    To be fair though , One of the things I like most about Bret Hart is his humanity . He isn't fake. You could say he has too big of an appreciation for himself if you like , but what he says is straight from the hip and sincere . Its far better to hear than some of the more calculated political things you hear from wrestlers who are always in business mode . ( not wanting to piss Vince off )

    +Jennifer Meaux Totally agree. I've always said that Bret is just a straight shooter, gives praise to anyone that deserves it (including himself) and doesn't lie to spare feelings. The reason he talks about himself so much is because he gets asked about himself so much, but he tells it like it is no matter the subject. Wish there were more like him.

    So according to Bret, he offers the idea of the Ladder Match to Vince, and Vince is on the fence about it but then agrees for Bret to have a demo match with Shawn Michaels which went very well. A couple years later when the WrestleMania X Ladder Match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon is announced all of a sudden Bret says that they stole his idea and also didn’t ask for his permission to do the Ladder Match...... That’s a pretty ridiculous point of view. Bret pitched the idea to Vince two years prior. In my opinion it seems like Bret is a little bitter because the Shawn/Razor Ladder Match is talked about more and is and is also held in a higher regard that the match that Bret had with his brother Owen on the same show...

    For all you bashing Bret as having exaggerated the ladder match idea. Bret has always said they did this match in Stampede and he never says he invented the ladder match. He wanted to bring the idea to WWF, showed it to Vince and wanted the idea to be used by him (fair enough since it was his idea). Look, if they were going to give the match to someone else, they could have at least asked Bret or told him before just booking it. Pretty crappy on Vince's part.

  • @tonyc7301

    @tonyc7301

    sextc89 I'm sure Bret didn't specifically ask for a ladder match at WM, but that's not the point. If Bret told Vince that he wanted the idea to be used for him and Vince agreed to that, it's pretty bad that Vince booked Shawn and Razor at WM without even telling him about it. Shawn even admits in interviews they stole the idea from him.

    Chris Williams I'm sure Bret wouldn't have been thrilled but I doubt he would have been as bothered by it for so many years. Bret would have disagreed I'm sure, but he always respected people that were straight with him, even if it wasn't what he wanted to hear. I liked the Bret/Owen match at WM X better anyway. The Shawn/Razor match was great for sure, mostly because of all the unique high spots that Shawn pulled off. Razor just happened to be there. Honestly I think you could have put the Brooklyn Brawler in there with Shawn and it still would have been a damn good match. Shawn was just that good. I honestly would have loved to see Shawn and Bret do a PPV ladder match. That would have been amazing with two such awesome workers.

    @tonyc7301

    @109296360466307036491 First off dude no need to insult me. Just because we don't agree on a match doesn't mean I "don't know much" as you say. Razor was a big athletic guy who could work well for a guy his size. If he were focused on his wrestling versus being a drunk more often he could have been an all time great. Secondly, you compare him to Undertaker at that time. Undertaker had a Frankenstein gimmick at that time that limited his move set. It wasn't until 96'-97' and then later his "American Bad Ass" gimmick that you saw more of what he could do. There is no debate that Undertaker's matches were much better during the second half of his career than the first. Also, Razor was a good worker, but ladder matches tend to do better with smaller, high flyers, which Shawn was and Razor wasn't, so the type of match certainly showcased Shawn's ability more. That said, pretty common knowledge that Shawn carried that match and that Razor was in the ring while Shawn "wrestled a ladder" as Flair used to say.

    @109296360466307036491 Ok man, I was buying a lot of what you are saying but to say that Bret and Shawn wouldn't have been a better ladder match. Obviously we are talking "what if's" here but come on. You are seriously comparing Scott Hall with Bret? Dude, I will give you that Shawn is probably the best in ring performer ever (Bret isn't the best, but he is top five), but Razor? The guy had ton of talent and a good look but was focused maybe 5% of the time. If Shawn and Bret had a ladder match in their prime when both were top flight workers and big bumpers, that would have been amazing. As far as Shawn being on drugs at the time, sure he was. But why is he considered maybe the best ever where as Hall is just another good wrestler? A lot of it is because Shawn got cleaned up. If he didn't he likely would be dead today or worse off than Jake Roberts turned out. The second career he had after he came back was just as good, if not better than his first. Sure, he lost some of his athleticism, but his story telling improved 100% from where it was and he could still work just as well as anyone WWE had. It's that second career that makes Michaels what he is today. As far as the Hall/Nash making WCW. Yeah, the NWO did for like two years before the gimmick ran dry, Hogan got too old, Hall drank himself out of the business and Nash got injured every time he sneezed. They lucked into that gimmick and it worked out for a couple of years. You can just as easily say that they helped run the company out of business between mid 98'-01'.

