    LOVE my Oracle Touch. Been using for about two years. Big splurge at beginning of Covid lockdown, and was a big morale booster during that time. For me, this machine is the perfect balance between automation and control. Very easy to use. Most gratifying is when guests come over for a latte, they frequently say “this is the best coffee I’ve ever had”.

    I got mine for couple of months. It's super simple and fast to use. What I loved was that you get everything in the box - grinder, tamper, tools to clean and adjust and bucket for used coffee. I was thinking about more prosumer machines but they need to much involvement. Oh and you can adjust the dose with screws in tamper (set mine at 20g and it keeps it steady within 0.1g). One thing that I bought extra was scale to weight brewed coffee. With this my wife can easily dial in new beans knowing that 40g should brew in 25-35s.

    This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. kzread.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

    I've had mine for about 18 months now and have definitely grown to love it. I struggled with inconsistent yields at first but since switching to a specific air-roasted bean have had much more consistency. I'd advise anyone getting one of these to get a scale, a VST 15g basket and an anti-static cloth too (for giving the tamp mech the occasional wipe down/discharge). The auto steam wand is a thing of magic. I just wish it had the ability to extend brewing for a couple of extra seconds if I had a shot that was pulling through slowly for some reason

    Hi Christoper, I have a Sage/Breville Oracle Touch and I'm experiencing the same inconsistency as you are describing. I am using a scale (both to measure output for ground coffee and liquid coffee), but not a VST 15 g basket and an anti-static cloth. I would be grateful, if you could share what these two items have helped you with. I would assume that you use the VST 15 g basket to get a lower dose of ground coffee - but do you get 15 grams or just a minor amount than the 22/23/24 grams, which the Breville delivers? and how has the VST basket impacted the Breville's tamping? and I would assume that you use the antistatic cloth to minimize the build-up of ground coffee on the tamping fan, which causes the Breville to ruin the tamping? is that correct?

  • @zacp96

    @zacp96

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey! If using a 15g basket, will it dose the 15g then or will it try and dose the higher 24g odd dose? And do the VST baskets always fit the portafilter? I noticed its slightly smaller than most 58mm portafilters!

  • @casdavies

    @casdavies

    Жыл бұрын

    @@jakobvossbjerre6287 Sorry just saw this. It doses about 17-18g into the 15g basket IIRC. It doesn't have any impact on tamping. Yes, the antistatic cloth is to help ensure tamping works better. It's not flawless, but I have fewer issues. I think the tamping issue actually stems from coffee clumping between the grinder and tamp fan. If a clump falls into the tamp fan when the basket is nearly full it results in the basket being overfilled and the tamp fan can't then flatten it (unless you remove the excess with a teaspoon). That's why I try to get the freshest air-roasted beans on a subscription, they tend to have fewer clumping issues.

  • @casdavies

    @casdavies

    Жыл бұрын

    @@zacp96 It has an adjustable screw connected to the tamp fan that you can remove quite easily (though be careful as the screw is tiny and can be easily lost). It'll dose about 17-18g into the 15g portafilter. I can't speak for other baskets, but I'm using a 15 ridgeless VST basket and it fits fine.

    I watched a video previously and the only thing that went wrong in 3 yrs was the handle on it. He did have a good video on how to adjust the tamper which I thought was kinda great. He showed how to adjust the height etc and also went through all the cleaning of the machine in a separate video. Very informative. Thank you for doing this video also. I'm not so sure I want to spend so much but sure like the automation of the machine! I had the old style breville several years ago and it just got to be a pain making an espresso so it got stuffed in the cupboard and forgotten. These automatic type ones on the other hand I think i could enjoy for a much longer period!

    I’ve tried espresso in the past with a more basic Gaggia model. I was never happy. I just never created good espresso or good milk drinks. Pandemic kept me at home and I wanted to try again. I purchased an Oracle Touch and have been very happy. Drink quality is very good. Cleanup is easy. And I’m doing enough of the drink making to feel like I’m the barista, not the button pusher. This is much better than any super automatic I’ve ever tried. And when time comes to replace, I’ll be ready to dive into the deep end.

I do miss the adjustability but I am the only family member who cares about that. Like you my partner is not interested in the process just the result and now she is very happy being able to easily make good espresso at home. Impressed with the quality of the coffee it has made so far, better than about 75% of store bought coffees.

