    As a recent B80 owner (2 brews in), I really enjoyed the bottom valve graphics used in this video as well as the pump speed used. Great idea and implementation :)

    Love the overlay graphic for the bottom valve position and pump speed, great touch. Your brewing technique and setup is obviously on point, but your video technique is really elegant too, like the narration volume control and tone, the musical interludes and crossfading, and the editing too. Always look forward to these videos and learn something each time.

    When the malt pipe was lifted up at 12:18 it looked as if the whole thing was on the piss - set it up with a level, vital for accurate reading of the volume graduations.

    Haha its not that its un-leveled but misaligned with the cranes down slot in this video. Its been fixed now. Was only the second time using the crane so hoping to address this in the next video

    With your valves arranged that way you can probably underlet to avoid splashing

    What number is 1.2 mm in the Grainfather mill? I have used nr.6 for Pale & Pils malt in my prev GF

    Nice video as always! Did you ever mill oat malt with the GF mill? What setting worked for you in that case? Oat malt kernels are so small and rock hard!

    I love the content and have incorporated a lot of tricks into my process. I have a question. In your previous mashing videos, you increased the mash rest temperature by 2 degrees relative to the mashing temperature. have you left this practice yet?

    I would like to see a video with a full batch size, maybe 80 liters pre boil volume, it's a b80, with protein rest and step infusion. What is the sense of the sight glass collection you installed? 😅

    I think Protein rests are a bit redundant in this day and age of highly modified malts. Perhaps a short one for beers with high percentages of wheat but for other beers without high percentages of wheat / un-malted barleys a protein rest can be pretty detrimental to head retention and body at those temps. The sight glasses are more for fun and to bridge gaps in the piping that would otherwise be hoses. I should have included the steps in the mash. Perhaps ill remake the video at some point soon to cover all my bases. I didn’t do a full batch for this video to keep it easygoing but i think i should do a maxed out video too. The sweet spot for the system is 65L batches and i dont think ive ever been able to get 80L out of it post boil without a top up. Admittedly i dont really try to max it out or do really big grain bills. Ive been contemplating getting a B150 just so i can fill the F80 without having to top up the kettle after boiling. The system is just more predictable in the sweet spot batch size and has its limitations when compared to multiple vessel systems. I’ll definitely keep it in mind though.

    Thanks so much! I appreciate it. Well its pretty standard profile except ive moved my boil off to 5L/hour since im using the condenser. I have also changed my grain absorption to 1L/kg. Water to grain ratio 3.8L/kg. Trub/chiller loss for me is 3L. Fermenter loss at 1.5L

    What is the reason to minimise splashing during the recirculation stage of your mash? Why does it need to 'set'?

    Minimizing splashing prevents unnecessary oxidation during the hot side process and helps keeps temperatures more consistent since splashing increases heat loss. The bed needs to set to act as an efficient filter during the recirculation. If it sets un evenly it could lead to channels and uneven mash temps. Keeping everything even and a consistent rinsing of the grain bed will boost your efficiency.

    @@mojonojo3 definitely not a myth when you actually test wort oxidation numbers. If you have got numbers to back that up id love to see em. Oxidation affects all foods from the moment they are harvested. I dont have my own numbers posted but themodernbrewhouse.com outlines and explains it best with oxidation data to prove it every step of the way. It is however pointless to be concerned about HSA without an airtight cold side. The facts are there if you’re willing to invest the time, money and data the brewing community has to offer. Blindly believing its a myth without any real data to support your claim is just dogma.
