking at images from your videos, it looks like the "2 pcs TC34mm to 12mm hose barb" included in the 4 valve kit is used for the chiller water connect. Is that the intention or are these used somewhere else in the set-up? BTW, I also just ordered the 14gal BT X1 pro fermentor as well. Excited to take my fermenting to a new level. Thanks dude! I haven’t thought about that but every piece of this thing can be replaced and/or modified. So if I breaks I can swap it out and I can even relocate it into the wall or a stand if I need to get it into a safer spot. One unfortunate thing I’ve run into already is liquid can manipulate the screen and turn the pump pressure up for example. Not a good situation so I’m thinking about putting it on a vesa mount

    After watching your Brewtools valve episode it sounds like its not possible to pump out wort to the fermentor without adding at least one additional valve. I did find a single valve accessory for about $60 alacart from Brewtools and I'm wondering if that's all that is required to pump wort to the fermentor. In the video you had suggested needing to pay for the 2 valve accessory package or else syphon the wort to the fermentor. This valve is only $60 so that would be great if that's all that is needed. Would that be sufficient?
