    I love your videos - they are just great! Wanted to mention that with my P150 I made my first brew.I learned that the volume loss with steamhat and condensor is next to nothing, so I ended with a volume that was 15l to high in the end..... Still, I will see what I can make out of this rather thin blonde ale ;) btw this is the account of my wife.... my name is Walter and I just founded The Forefathers Brewery in Austria

    Bradley, I have my equipment all set up in the garage, it’s took me a few days, but I’m ready for my first brewday on Monday, I’ve watched this video a half a dozen times, and picked up something different every time, it’s excellent for a newbie Brewtools user (not a new brewer though!!!), thank you again for your excellent delivery of something that we all know can be tricky, but more so, making a video of it!! I managed to save the brew, it’s in the fermenter now, og, down about 10 points, but I can live with that. I think I’ll invest in a hoist, like you, thanks again for your help..........

I have my brand-new grainfather g30 still in unopened box (waiting for my small homebrewery be completed in the basement of garage). But I love your equipment and considering switching to B40pro (b80 will be too much for me). Can you please share what your setup is looks like today, I watched your "buying guide", but it was from late 2019 I guess. I want to have setup similar to yours, can you share list of parts? For now I'm thinking about buying b40pro itself and their 4-valve starter kit, what else would you suggest to add? steaming hat? condenser? additional valves/clamps? I know maybe I'm asking for too much, but I'd appreciate any guidance. maybe I start with your Dec 2019 guide and you suggest what else to add to that? thanks!

    Can you tell me what volumes you're using your mash / sparge water? I've read in classic 3 vessel brewing you'd use more sparge water than mash water, but seems to be the other way round with the b40 / b80. What mash thickness are you using (water / grain)? I've come from no-sparge BIAB so a bit new to that part of using my B40! Only hit 60% mash efficiency in my first 2 brews, so something's off

    Hi Bradley, many thanks for your BT videos, they are proving to be a great help. I've only a couple of brews under my belt and yes, It's a steep learning curve, all made a lot easier thanks to you. One question about this video, about 15 mins in, you show the trub trapper and on your back wall is what looks like a rotating sparge arm. Am I right in that and if so, where did you get it? I used to use one many years ago. I'm not sure the BT sparge hat does as good a job, as it doesn't (to me) properly drench all the grain bed. And I think it's all over too quickly. Once again, many thanks.

    Hey Bradley, this is great, thanks for all these great videos. I have a question about mash efficiency and sparging. It looked like you did a quick pump over from your sparge tank, and that's it. On my first B40 session, I ended up with really low efficiency, and I think the sparging was pretty ineffective. Some people have talked about doing a slow hand sparge to make sure all the grain gets well rinsed. Have you ever had any issues in this area? Would pumping any of the kettle liquid back through the sparge hat after sparging be a bad idea? Just trying to see what could be improved here!

  • @PortlyGentleman

    Hey, Bradley, can I ask what made you choose brewtools? I just built a new house and have a dedicated brew area for an electric brewery and can’t decide which system to get. I have it narrowed to a b40, Grainfather, and Anvil Foundry. I had a 20a nema 6-20 outlet put just for 240v system, just in case I went that route(in live in the states also). I only brew a few times a month and I can afford the higher priced system and I do love gadgets. Just wanted your honest opinion. Thanks! And love your channel.

    Thanks for the kind words about my channel 🍻 well firstly I started brewing on a grainfath and at first the device was great then it all went sideways. The good thing about the B40 is you can get it in 240 volt which is the one I would get if I had the choice As well as the anvil I believe. We're really comparing to opposite ends of the spectrum. All three will make good beer for sure. Brewtools is a great company with awesome customer service. Their product is high-end and high-quality. That's not opinion I'm pretty sure that's fact. I decided to go with Brewtools because I wanted something high-end that was built well. I was also very impressed with the innovation they put into the system. and the innovations they're working on are second to none. I hope this was helpful! Hi Bradley, greetings from Germany. Well done video! I am a big fan of the BT (80) system and using it for almost a year now. Definitely not a walk away system. After a few brews all movements become natural, but I stepped in a similar situation with heat/pump control, maybe coloring the heater in red color and leave the pump green (Øyvind, what do you think if the idea?). After flame out I just circulate (whirlpool) through the counter flow chiller till reaching hop stand temperature, then stopping the circulation, but turn a fast whirlpool with the paddle (maybe just 10-20 seconds close to vessel inner diameter... doh my bad English... ). Put the lid on and do a whirlpool rest for about 20 minutes. The worth will calm down an is clear like a mirror. With long whirlpool through the pump, I am afraid crushing the trub too fine. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Please show a picture with the full trub trapper. Waiting the gadget from BT to be released. BTW have you been doing multiple mash steps or just single mash step? Keep the videos coming.

    Hi Bradley, we're using our new B150 for the first time today to brew a Belgian Witbier. Since it is our first brew, we decided to only use 60L mash water, so nowhere near full capacity. We notice that increasing temperature between mash steps is really taking a long time (will measure time later, but noticeably longer than other, smaller brew systems we have used before). Is this normal? Any tips? Both heaters are plugged in (although now both from the same power group) and on 15A and 90% power. Another thing we noticed, is that when we pump full power through the center pipe, we don't get a the nice 'umbrella splash' we see in your video's. It drops (fast) down the center. The pump seems to be operating fine (no noise), but no nice splash. Any tips on that as well? Hope to hear from you, thanks! HJ & Jilte The Netherlands

  • @PortlyGentleman

    @PortlyGentleman

    4 жыл бұрын

    It shouldn't take that long to heat I wouldn't imagine. I would imagine you're not trying to heat the full 60L At each step either. I would think it would fly definitely make sure everything is set up correctly. If they're both on the same 15 amp plug that is definitely not enough power and maybe dangerous. As far as the recirculation and mash, Sometimes there's an issue with surface tension on the water I believe it's called cohesion. If you blow on the mash hat to ensure it has no water sitting on top of it. And then turn the pump on at least 50%, you should be able to get around this issue. Hopefully I was able to help let me know how it works out 🍻

    @@PortlyGentleman Hi Bradley, good morning 😉 and thanks for your quick response! We will try your tip on the recirculation next time. We're already done sparging and were able to get the 'fountain' working. Sometimes. I believe you're right on the 'cohesion', will try blowing on the mash head next time 👌 As for the heating, we try connecting to two groups next time. All wiring is protected by automatic fuses (double even), so if we draw too much power, it should spring. Also, the power cables are of the thick kind. So that should be fine. At the end of the mash phase I timed the heating and it took the system 15 minutes to heat from 72°C to 78°C. Is that long or am I just impatient? 😅 The system is now heating to a boil and took half an hour to heat to about 88°C (with some temperature loss during sparging, I reccon 15°C increase).

    Should you really care about oxidation pre-boil? After mashing you are going to boil, which drives out oxygen, and then after cooling, transfer to fermenter and try like hell to oxygenate the wort for a healthy fermentation.