    +Chris Williams Ok dude, first off, chill out. You write 3/4 posts for every one I write. You are all over the place with the different points you are trying to make. Secondly, no need to call me an idiot just because you and I disagree on a ladder match from over 20 years ago. So to address your 1000 points from your last four posts: 1. When you say Shawn and Bret couldn't have had a better ladder match than Shawn and Razor (whether or not anyone agrees) you are comparing Bret and Razor. 2. Bret/Shawn iron man match was not carried by either man. Shawn dominated the first half of the match offensively and Bret the second half. 3. I pretty much agree with your entire second post. 4. First off, you called me an idiot so go fuck yourself. 5. Not saying coming up with the gimmick of NWO was luck but lucky it did that well. Too bad they ran in into the ground and rolled with it about 2 years too long. 6. I had no idea how Sting came up with the crow gimmick. Thanks for the tid bit. 7. Hogan held on to the top spot in WCW way too long at the expense of younger guys. He had a later run in WWE? Uh, ok. Runs of like 2-4 months where he wrestled a few times, if you call that a run. Hogan was never a great worker and an old Hogan had zero business main eventing anything. You mention Flair but although he is an embarrassment now he did have a nice WWE run later because he is ten times the worker Hogan is. 8. The Time Warner merger didn't help WCW but there are many reasons it went under. That being one of many and Hogan and the tired NWO crap being another. 9. I think Michaels first and second runs are about equal, and they were very different. Version 1 was more athletic and edgier. Version 2 was still a great worker (not as good as verison 1) and could tell a story much better than version 1. Anyway, I'll wait for your next insult and multiple posts. Have a great day.

    It was Tito Santana that came up with the name. Scott Hall says so himself, he went to take a piss after meeting with Vince, and he didn’t have a name, and he had the Razor part, but hall asked Santana for a surname that would be good, and he instantly spit out Ramón....and Vince instantly loved it. So, Bret is pretty spot on with most of his recollection, because Curt did in fact go in with Scott, but it was Tito Santana that gave him the name. Love you bret.

    The cage match between Bret and Owen at Summerslam 94 was not only (easily) the greatest traditional cage match of all time, but I think that match is a highly unrated match could probably should fall into anybody's top 10 list for greatest matches of all time. Not to say Bret and Owen couldn't have done a great job with a ladder match, but it would have never compared to the cage match, and while Bret and Shawn probably would have had a great ladder match, I really don't think it would have been as classic as Shawn and Razor.

The sunglasses, leather jacket, long greasy hair, it gave him a badass appearance and I always rooted for The Heart Foundation to win based on his look. It was a bit of a dodgy move from Vincent to take the idea and give it to someone else, but, without that, we’d never have had that classic match at mania 10 with Shawn and razor. Imagine that! Wrestling would have lost one of the greatest matches of all time. The opening technical wrestling match with Bret and Owen and the story they told was so beautiful it didn’t need any kind of gimmick. Those two matches made mania 10 what it was.

    "It was the idea that was great, not the match." See - I love Bret, but that's the problem with Bret in a nutshell, right there. If he had said it was a great idea and it was stolen from him and Shawn and Razor had a great match with it, then I would say, "Yeah, they really kinda cheated Bret." But the way he always has to make sure no one else sounds as good of a wrestler as him, it doesn't make you want to feel sorry for him. They DID steal his idea. They also did a great match with it because they were also great wrestlers. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Still, Vince should have came to him if he gave his word but hey, forgiveness over permission.

    I agree with Bret about Shawn stealing his idea and funny enough Shawn Michaels also didn't create the superkick as it was originally created by Gentleman Chris Adams during his tenure with World Class Championship Wrestling. Chris Adams was the first person to have created it and used it. The very first Ladder match happened in Stu Hart's territory Stampede Wrestling. Shawn Michaels didn't even come up with the Heartbreak Kid nickname. It was Mr. Perfect that came up with the name in the first place. In my opinion Shawn Michaels had no original ideas but knew how to steal it from other people.

    There was ladders match way before bret had even suggested it. The first one was at stampede wrestling in 1972 which is where bret may have gotten the idea from. Bret also had a ladder match in 1983 against bad news brown. Its upto the promoter who wrestles in what type of match. Bret just think hes bigger than sport itself and that everything should be his way. Most other wrestlers are just in it for the paycheck so do what the promoter says. If every wrestler was going to revolt at doing a job or not being pushed then wrestling would never have reached the heights that it has
