When Nick asks the waiter if they dip the cheeseburger and he replies "if you want it", I got the impression that if you ordered a cup of coffee and asked for it to be dipped, they'd figure out a way of making that work.

don't think I'm a fan of the wet bread. but I think, like most people have mentioned here, the sauce would be better off the side so you can pour it (or dip in it) later. I still prefer the bread to hold its shape while you're taking a bite out of it.
@normandea

I agree. When the bread is soaked in the aus jus, it just disintegrates. On the side would definitely be best.
@eliseserpico7866

@@normandea I've been there and had it both ways. It's honestly better soaked. The inside of the bread gets amazing and soft, but the outside still has a crust. It's really hard to explain.

I’m in Evansville IN. We used to have a place called,”Sir Beef”. The look and food remind me of said restaurant.
It's far wiser to get the broth on the side so you can dip as you go. The bread doesn't get too soggy and you get that great mix of flavors!
This place is the best you got to eat here

What's interesting about B&C's is that I grew up in the area, and never once did I nor my friends set foot in this place. It always seemed like this bizarre restaurant, a low, windowless building set on a concrete island. Whenever I walked by it, which was nearly daily, I thought "That place cannot serve good food." Here I am 40 years later, and turns out I was wrong. Now it's a hipster destination.
Drooling!

This is an Italian beef on an onion roll. Been doing this in Chicago forever. I'd be knifing and forking it as well. This is why we have a half dip.
@EdKelly-yu6gp

it's not an onion roll. Dunno what Italian beef is, but this does not have any Italian spices I see. Meat, plain roll, au jus. American cheese optional. Sloppy. Good. Eat at the counter, they won;t try to give you a paper plate. actual plates used.

The North shore of Boston is known for their Roast beef sandwich shops more than any place in the world!
BRENNAN AND CARR WAS A FAVORITE EATING PLACE FOR EVERYONE IN THE EARLY 70'S. WE WOULD GO THERE IN MY CUZ ROBS 68 GTO ALL THE TIME. A ROAST BEEF WAS ABOUT $ 1.25 WE WOULD GET FRIES , SODA AND HANG OUT LATE GO TO CAPT WALTERS BAR AND ENJOY LIFE. WHEN I WENT ONTO THE US NAVY IN JULY 1971 WE WENT TO BRENNAN AND CARRS FOR MY LAST CIVILIAN MEAL. I MUST HAVE EATEN THREE SANDWICHES AND FRIES AND COKES GOT ON AIRPLANE 630 AM NEXT DAY AND ALL I THOUGHT ABOUT CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK TO NY ON LEAVE FOR BRENNAN AND CARRS OMG !!!!!NOW AT 68 I THINK BACK TO HOW GREAT LIFE WAS IN EAST FLATBUSH OFF GLENWOOD RD AND NOSTRAND. A GREAT BROOKLYN EASTABLISHMEN BRENNAN AND CARR AND A PART OF HISTORY TOO. BUT IM COMING BACK SOMEDAY FROM NJ AND STATEN ISLAND.

Get to Chicago for an Italian beef if you like a dipped sandwich! the best
it's 4:27AM and I'm eating a Gargiulo Burger right now along with some wings and cheese fries, the food has not changed in decades and the prices barely went up. Also you want to see two NYers get into a fight? Ask them what's better: Roll N Roaster or Brennan and Carr lol, proceed to sit back and enjoy the argument.
if you've never been there, you will not understand just how really great this place is...........small, family atmosphere, ice cold beer on tap, friendly staff and the hot beef is the best in the city.........the burgers are excellent, and, if you want fries, make sure you get them smothered with cheese. One of the only reasons I ever go back to Brooklyn anymore is to go eat there............
