    I would use this functionality to time the knocking of ball - bearings on my desk Newton's cradle. The price is vaulting the watch above Omega territory; but I can see why. Finally Breitling have created something not over groomed, a little more rugged, and with the dedication to the open backed presentation that is worth display, a watch of excellence.. In Australia my friends would say that Breitling watches were for a younger man, but as a middle aged man, I can see this watch working with the professional image I want. I am surprised the blue dial is so much cheaper as Blue is a colour that is hard to get right. Thanks Alexander.

  • @WatchAdvisor

    The price of the "black dial" is caused by the 18 carat gold case and folding-clasp versus the steel case and steel folding-claps of the "blue dial" ... so it is not the dial, but the case defining the higher price...

    Smart looking blue dial and a really cool execution. Breitling getting their act together after years of producing wrist weights for the gymnasium. Nobody will go anywhere near even a sink with a leather strap so it’s all academic regarding water resistance. Handsome pieces and beautiful movements with a rare cool complication. Looking forward to seeing these in the shops. Exciting times for Breitling, but bring back the wings and anchor. Just not the same with a singular lonely ‘B’ adorning the dial.

    Good review. In fact, I did try the blue durograph and the salmon dial full calendar chronograph at the boutique a couple of days ago. I was worried the thickness would be a big turn off given it's 15.3mm. However, once I tried in on and it didn't seem too be an issue for me. It's acceptable in my view after I tried on my wrist. It's a very sophisticated complication so the case's thickness need to be compromised a bit. At the price point, it's a great deal for a split second complication. The blue dial looks amazing when looking at the real thing.

    Breitling have introduced some very interesting new chronographs this year. Out of the two variants shown here, I actually prefer the red gold, due to the better contrast between the hands and dial. This new CEO is doing a great job so far with the brand. Just out of curiosity...these watches don’t include a separate Flyback function as well, do they? Like I believe some Lange’s do.

    Once again a great review Alexander. I love the box crystal and the case, and the rattrapante function is wonderfully executed on these watches. Ultimately for my preference if I was in the market I'd probably look at the Navitimer rattrapante options as I'm not a fan of numeral slicing by the sub dials but that's just a personal preference. The down side is the Navitimer has the off set date that would bug me somewhat. You cannot please everyone all of the time.

    I'm always amazed at how many people can't take the 4:30 date window. I have like four watches with it. I find they get the watch very close to a no date. The 4:30 window for me disappears. Way more than the 3 and 9.

  • @anthonystevens8683

    @anthonystevens8683

    @@robertsullivan4773 I completely agree a date at 4:30 is arguably much better than at 3 or 9 so not to intersect a numeral point or a sub dial. I'm ambivalent of the date complication but my preference would be at the 6 subject to the date wheel colour.. A minor gripe I guess as we all have our preferences. Thank you for your thoughts Robert.

    Hello, I have the Premier B15 Duograph 42 and was wondering can I run the stop watch function as a minute hand 24/7 ? The reason why I ask is I watched a video review of the premier B09 chronograph 40 and in the video the gentlemen said... "It is a manual wind with no date. It is a very clean dial. You note that the watch features smooth chronograph engagement thanks to the use of a vertical clutch. There's no additional wear or tear in this system so in addition to seamless jump free actuation a vertical clutch allows you to keep the chronograph running full time with no additional hazard to the watch." Is this true as no damage would be done internally if I ran my stop watch all the time? Can you help me answer that for me please. Thank you very much.

    Very good, Alexander - but watch out for those trains! I love a doppel! Maybe my favourite complication. Great to see Breitling producing these at an affordable level. Of course, a module and a little thick, but at this price... Only Habring2 was making this complication at an affordable level. To my mind, these movements raise Breitling up, perhaps starting to encroach on JLC territory (!). Interesting it marks Breitling out as a manufacturer competing at diverse 'entry luxury' and 'entry high horology' levels. I do like to see a brand innovating and producing beautiful watches at a fair price, as indeed SWATCH are. In contrast to some (ahem, Richemont...)

    James, I agree about the Habring which is half the price of this one, and seems to me a better movement, though I haven't had them both in hand to compare (yet...). See my comments on the Habring A11R vs Breitling B15 elsewhere. Of course the biggest downside of the Doppel-Felix is they're only making 20 pieces per year and there's a long waiting list, but such is the price of exclusivity. Richard Habring could probably charge 5 times the price and sell just as many watches, but he doesn't seem to be in it for the money - I even felt embarrassed paying so little for one.

    Nice dial, but way too thick. The similar Habring2 Doppel-Felix is only 13mm thick and less expensive. Please visit them when you get back to Austria.

    The split-second function is in fact a modular (patented) construction with only 28 components being placed between the main-plate and date wheel and therefore is not visible through the case-back. The base calibre is the Breitling B01 and I consider it to be superior to the ETA base caliber Habring is using... So I don't think you should compare these watches...

    @@WatchAdvisor Though the Habring A11R is based on the Valjoux 7750 it's been substantially modified over the past 10 years and now has few parts in common, plus it's significantly thinner. The chronograph operation and dial layout is entirely different to the 7750, and it's a revised and improved version of the split-seconds movement Richard Habring designed for IWC (still in use there) which sells at twice the price. Its only downside is the rather plain decoration, but as an integrated chronograph movement I believe most people would consider it superior to the modular B15, and that also explains why it's thinner. Please support your local Austrian watchmakers!

    While Habring is "pimping" an "average", mass manufactured chronograph calibre with his delicate split-second mechanism, Breitling is "downgrading" one of the very best chronograph calibres of today with a (smart) modular split-second mechanism ...

    The Breitling movement is superior: column wheel, manufactured, 70 hours of power reserve. The doppel felix is very good but its autonomy remains much lower, it uses a cam and uses a lot of parts from the 7750, the main advantage of the doppel felix is its thickness. The 7750 is a very good movement but it is still a mass-produced movement and the Breitling dial is higher by range than that of doppel felix.
