This game...sigh I dont know what to say,it will follow my heart for the rest of my life.There cant be another RPG game that bring alot of memories to me like this one,because there cant be another childhood.

Ahhhhh, the memories :) To me, Breath of Fire 1, 2, 3 and 4 were all magical. Capcom sure nailed the RPG concept on those games :D Still up to this day, they remain in my "all-time favorites". (as enjoyable as Final Fantasy 7, storywise)

+Frozi Best mini game ever: FISHING Not the best story overall for me but the Mami + Fou-Lu story is beautiful. She taught him to value humanity in the short time they spent together.

Love it. My girlfriend and I are actually working on a complete voice-over of the entire ending. We've already done the first part, and it's on my channel.

What makes this really special is that the main "villain" is not entirely evil, benevolent even. Fou-Lu was disappointed in mortals fighting and killing each other, and he would "save" the world by destroying all mortals. Yet he still saw a glimpse of kindness in Mami that wavered his resolve to destroy the world and instead sent the gods back to their realm instead. What a guy.

Myria wasn’t evil either, she just wanted to protect the world from what she viewed as a destructive power. The only true evil in this game was Yuna, and he survived…

In the manga, instead of just absorving Fou-lu, Ryu turns both of them into mortals. That means Fou lu would eventually die and encounter with Mami.

Love this game! This is one of my favorite games of all time. I still have it and I played it recently.

the best part in this game is fou- lu with mami. the sound effect was awsome! especially when they're in dreams.

I always felt the deeper message to this game was the mortal attachment to deities and entities greater than themselves. When humans can finally give this up maybe then they will finally begin to evolve and truly live. I think that's what Ryu was trying to say when he made the Endless mortal and included himself in that process. Life has value because it is finite, and there's less fighting over power when there's no power to be had.

This is the best rpg ive ever played . . . it still stays so close to my heart . . . and has one of the best damn endings . . . but i wish fou lu had been with mami though . . . and regardless of all the glitches and a sad ending this game rules !!!

I was sad enough to get to lvl 70-ish on this with all my characters :( but i really really really enjoyed it at the time. Oh i miss you BoF4 x

I think Breath of Fire 2 Storyline is better, But the characters in BOF 4 are remarkable

Yeah I wish they had done more with the story and gameplay. There never seems to be a challenging boss, and the story just seems like an elongated fetch quest that has too many mini-games.

For me, Yuna is one of videogames greatest villains. He's a sneak, kidnaps your sister, gets you court-prosecuted in your own country, rips your sister apart and fills her with animal guts and machinery, transforming her into a weapon which he then uses to decimate her own country, laughs about it, tricks the Emperor into getting killed by Fou-Lu, tortures and kills Fou-Lu's girlfriend then fires her tortured remains at him, and to top it all off, gets away with it.

Yuna is the Hojo of Breath Of Fire IV (Hojo is a mad scientist in Final Fantasy VII that eventually injects himself with Jenova cells and eventually becomes Jenova Synthesis.

hey, I remember when I played this, the true ending is Ryu and Fou-lu both disappear, and after the credit ... they're wearing hoodie and coming back. But I can't find that ending anywhere, it's just like ... I am the only one who can see that ending.

Holy shit, Ryu TALKED?!! I never beat this game. I got all the way to the showdown with Fou-lu and got stuck. Thanks a lot man, it was an awesome game. What the series always should have been.

this is an amazing rpg...ive played bof3 before and it just has sad endings and just cause its old dosent mean it has any meaning to it it has emotions at some times but thats what makes the game so important and fun...the battling....the recruiting....everything.........

It's a shame that bof ended as it did. The games were great we won't see another dragon quarter was the last. And DQ ending sets the entire series into an infinite loop.

I wish they would have put an actually difficult boss in the game. It feels anticlimactic after going on this gigantic fetch quest to see Fou-lou only to have one difficult boss in the entire game (not that Fou-lou's that hard).

wow its been so long. i remember playing this game on my black and white tv during school days. sleeping at 2 - 3 am due to excessive bof4 playing. aha good times =)

This game deserve a remake

Played only part 2 and the game was just so nostalgic, that i played it twice to the part where you get Ryu's berserker dragon form ( forgot its name since it was so long ago ) and this game is just massive, hours of gameplay,. Best. Game. Ever. ( hope part 5 comes out )

This game is the best game that i have ever played in my whole entire life..!!! Infact, this was the 1st RPG i have ever played in the PS1...!! I just love this game..!!

The ending has a touch of hope for the future, but I found it really sad because the manifested dragon-spirits disappeared or becam mortal humans; and Deiz(Diaz/Daiz?) a beautiful sorceress of BoF legend is confined to a clunky iron robotic suit.

If you get the other ending, when Ryu doubts humanity, Fou-Lou becomes the dominant personality and decides that humanity is worthless. Then, he kills all of your party members and leaves to destroy humanity. I loved this game so much. Even to this day, Breath of Fire IV is one of my favorite games. Lol, and I bought it for its cover art at a sale.