    You can actually adjust the dose somewhat, if you remove the tamper blade, pull out the metal rod above it, and there is an a small screw you can losen and then adjust the tamper blade position - and hence adjust the dosage. You will probably want to just set it as low as possible, and you should get closer to 18-19 grams, instead of 22-24. Combined with changing to a high quality VST basket or similar, you can get EXTREMELY consistent extraction. Mine has been rock solid for 4 years now, not a single complaint or any repairs.

    Having owned a few of these over the years (non-touch version), I thought your points were spot on. In my experience, it's a great machine - when it's almost new, but all those fancy features do mean more things to go wrong. I've found the tamping mechanism doesn't last and the steam wand temps and air regulation also become inaccurate over time. Still my wife's favourite machine though. Great Vid

If they added the automatic steam frother to the dual boiler I think that would be a massive win for coffee enthusiasts

    Spot on with all the critiques in my opinion, I have had this machine for 2 years, its great but I do miss the manual milk steamer but it's pretty fantastic tho but the grind calibration needs maintenance as with water flow after 2 years. Systems upgrades should be an option on the touch features too, maybe wifi like some of the LG products I also own would make this machine golden.

    I hadn't considered that this could easily be upgraded to have the same data/control features as the Gagguino and DE-1. I think Breville should release an Oracle Pro, that upgrades the built in grinder to something equivalent to a Niche or DF64, manual controls/wifi/datalogging/custom pressure profiles like the DE-1, and a built in scale. Perhaps they could even automate dialing in, by controlling the grind setting with a servo, and using the data from the scale. I wonder if it would be possible to redo the auto tamper to adjust itself for dose changes... I think the Oracle Pro would sell like hell at $4k to wealthier couples, since it unites both the enthusiast and their uninterested partner, with an extremely simple yet extremely powerful machine.

    You can change the default dose fairly easily to dial it in to 18g. (The manual explains how to change the height of the pin that holds the tamping fan). It is also set at nine barr pressure and you can vary the temperature precisely. Points worth making!

    I’d put this squarely against the super automatics except the people who tend to buy this care a little more about coffee than simplicity in the sense I have friends who leave their beans in the machine until done, milk in the container until refill, they want Starbucks and not speciality. My husband and I love this machine. We had it for a few years now; however we ran into a problem you may want to pass on to others. Recently the LCD screen would not allow you to touch the screen. It did not recognize the touch and when not in use it would switch to other functions. I searched the internet for a solution and after several hours of searching I discovered the reason for the malfunction was over heating. In my research I discovered if you unplug the machine after use and allow it to cool off it works like new. So if anyone is having this issue the quick fix is to unplug the machine allow to cool for a few hours and all is fine. The machine cannot be left on for a long period of time. Other than that we cannot do without this wonderful machine. We love our Breville Espresso baby.

Americanos and milk based drinks are really good, way better than any fully automatic i have ever tried. As a beginner i was struggling with espresso for a long time, but with a lower dose, a good hand grinder and a lot of your videos (and some of James'😁) i finally get great espresso and a dual boiler were you can easily change temperature, it has pre infusion, a shot timer, autostart and most important - a happy wife😉.

Have just purchased a Specialita for this reason.

  • @dev4runner

    My girlfriend used the crap out of my oracle. It's now a leaky machine that trips breakers. Superauto machines DO have a grinding advantage. Many super-autos will let you drop coffee grounds down an auxiliary chute, letting you use your million dollar grinder. No tamping, no portafilter, just your grinder and a big dosing cup dumping into the machine. Dialing in a super auto is totally different and way more limited though. In my Jura it is: coffee strength(amount of beans), grind size, water temperature, and amount of liquid in your cup. The first two you can take over with your external grinder. Second two are heavy handed. 3 settings for water temp, and liquid amount in half ounces. I was able to get some enjoyable stuff out of the oracle, the superauto I'm still working on.

