    Hey, nice video. Im breeding shrimp for over 8 years and if you don’t mind I’d like to give you a few tips. Neocaridina shrimps don’t require active substrate and they can thrive in high ph. In fact they wont be doing well in lower ph water don’t mistake them with caridina shrimp who need lower ph. You can’t keep them in pure RoDi water you have to remineralise it with special salts for neocaridina shrimp, one of the famous brand is salty shrimp just google it. Rodi filter will remove chlorine. Everything else is great 😊

    Dude, it really is the most price effective. I got a lotion/soap pump thing and one or two pumps cleans a sink load of dishes. I used to go through SO MUCH dish soap before biting the bullet and getting Dawn, and now, one small bottle lasts a month or more easy.

  • @nathankirk4742

    @nathankirk4742

    dawn isnt safer than any other soap honestly, he just rinses it out well enough that theres no residue. This is a big thing in gardening where people make dawn dish soap pesticides that are 'safe and nontoxic", but at the end of the day, its phytotoxic like every other soap on plants, and toxic to ingest for animals and insects. marketing gimmick wins again

    The carbon filter in your RO/DI system will remove the chlorine and chloramines before the it hits the membrane part. It's sediments, carbon, membrane, and then your 2 kinds of DI resin, sometimes they're mixed, but if separated you can recharge the resin media by washing the resin with acid or alkaline depending on which. But basically, you don't need a dechlorinator or heavy metal remover, and dechlorinators actually have been shown to reduce hatching rates with fish and shrimps, they make the shell too thick or something, so I would recommend against it personally.

  • @isopodmike2204
    @isopodmike22042 жыл бұрын

    RO/DI units will definitely take care of any chlorine in your tap, no need to use a de-chlorinator. Using a de-chlorinator will have no adverse effects so continue if you want, but for some reason people seem to think that RO/DI units don't remove chlorine.

    I address this in my video today. The reason I dechlorinate is that I use an RO Buddie, it reduces the chlorine to not damage the membrane in the unit but does not remove chloramine as it requires an additional filter cartridge. So I dechlorinate to specifically remove the chloramine.

    Now I could be wrong, but I think the most tricky to breed will be the blues. I've been told the Blues do better with an inert sand substrate over fluval stratum or other acidic substrates, also used to have a colony of blue velvet over sand worked well enough. Don't forget that their shells are calcium carbonate, and that they may need calcium supplements down the road especially if you end up with a large colony in a 10 gallon.

    Cool fact the more active they seem in their enclosure the less happy they are shrimp tend to stick to the ground and cover grazing constantly, your blue shrimp seem to be protesting if they had cardboard and wood they would have little picket signs too. when they swim circles around a tank thats when you should worry.

    I suggest you feed the shrimp colored food that is the same as it's color since sometimes shrimps may have a color change depending on their food. Of course, the color change won't be significant like they all become brown or green from eating fish food or algae however their colors may become less vibrant or hued.

    I wouldn't suggest using slow growing plants as they really don't add that much biofilm or remove nutrients. The moss, floaters, and hornwort are perfect for the job. Lastly, it's easier to remove the plants when catching all the shrimp with rootless plants 😉 Just keep in mind there is a balance between biofilm growing and the nutrients that fast growing plants use.

    A question for you we have 3 fish tanks an old 85gal a 65 and like a 30. My question is with live plants we always have issues with the water snails and it always seems like no matter how hard we look over plants we end up with snails do you have any recommendations for best way to pick live plants without the snails. Not much of an issue in the 85gal since the 4-8 inch Oscar eats them if they get into the tank.

I have even tested this by doing CL tests of the water coming after the prefilters and before the RO membrane.

    @More Grey search online, how to identify neocaridina female. There is a place on the hump of their back where you can see the eggs under the shell (called a saddle). Once the female molts (and is of age), she will move the eggs under her tail. If you have 1 female and 2 males, that would work great. If they aren't old enough yet, but are the right sex, they will breed eventually

    Ive always wanted a Neocaridena shrimp tank but they are expensive. Ive tried to have a tank full of them but they ALWAYS die. One time i had enough and prepped the tank for a whole month before i even got them and they still died.

    It would be cool if you sold some of your guppy’s and other stuff that you breed on your website.

    Possibly a stupid question but i gotta ask anyway.. what happens if you breed 2 different color shrimps together?

    Keep the temps lower. They are a cooler water shrimp. I recommend between 70-74 degrees Fahrenheit. Warmer temps will shorten thier lifespan.

    So true. The recommendation in this video is the best way to kill a colony of shrimp with bacteria infections. Colder is always better with shrimp.

    Shrimps need minerals, you can't add shrimp in pure RO water, it's not gonna be long before they die due to failed molt. You need to get a GH and KH remineralizer ie salty shrimp GH/KH+. Also the problem with using active substrate it's gonna remove KH, active substrate should be used only to keep caridinas.

    The plastic the storage bins are made of is not meant to be put outside exposed to the weather. I had some left outside, and they eventually crumble apart.

    Neocaridina shrimp dont require low ph levels so active substrate if you dont even plant any carpet on it it is pountless and you might come at problems with breeding and deaths