It's always haunted me.. is this REALLY the best ending of the game? Ryu dispels the Endless.. but that Council fellow still brags he can summon as many Gods as they want or need. With Ryu now powerless, the summoner is going to take over! I heard somewhere there's a better ending, where if you learn to control Kaiser (requiring you to visit ALL of the hidden dragons), and use him against Fou-Lou at the very beginning of the battle before White Out, that you get to fight the summoner instead?

ONE OF MY FAV RPGS I'VE EVER PLAYED :) great game.

I've been looking for it so much, and i cant find it. I know you can still play after you beat it, if it offers you to save. Then you can go somewhere and find Rei and Teepo as shop owners. They sell you a rusty sword, wich is crap until you get 100 kills. Is this after the game or near the end?

There's no voice in the dialogue, and but the words can capture their feelings. Props to the writer though, I seriously very touched by the plot. There's romance, grief, vengeance, and joy. Moreover, the gameplay is hella good too. Some game suffers for having good story but with a shitty gameplay, they focused too much on the story. Bof 4 managed to fullfill both, thus, I think this game is a masterpiece. Everytime I played, it as if I was pulled to the game world, and forget reality for awhile, signs of a good game.

The end is determindes by: - the choices you made while talking with fou-lou - whether you win/llose the fights - and to get this ending there are some thign you must have done while playing the game ^^

As far as I've seen, all Breath of Fire games have a Bad ending, a Good ending, and sometimes a BEST ending that's hard to achieve, BoF2 being the best case. In BoF4 the bad ending has Fou-Lu take control and force Ryu-dragon to kill his friends, while the "Good" ending has Ryu win, banish all the Gods while Yuna, the summoner who caused all this strife in the first place, looks on, boasting he can summon any number of new Gods anyways. I heard a rumor though, that if Ryu finds all of the other dragons, uses their power to finally gain full control over his Kaiser form, and then uses Kaiser against Fou-Lu at the very start of the fight (which is clearly a scripted battle waiting for you to DO something..) Fou-Lu is defeated quickly, and YUNA shows up, letting you finally defeat him once and for all. Does anyone know anything about this?

You got the good and bad endings mixed up, but yeah that's what makes BoF games great. I just wish BoF 4 had a better story and ending.

@darkgryffon Well, Breath Of Fire 4 was supposed to be the prequel to Breath Of Fire 1, 2 and 3 so naturally their world needs to be sort of screwed up. All the Dragon gods get co-opted into Ladon(the Dragon God in 1-3)

I think this is the ending I got. It's been so long since I beat the game. My favorite of the series that I've played.

I finally saw the ending of BOF4 and BOF5. I couldn't beat the final bosses in either game, and after so many years, I realized that I can see the endings here on you tube :D All in all, BOF4 was the best damn RPG I had ever played, alongside Chrono Cross, Alundra 2, and FFVII

you see that ending left so much room for a sequal... so why was V so different?

This one has a "true" final boss, a longer ending scene, and the Cleared Game save. Although that doesn't mean this is the "better" one =/

@darkgryffon In BoF1 and BoF2 there were 2 different Ryus, Ladon and Ryu. The "Ryu" in BoF3 could be Ladon himself or an incarnation of him.

Not really true as Ladon is translated to Dragon god in the Japanese script. In the first one there was already a Dragon god so the first one wouldn't be Ladon. If BoF 4 was a prequel and they were gods then that Ryu might fit the bill.

@darkgryffon Dragon brood stay alive for a very very long time. Ryu in IV sort of just became immortal after a long while or maybe he died, ascended to godhood and became Ladon, but only after being the ancestor for pretty much the entire brood.

But the thing is that you barely need to transform at all. The only boss fight I really needed to transform was the second battle vs. Bosch.

lol lvl 30 characters. i'm surprised you got thru the monsters on the way to him. they are extremely hard for lvl 30's. btw, is it better to have cray train under more wisdom and AP, or str and defense?

o yea, that part was the saddest part of the game. this game is super long too, kept me going for about the whole summer...unless im just slow and stuff. but this game is very interesting, if only they could talk...that would rock even more.

Fuck fuck fuck. This is the first and the best rpg game I ever played. I remember training like crazy. Ryu was at lvl 40 when i faced Fou lou. most of my friends had him at 33. The game took my breath away. It was a memorable way to spend my june holidays. I was hooked, playing from 7 am to 10pm. Ming you those was the days I occupied the TV and nothing could do my obession.

LIke I said in the other video, there is a manga of this game and you guys should rly look for it!! Tottaly worthy =) ------------ SPOILER -------------------- .......... In the manga, there is a different ending! I wont teel u guys what happens cuz ofc someone will read this and will start to enrage. But the only thing that i'll tell u guys is that the both ending "merge". Good reading :)

There are 2 endings to this actually. This is what happens when you defeat Fou lu with the party. If you choose to join up with Fou lu, you get to fight Nina and the rest and when you defeat the gang, it would result in a game over.

Every BoF Ryu is different, not sure about the timeline between 1 and 4 though.

How to achieve this ending?