    The biggest downfall to this machine, is the grinder honestly but aside from that if you learn how to pull espresso you can get really awesome shots out of this. And for people who don’t want to do all the measuring and everything and weighing with the scale, the built-in grinder is totally adequate but if you want 100% consistency you are going to be disappointed by the grinder the dose just changes too much. I ended up buying a separate grinder for myself but my wife loves using the built-in grinder

    I’ve got a non-touch version of the Oracle and think that it actually is a great machine for even someone who considers themselves an espresso enthusiast. I’ve got a young child at home, so I don’t always get the time I’d want to have to deal with puck preparation and dosing. When I do get that time, though, I can use a separate (nicer) single dosing grinder to prepare pucks exactly the way I want. The non-touch version also has an advanced menu (similar to the Dual Boiler), which allows you to change pre-infusion duration and pressure as well as shot temperature (within 1 degree) and many other parameters. The automatic milk steaming also works great, but I think a really great feature that is often not mentioned is how well the manual steaming works. The really cool thing for me is the temperature probe that is still giving an online temperature reading during manual steaming, which allows you to prepare more reproducible milk based drinks. As espresso nuts, we often care a lot about shot temperature but leave milk steaming up to the feeling of the outside of the pitcher. This is far less accurate and repeatable. Really good review! Keep up the great content!

And yes, you mention, the toch screen is not fast as the newst mobile phones and the grinder should have some more setting. This is not importand for me. So this video from you convince me to buy the oracle touch. Thanks again for this good and honest review.

    We bought the barista touch version because we enjoy espresso and we were tired of spending $6 each at coffee shops. I learned the process and make very good coffee, it may not be perfect but it gets the job done quick and for the fraction of the price we paid before. The machine should pay for itself in less than a year. It’s simple to use once you learn the process and dial everything in and that’s what we love about it, no more Nespresso pod style coffee 🤮

    Just bought one of these to replace my Breville Oracle that I’ve had for 10 years with no issues. I have an error message on my oracle and Breville says they can’t fix it until September (it’s July now)…so, they are offering 60% off to get another machine…I am an enthusiast like you…started with a Rancilio Silvia until my 2 year old turned on the boiler button with no water in it…My wife, like yours, doesn’t want to deal with all the prep..so we bought a Gaggia super automatic and it was fine, but felt cheap…Now loving the Breville line…on the pre-infusion, my Oracle lets you adjust it? Not sure what your point was about that part…I have to say, I’d prefer to just get the original Oracle again with the buttons vice touch screen, but they are out of stock right now, so the Touch will be coming next week…One other HUGE benefit (at least pre-covid) is Breville’s service…ours had an issue after about 5 years. They sent me a box to send it to them with pre-paid postage, fixed it, and sent it back within two weeks with no charge…I expect we’ll return to that service once COVID dies down a bit and the economy gets back to normal…On the steam wand, I drink soy and this machine did the best of all the machines I tested at steaming soy milk FWIW…great review!

    Have you heard of the descaler issues with the machine? Luckily they sent me a replacement after my failed descaling operation. I ended up doing it a second time a year later after getting g my new replacement and thought I broke the machine. Somehow I revived the machine after some KZread searches but now I will never descale the machine. I do all the other general maintenance regularly but the descaler function break your machine even if you follow directions step by step. I even used the OEM descaler solution and I almost think that is the problem because it's a powder solution. Maybe the premixed liquid solution would work better but I'm not willing to try the descaler option again. I will either run the machine until it goes out or sell and upgrade in another couple years.

  • @koffiezet

    I have this machine for almost 2 years now, I wanted a machine that was pretty easy to live with, and all the full auto things seemed finicky and required a lot of cleaning and maintenance, and all looked like plastic on the inside, so I picked this-one. I initially really liked it initially, but made me tumble down the coffee rabbithole. The first thing I indeed did was changing the dose, lowering it to the lowest I could get it, but it still portions out more than 22g at the lowest setting. The tamping however, certainly with pretty fresher roasted beans, is far from ideal. Usually you can still easily push a small dent in the center of the puck where the coffee puck is clearly less dense, which causing massive channeling issues. Works a lot better with older beans, but still not issue-free. I simply got myself a flat-burr grinder, and don't use the built-in-one or auto-tamper anymore. I do still use it for pulling the shots itself, the pre-infusion and timing is pretty handy, although eventually I'll probably get myself something else, there is indeed a lack of control. But lastly, yes, the milk steaming is amazing, just fill the jug, press a button and be done with it, and get consistently good foamed milk, but only the Oracle and Oracle touch seem to have this - which is a pity.

