FYI some ghost hsrimps can change color of their carapcedepending on the susbtrate colors and food they get fed. I have seen clear ghost shrimp take on tan and rusty colors helping them blend into leaf litter and hide in plain sight from a figure eight puffer. sometomes they turn greenish too.

Im excited to see more ghost shrimp videos, as a kid my family vacationed at cape cod Massachusetts and we would go to the bay, walk during low tide on sand bars, and enjoy the tide slowly coming in. Well once the water was 2 feet or more we would sit on the shore in the water and feel the shrimp pelting our legs as the waves came in. Its funny cuz you feel a rapid tap tap tap tap tap and you wont see them. All you see is their shadows as they come "flying" outta no where. I went again last year for the first time in 10 years and came across a ton of babies in shells id pluck from the sand. I was so happy to see their numbers on the rise! Thank you for reminding me of that :)

Most ghost shrimp that you buy from box stores and local shops are actually brackish water shrimp. You will get some breeding but your yields won’t be very good. Just do a neocaridina set up and they will come in all kinds of bright colors. They can be expensive from stores but local breeders can offer great deals.

Good idea. Only problem is that while ghost shrimp will gladly live in freshwater, they need brackish water to actually hatch their eggs and raise the shrimplets. I’ve had many ghost shrimp with eggs but none ever hatch in freshwater.

Whatever species I've raised in the past occasionally had offspring, but they were in very small numbers. For example I might've started with 6 ghost shrimp and then eventually ended up with 8 total. I saw eggs on the females but I'm thinking most of either didn't hatch or most of the baby shrimp were eaten. Brackish would've probably yielded better results.

@@keyboardwarrior1946 Some from Petsmart and some from another pet shop. Thinking about it I'm wondering if the cherry shrimp I had at the time could've been eating the baby ghost shrimp. I assumed fish weren't a problem since the cherries multiplied like crazy for awhile. Hadn't considered the cherry shrimp might've been a problem.

I am guessing you already know this but most species of ghost shrimp will only successfully reproduce and raise shrimplets in brackish water, that said I've had the same species reproduce in freshwater but just in much smaller numbers as in like 2 to 10 versus hundreds. Good luck this setup looks simple cheap and pretty despite it being a kiddie pool. Think I might try this for myself with other species of shrimp.

Actually, if I were you, I would go for a pond with no substrate as when it comes to breeding, in my opinion is that functionality outranks appearance. To make collecting and see the baby shrimp easier. I think it’s better off to add a layer of black pond lining and add a series of pvc tubes, elbows and Ts for them to hide and that’s it. The live plants are absolutely essential for them to breed and eat so I will still add those in there but not too many. I’m not trying to criticise anything I’m just giving a suggestion of what I will do. Don’t get me wrong the pond is beautiful