    I bought this machine last year as my entry into the espresso world. I was squarely looking for the following: good enough espresso that beats out chain coffee stores, with a good steaming wand for milk drinks without the machine consuming too much of time and forcing me to take on another hobby. I found the machine for about $1000 on rebate and for that price it has been an absolute performer. I did end up getting more into coffee and I do now feel like the grinder and the grinding mechanism doesn't have the consistency to pull great shot after shot but it heavily depends on the beans (finicky lighter roasts don't do as well). So, I'll upgrade the grinder but I won't get rid of this machine as I'm in the exact same boat: my girlfriend LOVES it and wouldn't stand for me trading it in for a more prosumer model. She loves being able to just make a decent cappuccino without too much fuss, without weighing, distributing, tamping, temperature surfing, etc. She loves coffee but simply has no interest in learning the technical details of what makes a great shot. And I don't feel like trading it in either. It's a solid dual boiler machine with a very friendly user interface and control scheme. I think with something like the Lagom Mini I'll be happy for a few years to come.

Its also £2000 so I expect it to well outlast the warranty. I just tried to order a new upper Burr Grinder... nothing in the UK at all. I am wondering if it's all a ploy to use the approved repair center as they seem to be able to get parts. Right to repair rules definitely need addressing as manufacturers cant be trusted to do the right thing it seems. I couldn't recommend getting one to anyone based on the lack of parts availability. The machine is a waste of money. We bought our first Oracle and after less than a year we had to send it in for service. It was still on warranty, so Breville claimed they fixed it and sent it back to us. It was not fixed, so we had to send it back to them. They said they couldn't fix it so they replaced with a new Oracle. That machine lasted for just about a year and then problems started. It was no longer under warranty because, as a replacement machine, there is only 6 months of warranty. We paid $500 to ship it back to Breville and have them repair it. The machine was damaged in shipping by Canada Post, so it was replaced with an Oracle Touch, as that was all Breville had available. Because the Touch was a replacement machine it only had 6 months warranty. 10 months after we received the Oracle Touch, we started having problems with it. We called Breville and were told that the price of repairing the machine had increased to $700 (maybe because of the previous Covid pandemic or the war in the Ukraine, they didn't say), but they would give us a break and only charge us $460. I could swear I heard their over-sized heart fall right out on the floor. Basically I told them I would rather throw the Oracle Touch in the garbage and buy another brand to replace it. They didn't seem too concerned. I decided that for $460, I would become a Breville repairman. Watched all the videos and read all the articles I could find about servicing different problems with the Oracle Touch. I took the machine apart (took about 20 minutes) and it seems I have a couple of leaking o-rings. Checking the forums, this seems to be a very common problem, especially after descaling the machine. So, it wasn't a warranty problem, but a defect in materials and workmanship, which should always be covered! I believe there is a problem with the o-ring material. Breville doesn't admit it, but the original o-rings were orange and the newer ones are blue. Anyway, the o-rings are on their way, $20 for two complete sets. I will save $440 dollars by repairing the machine myself. That is an amazing profit by Breville for 30 minutes of service work and a few dollars of parts. Seems like Breville has a bit of a scam going on. Now I will say, when the Oracle is working as it should, it is an amazing espresso maker. Easy to use, clean and great coffee! I like it enough to keep it running as long as I can fix it. But when it is done, I will not be buying another Breville espresso maker.

    The problem with the machine is that it breaks down easily. Mine has broken twice. In the same way. A rapid solenoid clicking sound WHILE TURNED OFF. And the grinder motor is overheating even though perfectly clean. Both times the machine broke was after I did a full cleaning: descale, group head, grinder. It does a GREAT job, when it works. They don't pay to ship it for repairs even when under warranty. Really disappointed in Breville. The very first one I bought had to be returned immediately because our sprayed water everywhere. Second, I would like a comment on when you grinded your own coffee manually (Comandante?) but then tamped it with the Oracle. Many of us are wondering how you did that in your previous story. Did you grind 24g of coffee to allow the tamper to detect the amount of grounds? Thanks!

I use 272º. then when you start stretching the milk go aggressive on it up to 100-110º on the thermometer. then when spinning the milk if you can get it to go round rather then tumble you'll get more fluffy light milk that sits on top for your cappucino. it's doable, just different.

    Sadly they now use cheap parts inside this model, there is a very common boiler leaking issue that leaks all over the electronics and blows the house circuits, the older ones over about two years old did have better parts but sadly the new ones have issues, in fact apparently Breville now tell customers to never descale the machine yet the machine will kept telling you too, this will leave the scale in the boiler to help prevent leaks but will have issues in time, these should be recalled and issue fixed but it’s apparently cheaper to just sell them and have the customer wait to have them constantly repaired, they won’t refund mine so I’m selling and investing in a real quality machine like the Bezzera Matrix DE Dual Boiler Coffee Machine
